CCC Prompt #4 - You’ve come across what is clearly someone else’s kill. They must be coming back for it, right? Just the smell is making your mouth water and your stomach clench with hunger.

Her stomach rumbled noisily, protesting its emptiness. The shewolf even felt it bouncing hollowly with each step, making it completely impossible to ignore as she stalked along the bottom of the mountain. An irritated growl escaped her chest, which only worsened the condition as it reverberated through her empty gut, making it gurgle miserably. She was in no mood to hunt alone today, but it seemed there would be nothing for it, as she certainly wouldn’t get anything else done without shutting her stomach up first.

With a heavy sigh, Flair tilted back he head, nose quivering as she searched the air for the scent of prey. To her surprise and delight, the distant tang of blood reached her on a sudden breeze. With swift determination, she set off against the wind, hoping to find an easy meal. Though, when she came upon the carcass, she could hardly believe her luck.

Pushed up against the cliffside, carpeted in birds that took off as soon as she came too close, were the remains of a half-grown mountain goat; mostly intact from the looks of it. Russet brows arched high, the russet wolf approached with caution, sniffing curiously for any hint of what – or who – might have killed the creature. It seemed fresh, and with no scent of decease, nor any obvious marks left by a predator; Weird…!

Her stomach growled loudly again, demanding. Amber eyes cast a last glance around, but then she shrugged, far too hungry to pass on a free meal. She dug in ferociously, tearing down several pieces and wolfing them down as fast as she could. For a while she was fully occupied by the sweet taste, though as her stomach slowly filled, she started paying more note to her surroundings. There was a strange, rhythmic sound somewhere, making her ears twitch. Almost like… Breathing? She paused mid-bite wrinkling her brows in concentration. There was a faint rustle too, almost inaudible. Her frown grew deeper head lifting as she looked around again; Where… There weren’t exactly a lot of hiding places around.

Ears flattening back, Flair raised her hackles, growling out: “You better come out, now!” She was in no mood to be spied on; “If you didn’t want me t’ eat ya’ food, y’ shouldn’t’ve left it out like this!” She waited on stiff legs, but there was no response. Then, again, a rustling, louder this time; It’s coming from the rocks…? Still cautious, she stalked around the carcass to look closer at the cliff face, teeth barred. There, a small crevice, hidden in the shadows. Triumphant, the fiery woman shoved her muzzle into the opening, eager to confront the lurker. In response, she felt a sharp pain in her snout, as fierce talons grabbed at her, leaving several slashes in her sensitive nose before she managed to retract it; Fucking…!” She exclaimed, pulling her head out of the crevice and covering the wounds with one paw. From the rocks came a hoarse clucking, followed by loud rustles as the eagle shifted around, puffing out its feathers.

“You little bastard…” Flair mumbled, rubbing her snout. What was it doing hiding in there anyway?
