This lake was massive. Were they all this way this far north? Big enough to support islands, with rivers spreading out from it like it was reaching for something. With a pause in her steady gait, sky blue eyes studied one of the islands closest by from the shore. It looked rocky, and while it certainly would make an excellent place to hold down fort, it wouldn’t be somewhere she would want to live, she didn’t think. It didn’t look as if enough sunlight could pierce through the thickly grown pines that jutted out of the island, but she supposed if she wandered out of there every day, it would matter little. Dark brows furrowed, she wasn’t one to make rash or stupid decisions, and it’d be ridiculous for her to expend the energy to reach the island that she could use for something else. Not to mention, hunger and fatigue gnawed at her mind and stomach; a loud grumble and twist in her guts caused her to wince. But she had to see it.

Indecisive as ever, Jack glanced from the island to around the shore where she stood. Resuming her walk, the tawny woman began to pace back and forth along the stretch of beach. I could always come back… was the silent attempt as she tried to reason with herself. Perhaps she could justify it if she could find where the water had frozen over almost entirely, or rocks jutting out of the water that she could use intermittently. With finality, she padded out onto the ice that hugged the shoreline, ears alert for the sound of creaking ice below her, legs taut in the event she had to jump away to safety. Or further into the water, but Jack would cross that bridge when she got there.
