How lovely are the portals of the night
When stars come out to watch the daylight die

Seeing Aleister had been the biggest shock of her life, but also the happiest she had felt in a few weeks. The absolute, soul lightening relief she felt to know that he was alive and well could not be explained properly in words. She felt like she was floating, positively on cloud nine even if she looked like she was on death’s door. And, that Neha was with him? Well, that also took a weight off her shoulders. She didn’t know if they planned on joining the Cove at any point soon, but to know that they had each other made her feel more confident that they would both be okay. They had their paths to take and even though they had been born with the assumption that they would one day rule the Cove, their Macieo blood still seemed to ensure that they would need to wander some more to truly find their place. And she was okay with that, as long as they were happy.

She laid at the lip of the den, head resting on her paws as she stared out across the white world. She could smell the strong scent of heat from the females permeating the air and it was strange for her to know that she was not going through it herself and the reason not being that she was pregnant. It was perhaps just another thing to remind her of the limited time she had left in the world and in her body. Her nose twitched, naturally taking in the scents around her.

She paused.

A scent crossed her, a feeling of recognition sweeping over her and she lifted her head gingerly. Confusion swept across her expression. But...it couldn’t be him? Why would Nathaniel be anywhere around the Cove, after the way that he’d left them? She didn’t bear any malice, not anymore. She knew where his mind had been and even if his intents may have been true she still did not believe that the Coldheart was what his last name called of him. At one point she might have gotten up and gone to make sure he didn’t cross the borders because, after all, he had chosen to leave them. But now she was only left with curiosity and confusion.

It took a lot these days to get her up and out of the den, but to her this certainly felt deserving. She moved herself to her paws with a grunt, wincing at the pain in her boney joints as they tried to support her weight no matter how meager it was now. The former queen moved toward the borders, taking so much time to finally get past them that she was sure that if he had been there at all he would be gone. Her mismatched gaze searched for the Knight’s frame, wondering if she had just imagined the scent.
