With the mother down and Hrun launching himself at the brawny girl's face, Maugrim was free to add pressure onto her. Really, she should have yielded immediately to tend to her mother. The boys had made it clear that they were only here for the food and attacked only to defend themselves. They could give two rat tails about the land the women had staked a claim on. Honestly, he tired of the whole thing. Even the meat seemed sour now.

"Foolish girl," he breathed, shoving past her and stalking away. "See to your mother. It's a harsh winter and, despite what you may think, you are all alone." He did not look back, and assumed that his brother would be hot on his heels.
