Random Event: A recent heat wave has left the forest drier than usual. || For @Phoenix  - thread title credit to Sarah xD

Sphinx definitely had not missed the heat that came with this time of year and surely not the sheer scorching temperatures it seemed to reach this year in comparison to the summer of her first. Let alone the lack of proper places for a dark coated wolf such as herself to escape the blistering rays of sun that were so fierce and unrelenting in their plot of igniting the stalks of wild rye in Satan's honor. Even the large; or so it seemed to be large through the eyes of her puppy self, lone tree in her parent's territory fell short at shielding anyone with adequate shade. This just would not do for the Avalon girl. Not today, Satan.

The looming tree line of the forest and the abundant shade it seemed to possess called out to the speckled lady like a siren's melodic song used to lure in unsuspecting sailors. She didn't resist the pull, allowing her paws to guide her through the exposed open land of the golden sea, salmon tongue panting heavily beneath the sun that rapidly warmed her dark coat. Roasting the poor girl like a pig on a spit. Sphinx thought about making a bolt for the shade to reach it faster, but that had her internally groaning at the idea of expending more energy than she currently had. Walking was quite the chore in itself.

But walking she did and continued to do long past the initial moment her paws stepped onto the cooler soil of the shaded forest. There was no relief here either. If anything the air felt more dry within the confines of the forest than it did out in the open. This time a verbal groan fell past her lips, tail flicking at her backside in agitation. Steps turned into stomps and feet turned into miles as Sphinx marched onward in her dismay, the further she ventured into the trees only revealing the same result. It was hot as hell everywhere. Even the trees were refusing to stay standing now, slumped over in defeat like fallen soldiers. May their wooden souls rest in peace.

Exhausted and dehydrated, the speckled girl paused in her aimless wandering. Her body pressed against the trunk of a fallen timber as she too began to sink to the ground, her sides heaving to try and cool her overheated body. A salmon tongue dripping saliva that frothed before it could truly leave her mouth as it lolled between parted jaws So this was it. This was how the young Avalon was going to go out. Death by heat stroke. Great.
