you can reach for the moon

Well the rains had come and gone... The silver wolf had gathered herself within the hollowed trunk of a large tree. It had given way to a great temporary shelter, at least until the winds had ceased. From then, she's carried on for a few days until her paws finally sought softer, more luscious land. Whereas the land she'd crossed before was thick with tall grasses and scarce brush, here, where she now rested smelt fresh and full of life. What she had previously thought was a pack nearby had been a bust, although the territories she'd traveled through smelt of many, she had only seen a scarce few. Perhaps there was a pack nearby and she'd just smelt it from miles away due to the large gusts of wind of which came with the rains. There was a good chance she had smelt them from so far away. She brushed it off.

It was interesting here, there were softer grasses that would almost squish beneath her paw pads, surrounding each toe with a wetness she did not particularly agree with. They were carrying her towards a mirroring lake which shimmered with the colors the sky gave way to.
"What a sight." she relished for just a moments passing. The sounds which came from her maw seemed odd, unfamiliar to her. Perhaps she had gone hoarse from what little contact she'd had. A drink from the lake would do some good!

Pads shifted beneath the wet grasses and muds until she was close enough to the water, where she could see her reflection within it. As she lowered her maw towards the water's edge, she watched herself through the reflection. My had she grown. It startled her at first and she blinked her stale eyes away, focusing on the water she now lapped up.

Elias was out and about again, limping along the shore with his gaze set on the horizon. It was awfully pretty out here, he found he preferred the wide expanse of the lake over the stony corridors of the Keep. The other's seemed to like their new home so it wasn't an issue, nor had he ever voiced his opinions but... He plodded to a stop and shook out his thinning coat, the weather was getting warmer and warmer by the day. Aside from the sporadic shower or two it truly felt as though summer was underway.

He always seemed to meet strangers here, and honestly that wasn't a bad thing in his eyes. Elias was social, the way he saw it the more friends he had the merrier. He'd been awfully lonely as a well...loner, he couldn't help but wonder if the pale stranger wanted some company, even if only for a little while.

"Isn't it?" Elias couldn't help but agree, he truly did love it there.

The liquid she lapped up soothed her throat instantly. It was refreshing and quenched every muscle in her body. Every day, every hour, every minute she walked seemed like a small step in a big adventure for her. Nevertheless, she was lonely. Like most wolves, she enjoyed the company of others, she thrives on it. Without the companionship of someone and the growing coyote community, large game had been scarce. Although she ate as many small rodents as she could, along with the occasional hare which kept her bones from going dry and her muscles from going weak, big game would be a feat to take on alone. Surely someone around here knew of a secret spot or something.

Through her gulping she had hardly heard the lyrics of another. "Isn't it?" his words had startled her insides, hackles rising in response, nostrils filling with water before she let out a large huff to clear the passageway. It burned her nose. How long had he been there?! "You're slacking, girl!" the words echoed as she cleared her throat, beads continuing to drip from her maw, a cheeky grin forming on her face as the embarrassing act sank in.
"Yea, I haven't seen many places like this before." she said with a slight chuckle. Steel gaze met his as she observed him. He was...golden!

As she made observations her stomach rumbled softly. She made a charcoal-crusted ear twitch as a distraction. How humiliating.. "Is there... a lot to eat around here?" she asked delicately, hoping he hadn't heard her stomach. Just some light conversation.

Elia's ears flicked back as an equally sheepish smile graced his handsome face. It wasn't easy for him to sneak up on other's, being the limpy-man that he was. Nonetheless he felt compelled to apologise, to make amends in any way that he could. Before he could even get the s-word out the stranger continued and-maybe it would be best to brush it aside as though it had never happened. Less awkward that way, for both of them. Probably.

His pale gaze roamed their scenery once more, there was much green and blue, it was almost a little overwhelming in it's splendor. Yet he had no complaints, a bit of awe every now and then truly put things into perspective, reminded him how small he truly was.

"You can check if off your list, seen a really cool lake. Done."

The stranger then continued and asked a question that he wasn't sure if he could answer. He wanted to help, truly but...with all the coyotes about it wasn't as if the land was teaming with edibles.

"I wouldn't say... a lot." Especially with the fact that two packs practically shared hunting grounds...not a lot to go around at all..."But...can you fish? I'm sure it's worth a shot, right?"

The confrontation seemed...peaceful so far between the golden wolf and herself. It wasn't very shocking to her seeing as she usually got along well with everyone she met. At least everyone so far.. Sometimes it took her a bit of confusing fronts before she decided whether or not the acquaintanceship would continue. In this case, it seemed likely.

A very small, light chuckle escaped her maw.
"I guess so!" she replied to his remark in a grateful tone. He had made her visit so far, worth while. That is, until he told her there wasn't much food around. Gray optics shifted away from him in a perturbed manner. She was thinking. "Well, that's unfortunate.." she said in a somber mood. The corner of her maw pressed into her cheek in a "What can ya do?" kinda way.

"FISH?!" she perked up instantly, her tail breezing happily by her flanks. How hadn't she thought of fish!? They weren't her preferred source of food, but a delicious and fun one at least! "Oh can I?! You're looking at the world's best fish catcher around!" she said smugly, a smirkish grin challenging him to a competition.

Elias couldn't help but laugh at her bold claim. Not because he didn't believe her, rather he wanted to see it for himself, to see how fishing was truly done. Elias had never really learned, he knew the basics but was that enough to get the job done? He certainly hoped so.

"Well, I'm glad I'm in such good company!" He beamed, all toothy and earnest. "Let's see what we can catch."

Limping to the edge of the water, Elias peered down at his reflection. Just because he couldn't see any fish didn't mean there weren't any in the water, maybe he had to look a little harder. Squinting in concentration, Elias spared a quick glance to his side. Maybe he could learn how it was done from watching her. He waded into the water till it was up to his knees, it was cool and refreshing, a nice reprieve from the summer heat; but more importantly, he figured it would be easier to catch fish this way.

His comment was flattering, an optimistic response for such an arbitrary occasion. It was the first time she had ever considered that she may actually be "good company"... but rather than dwelling on the past for a moment, she focused on the task at hand. Fishing!

"Alright!" she barked, her excitement and anxiety flowing through her like a river. She was ready for this, ready for some delicious food."Wait here." she whispered lowly as her paws dipped into the cool water. Grey optics shifting over from the water below to her newfound fishing pal. "I'm going to go this way and lead them towards the shallows. When they come near you, try to grab one and fling it as far onto the shore as you can." That's the easy way, though she'd only seen it work on smaller, lighter fish.

Observations told her the  lake was fairly shallow along the banks and lead a few lengths into the middle of the lake before the ground dropped off into deeper, darker waters. This was an ideal fishing location."If its a big one, get a kill bite in and I'll help you carry it onto the bank. It's gonna flail, so you have to try and keep it still." That involved a lot of strength. With a swift nod, she was on her way, beginning her hunt. Pads walked along the bank until she found enough shallow water that would give her the space to chase the fish towards her comrade. She stood still for a moment, watching the wiggling fish wander along the bottom.

Harks perked, everything was silent for a moment. She sprang forward, her feet torpedoing her through the still water. The fish had her zigging and zagging, keeping her on her toes. She was agile and expectant of their next maneuver, she was flanking them, but they were faster than her and definitely had the advantage. She was quickly heading towards her comrade, little beads of splashed water traveling large distances as she flung herself about the water chasing the finny prey. She could see a few fish ahead of the one she was chasing, her voracity was beginning to overwhelm her. She had to keep them together, and he just needed to nab one.

pssst, i think you might have an open tag somewhere, the text on the page has changed to your table text?

Oh yep, she certainly seemed to know what she was doing. As she explained their plan of attack Elias' ears flitted forward as he listened intently. So she would be the driving force and Elias would catch whatever came his way? He figured he could do that, it seemed easy enough but...what if he failed? Not only would it be awfully embarrassing but the stranger seemed to be hungry, the thought of denying her a meal made his throat tighten.

It was okay! He could do this! He had to do this!

Elias pulled in a deep breath as the woman got into position and- the game was on. She moved fast, quicker than she had any right to. It was almost as though she belonged in the water, splishing and splashing yet somehow managing to move with an elegance Elias could only dream of. She charged on, driving a collection of fish towards the shore, ever closer to Elias' waiting jaws.

He could see the grey shapes weaving and twisting beneath the waters surface. Just a little closer- now! Elias lunged forward, his jaws parting as she snapped at the water. Nothing, he'd missed! With a grunt of frustration he dodged to the side and snapped again, this time he felt his bite connect and as he bit down he felt the taste of blood swamp his mouth. He went cross eyed, trying to figure out how large the fish was and- oh it was a biggun!

What had she said to do next? Uhhh.

It was as though she was within a trance -her determination was fierce as she chased and guided the fish towards her new comrade's eager jaws. The chase was beginning to take a toll on her low energy levels, she could feel herself fading with every jerking motion the fish fought her with. A swift gaze at her comrade reassured her. He was in position, ready for the catch. There was a glint however, perhaps a suspicious glint, or maybe a hesitant one. What's that?..." she thought to herslf. It was as though he was second guessing... but his posture was so, smooth! A small splash in the water brought her back to their mission. One had gotten away, a medium-sized one. That would've been a decent meal... As she came to, she focused even more on her task at hand. The space between them shortened, and right where the lake had created a small pool along the shoreline, she dipped her nose into the water and accelerated. The water splashing up into her eyes caused her vision to blurr. She closed her eyes, leaving it all up to her compadre now. "He better catch something" her stomach growled.

There was a swift splash and everything went silent- she was frozen.

The metallic scent of blood filled the moist air around them. Corona opened her eyes to see her friend looming over her head with a large whitefish flapping about in his mouth. He was holding that thing tight in his jaws. If he had bitten down a mere second after, that fish would be her nose right now. The thought made her nose wrinkle. But he needed her help! Quickly her fangs met the flesh of the whitefish, slowly it's fight began to weaken. One paw lifted and she took a step towards the land, holding the fish steady - as well as she could- high above her chest. She needed to wait until he matched her footing before continuing. Once away from the water she loosened the fish in her mouth.
"It's a whitefish!" she exclaimed, taking a few eager steps in front of her, tail wagging softly behind her, maw salivating.

She was proud of their catch.
