@Kagehide save my dumb son. he ate some Inocybe lanuginosa

Well, Mako didn't know enough to say that this wasn't going how it should. But the boy could very well tell when things were going bad. It all began with an awful churning in his stomach, the cramping hitting him like a knife twisting in his guts. He had expected something different, something enlightening. Sure, he hadn't paid terribly close attention when his elders murmured of a little brown-capped mushroom that let you speak with the gods. After all, one little brown mushroom was the same as any other, right?

There was nothing wrong with wanting to see the otherworldly being that was apparently his sire, was there? He had thought about it for a while, and couldn't believe his luck when he found the small cluster of light-brown caps set among some grass and leaf-litter, the snow melted in a small circle where the mountain's molten core heated the surface just enough to allow the fungus to flourish even in the dead of winter.

So down the hatch they went, and Mako cursed his luck and his existence and the damned mountain and everything else on it as he staggered forward just an hour later. The ground swung unsteadily back and forth in a blur, his eyes unfocused and damp as trails of dark tears curved down the sides of his muzzle. The elders had never spoken of the excruciating and infinite pain of his stomach clenching around the damned mushrooms. Saliva flooded his mouth, spilling out at the edges in long strings and Mako just wished the burning in his gut would stop. He retched, finally bile and chewed mushrooms plopping onto the ground before him. He would have thought that would have freed him from this torment -- this hell on earth, really -- but the poison had already taken its hold. He took a few unsteady steps over the pile of sick before his body unceremoniously decided that he needed to be ejecting material from both ends. At once.

Oh, what now? The poison master was grouchy as hell. He was sick of snow. And yet, the farther he traveled from Morganna, the more of the shit there seemed to be. Spring couldn't get here soon enough. Most of the plants and herbs around here were either dead or buried under too many damn layers of this cold ass shit. He was sick of it. Truthfully, it made him almost miss his own home where snow wasn't as frequent a visitor and certainly not in drifts like this.

The silver male scowled down at the wolf currently attempting to drown himself in his own vomit while he practically geysered his foul shit from the other end. Honestly, the shit bothered him less than the snow. As an herbalist, he had a steady stomach and was well used to seeing all sorts of things. After all, as an apprentice, it had been his duty to basically wipe the ass of one of the elders who was getting too senile to do it himself. Why such a duty had fallen to a healer, he would never understand, but it had. And he'd done it.

Kage grumbled and cursed under his breath before trudging closer to the male. A pile of sick at his paws was systematically observed. He could see remnants of a chewed up shroom and rolled his eyes. Idiot. Who would willingly eat such a toxic mushroom? Or why even eat a shroom in the first place when it took an experienced eye to discern the difference between them? Apparently his parents failed in the 'don't eat dumb shit' category or he just was a dumb shit who opted not to listen to them.

Kage wanted to tell himself to just leave him - it wasn't his business, not his packmate. But damn it all, he couldn't just walk away. Irritated, the herbalist grabbed the youth by the scruff and dragged him none too gently away from the mess he'd made into a clear part of snow. Unluckily for the boy, he'd keep having those signs until the toxin left his system. There was no magic brew he could give him for it. Were he still near that burned forest, he could bring some of the char and make him eat that to help absorb the toxins, but by the time he reached it there, the kid could be dead.

Idiot, he thought again with annoyance.

It didn't help any that Kagehide knew nothing of the terrain. Forced to rely on his nose, the male grumpily trotted around to snuffle at the edges of the pass where snow didn't lay so heavy. Even some yarrow would be helpful at this point, but he didn't imagine it would be growing in this area. Damn it all, maybe he should run back for some of the charcoal. No. Too far, unless the kid could walk and even then. He certainly wasn't dragging his ass. Lavaging his stomach would be the next best thing, but if the kid kept vomiting like that, he was just as likely to aspirate. Kage also wasn't sure how far away the nearest river was.

His dark amber eyes fell again to the snow. Well, it was good for one thing.

The male kicked a pile in front of the yearling's mouth before roughly dragging him into a sternal position. "Eat the snow," he demanded of the ill wolf. "Eat it!" he snapped impatiently, giving his scruff a shake. "Unless you wanna die like this? Pretty fucking embarrassing, you ask me."

Mako Coho
@Kagehide

Somewhere at the vague periphery of his senses, Mako was aware that someone else had approached him. Between bouts of heaving his guts out he had a moment to catch his breath, and through watering eyes saw the grey and indistinct shape of another wolf suddenly materialize at his side, firmly grasping him by the loose hide of his nape and dragging him... somewhere. Mako whined and twisted uselessly against the grip on his neck. Luckily this other wolf didn't have any ill intentions, for he had little means to defend himself at the moment.

But that fact eluded the Coho boy for the moment, given his 'savior' spoke not a single word until he was shoved around some more and commanded to eat the snow. Mako choked back another fresh wave of nausea, still trying to figure out exactly who the hell this was. He tried to level a churlish glare at the other wolf, but really only succeeded in directing a blurry-eyed stare in the healer's direction. Well, if this wolf wanted to kill him, he had plenty opportunity to do it already.

His head was pounding, and pounding even more with an ice headache once he shoved his face into the snow and swallowed down a mouthful of the cold substance. No, he didn't want to die, but as far as embarrassment, Mako was pretty sure he'd already hit the quota for that after voiding his brains out in front of a stranger. "Too... late for- for that," He managed to gurgle between bites of snow.

Good. Embarrassment was a good teacher. So was a painful belly. Even long after one may forget such a situation, the taste buds did not. Kage doubted the idiot would ever try to down a cap again, whether it was determined to be safe or not. "Remember that next time you try to eat a shroom, ya moron," the herbalist snapped, adding insult to injury. At least the boy was doing as he was told. That was a small blessing. The healer couldn't do much more than try to help him dilute out the toxin. Hopefully the cold would settle his belly some, too.

He pressed his nose to the Coho boy's forehead, testing his temperature. It didn't feel dangerously feverish, which was a good sign. Perhaps the cold was helpful for something after all. Though, without the snow present, Kage bet he could have provided a more ample treatment to the wolf's ailment.

"What's your name, boy?" he asked. If he was eating and talking, he wasn't going unconscious. Though, Kage bet he probably wanted to be at this rate. "That way I can tell your family if you don't make it." The last bit was a jest, but he still said it with the same dry, snapping tone so it was hard to tell.

@Kagehide

Maybe another time, Mako would have risen to the jabs and spat back some of his own. As it was, he wasn't enough of a moron to piss off the wolf who had deigned to help him. Mako spared a glance upwards towards the stranger, immediately regretting it as the world spun from the sudden motion. Mako stiffened, biting his tongue to hold back another tide of nausea before deigning to open his mouth to speak once his stomach had settled down enough.

"Mako, Mako Coho." He managed to pant out. He felt a pang of guilt at the mention of family. He realized how easily his stupid mistake could have killed him, and how his family would have almost certainly never found out, being hundreds if not thousands of miles away at this point.

If he were lucky -- with a very, very loose definition of the word luck -- the wolves of Driftwood Surge would maybe, eventually, learn of his death by mushroom up here on a damned mountain. But that wasn't really a comforting thought either, poor Risaela would be absolutely heartbroken if he died. Mako groaned, saliva still trailing from the corners of his mouth. He'd make it through this, there was no other way about it.

"I can't die here, I'll make it." He tried to fix his unfocused gaze on the healer, but he was seeing double and really only managed to glare somewhere past the smaller wolf's shoulder.
