RE: A recent heat wave has left the forest drier than usual.
@Kip but AW to anyone for now

Fuck it, the rogue thought as he recklessly passed through the borders without notifying anyone and without a travel buddy to beat. Screw the coyotes, if they wanted to mess with him right now, let them try. The Vuesain was in a mood and just needed to get out, to keep his paws moving so he could stop thinking. He hated being in the same place for too long which was the reason the male could never commit. Settling made him think. Thinking reminded him of just how shitty of a wolf he was. Of how he wanted to leave the Keep and go out on his own again. Then that made his sister come back into his whirlwind thoughts

The younger Vuesain couldn't leave her again, he didn't think he could live with the guilt that would infect him. However, leaving for a day or so wouldn't hurt. It would benefit the Keep in the long run, allowing the male to release the stress that built up in his bones. However, the unrelenting heat weighed him down as he traveled through the Fjord, making the Keep wolf seek the nearest water source unaware of any who had already found it.

Aida had journeyed eastward, away from the sea which licked at the salt-covered rocks, and towards the dark forests beyond. As she travelled, each day that passed seemed hotter than the last. With no coastal breeze to whip through her fur and keep her cool, the female found herself sweltering beneath her dark brown pelt. The dappled shade provided by the alpine trees offered the female little respite from the scorching midday sun; even the fallen leaves beneath her paws had curled up and shrivelled in the heat. What she, and the forest, needed was water. Luckily for Aida, she had spotted the familiar glistening of moving water further down the ravine, and was now clambering her way down towards it.

The wind seemed to push her from behind, forcing the female to lean back as she carefully slid and scrambled her way down the last few yards of stony rubble towards the river bank. She paused at the edge of the flowing water and slowly dipped her head, taking a moment to quench her thirst before she lifted her head again to glance around. Amber eyes widened in surprise as she spotted another figure further upstream. Cautious of the stranger, her gaze narrowed on them as she proceeded to sniff at the air.

Picking his steps carefully, the rogue flirted around the slick boulders that lined the ravine as he traversed closer to the fresh stream. The partial shade wasn't enough to cool the Vuesain, but as soon as his lips felt the cool, bubbling creek water, his insides didn't feel like they were at boiling point anymore. Quenching his thirst, Aleister heard the approach downstream, but didn't bother to give them his full attention just yet. They were given a side-eyed glance, however, as he finished drinking his fill.

The dark coated female stood a distance from him, simply sniffing his direction. Raising his agouti head from the water's surface, his mismatched gaze turned to hers. However, Aleister didn't just spot the female. Those pesky bastards were hanging around, following the female, probably planning on attacking her once they drew closer. The ravine was the perfect place for them to attack, but Aleister was in a mood today. Perhaps any other day, the rogue would have turned and saved his own skin. They weren't following him, however, today the Keep male wanted to sink his teeth into something. Pent up frustration was the prime antagonist as he bared his teeth towards the vermin

Behind you! The rogue barked at the female as he trotted towards her side, his narrowed gaze glued to the two coyotes yards behind the dark cloaked woman.

Strange. The scent that reached her nose wasn’t that of the wolf she now stared at, but of coyotes.

Their foul stench caused her gaze to falter from the bi-coloured stare of the stranger, turning instead to glance quickly about her in search of the smaller canines. However, glimpsing the flash of the male’s fangs out of the corner of her eye, her focus almost immediately returned to the other wolf and her dark ears pinned back against her head defensively. Aida’s body stiffened, having misread the stranger’s intentions, her muscles tensed beneath her dark brown pelt as she stepped forward to square up to him at a distance.

The bridge of her muzzle wrinkled and her tail lifted to curl aggressively above her back. A low threatening growl began to rumble up from her throat…

However, her display was interrupted when he suddenly barked out at her, warning her of the danger that now lurked in the trees behind her. Swiftly Aida spun around, her pale paws crossing over quickly as she turned her back towards the male and moved to face the two smaller coyotes who had made an attempt to sneak up on her. The female resumed her aggressive posture, this time even going as far as to bare her teeth towards the vermin.

She side-eyed the dark agouti wolf — her new ally — as he slid up alongside her before focusing back on the coyotes. A loud snap of her jaws was enough to show the pair that she wasn’t planning on backing down without a fight.

Before he charged toward the fry, while his attention was directed towards the coyotes out of the of his eye, the loner defensibly squared up in his direction. His gaze flickered momentarily to catch hers before he yelled his warning. She must of thought he was growling at her, he supposed he couldn't blamed her. As soon as he did warn her, she realized why he suddenly grew aggressive as she too saw the vermin lurking in the shadows of the tree line.

As he approached her side, he snarled at the one furthest to the left of them, his mismatched eyes pinned upon his opponent. Agouti form launching from the water's edge, water spraying behind him as he charged towards the coyote he was eyeing. Bodies clashing violently as the male coyote didn't back down from the Keep wolf, his own foolish confidence surging. Aleister wasn't sure whether or not the female would partake in the fight, frankly the rogue didn't care. He needed to sink his teeth in flesh, get his mind off thinking. Instinctively, the Vuesain found purchase wherever he could on the coyote as the two tumbled for a few yards before Aleister finally caught shoulder skin and stopped the two of them from tumble-weeding across the ravine.

As Aida snapped her jaws threateningly towards the pair of coyotes, the wolf at her side snarled. A moment later and the agouti male had sprung into action, his smaller body launching forwards from the edge of the water to collide head-on with the coyote positioned to their left. The dark female’s amber gaze flickered between their tussling, tumbling bodies and the coyote still posturing to her right.

It was only when she saw that the male had a hold on his victim that she focused her full attention on the coyote before her. The smaller canine could posture at her all it wanted, she was still larger and undoubtedly stronger than it. She was well aware that she was the one with the advantage and, unlike her ally, Aida was not all for spilling blood. Not when there was a chance that she could get away from the situation unharmed, without a scratch.

Aida’s top lip curled back as she took a confident step forwards, the thick fur along her spine bristling up to make her appear all the more intimidating as she glared down at the coyote with her teeth bared, her chin pressed prudently against her pale throat just in case it had the nerve to strike at her now.

The release felt so good. Acting purely on instinct, the male didn't have a thought in his mind aside from where else he could sink his teeth into. He had a bloodlust to satisfy, unlike his larger counterpart who he glanced at momentarily as she dominantly stalked towards the other coyote. A mistake on his part, allowing the coyote to grapple at his chest with back legs as the rogue had him pinned against the forest floor.

A tense growl broke from his clenched teeth, making him squeeze even harder as he shook his head side to side violently in turn. Moving his body towards the coyote's back where he wouldn't be able to gouge his stomach, the vermin tried to snap at the agouti male's face. A canine caught purchase on the Keep wolf's muzzle just before he release the coyote's shoulder to gain purchase of the back of his neck. The coyote was quick to move, only allowing the rogue to catch part of his blonde ear before trying to escape the clutches of Aleister.

The coyote crouched down, its tail curling up between its legs as Aida stared it down. Sharp orange eyes narrowed on the smaller canine as the dark female curled her tail higher, the taste of victory sweet in her mouth as the coyote seemingly submitted. However, her display of dominance proved too eager when the coyote suddenly swiped its left paw up at her shoulder, clearly not willing to be defeated so easily.

The coyote’s claws grazed her shoulder, causing a small whine to escape the female as she flinched away instinctively. A loud, violent snarl immediately followed as Aida glared back towards the smaller canine, her bright amber eyes now smouldering with indignation.

Aida lunged for it, her jaws parted wide as she aimed to grasp it by the scruff of its neck. The smaller canine was much too quick for her though, and easily dodged her attempt to harm it, swiftly placing a few lengths between her and it. The dark female huffed, nostrils flaring in frustration as she glanced back over towards the agouti wolf. The male had the other coyote held precariously by its ear. Aida watched for a moment as it fought and struggled to escape his hold, curious to see how her ally would handle the situation.

Meanwhile, with her attention momentarily diverted, the coyote that had swiped at her had begun to approach her again, moving in a wide arc as it attempted to circle around her in preparation for another sneak attack.
