Snow wafted from his nostrils, a deep inhale of breath cooled his lungs as alert eyes watched the prancing deer in the distance --oblivious of the carnivore that had stalked them to this very spot. He was alone, advising his young son to linger behind in case he needed the extra backup but something told him that perhaps he'd be okay handling this deer alone; sick and fragile, it would be the perfect picking. He hesitated a moment, waiting for the perfect moment since he was alone and timing was everything and when he figured that there was no time like the present he felt the snow crunch beneath his feet and wind propelled his thick body forward. He wasn't necessarily fast but he relied on his tactics which had allowed him to hunt successfully all this while, he figured today would be no different. Within minutes, he realized the errors of his ways and watched as the deer pranced off faster in the distance, lengthening the gap between them until finally all he could hear was the silence of his defeat. It had been weeks since their last meal and he was getting desperate.

Panting heavily but hardly letting on his disappointment, he returned back to his son with a scowl and nipped at his wispy fur by means of comfort. He couldn't remember the Lore being this barren, something was definitely off about this part of the land and within time he would realize that many of the previous packs had departed and probably for good reason. "We need to keep moving." he spoke to his son, nudging him softly for reassurance and a reminder of his strength before taking the lead and waltzing toward no where in particular. His only goal at this moment was to seek out a pack, gain information and eat, they really needed to eat. where is everyone... he thought to himself, concerned that perhaps wolves of his past had all moved on but a part of him wouldn't believe it just yet. He was certain someone else remained...
