They'd been in the area for some time now, and other than her run-in with that other girl Vinnie hadn't seen anyone except Neo. She was starting to wonder if there was any chance of finding his sister, but she kept her pessimism to herself. She'd always had a hard time being hopeful, especially when others were involved, but Neo was teaching her - even if this was one lesson he wasn't intending to impart.

Vinnie woke up late and headed out into the orchard, hoping to find something eat and maybe a sign of someone they were looking for. She was trying to force herself to be braver, even if the idea of running into strangers left her quivering. But @Andrey had been nice, even with Vinnie being cold; and @Neo was obviously a friend.

As she was sniffing about, Vinnie noticed several deep drifts of snow in the open spaces between the trees. It had been windy the last couple days, but she hadn't noticed the snow building up. She hesitated, considering them. Once, when she had still been a puppy and she and her siblings had still loved each other, they used to jump into piles of snow like this and see who could get the deepest in one pounce. They played the same game in the autumn, when the wind caused leaves to pile up.

With a glance around herself and another moment of thought, Vinnie gathered herself up, took a bit of a running start, and launched herself into the soft ridge of snow.
