The heavyset woman had a weary look about her. Like a dusty old tapestry, her frayed edges were visible, from the brown streaks that covered her legs and underside to the wild way her mismatched eyes scanned the tall trees around her. This was it, she had been so certain, just as described... But they weren’t here either. Much like the length of the days as the temperature dropped, her hope was fading with the sun.
So the Lyall had made herself comfortable in the old grizzly den. It was just for a few days while she recovered and reassessed her options, they couldn’t be gone too, she wouldn’t allow herself to entertain the possibility.
Quickly nosing about had told her any remaining caches had been abandoned far too long to yield anything of worth, so she had resigned herself to an empty stomach. Morrigan was on her way back to the den from Jasper Rocks when she caught the movement ahead, a tail arched high and waving in greeting. There was something so familiar in the vision that she couldn't help but return the gesture, picking up her feet to persue, only stopping dead in her tracks when her companion had vanished, leaving no sound nor scent to follow.
A chill ran up her spine then, a small smile daring to tug at the edge of her lips, her head shaking as she glanced to the moon for guidance... Oh, but something suddenly smelled very appealing.
A nervous chuckle left her lips as she glanced over her shoulder in the direction where the apparition had dissolved. “Thanks Gramps,” it was just a hunch, but better safe than sorry she supposed, getting to work at digging up what had only recently been left behind.
