Volkan Aquila

Volkan turned in time to see that Nina had left the rock, and she followed, large paws carrying her swiftly and carefully back down the way she had come. When her feet were back on the soft ground, she kept her frame low as she crept around the rock to where the other wolf stood. With a gesture of her head, she motioned in the direction of the mysterious hooves, slowly drawing nearer to the creatures, expecting that Nina would accept her lead and follow along.

The abundance of spring foliage made it easy for the two wolves to remain hidden; if they were silent, they would have a chance. Slowly, hardly daring to move after taking up a hiding spot behind a leafy bush of odd berries, Volkan peered through the leaves. Finally the owners of the hooves were within her sights: a pair of caribou. They seemed to be females, as they had no antlers, but Volk hadn't encountered many caribou before, so she couldn't be sure— either way, the second animal was smaller. Though large enough to feed more than three wolves, or at least to stock the cache in preparation for when Aeylen would be confined to the den, it would be small enough for the two females to take down. Hopefully. If they made their move carefully. Volkan was tall, and while Nina was smaller, she'd said she could hunt, right?

Again she sought Nina's gaze, moving her eyes back and forth from the second caribou to indicate that she thought it would make the best target. Separating the other animal would be the challenge, to make sure she wouldn't attack.

The submissive female let Volkan take the lead as she padded after the female silently. THe female stayed silent and kept her sense alert. When hunting it was important. Since Volkan was larger than her she had strength on her side, whereas Nina had speed and stamina on her side. One of the best hunting teams had these kinds of wolves on them. As she approached where the female stopped she was overjoyed to see that there were two caribou, two of the same size at that. NIna kept her attention on her team leader, Volkan for anysign of the decision they were going to make. The slight move of Volkan's eyes caught Nina's attention as she looked between the two animals.

Every few times Nina could tell that Volkan's eyes reamined on the smaller of the two animals for a slightly longer time period indicating that she thought they better go for the smaller one. A small, brief nod was Nina's instant response. The ground below Nina was soft with soil indicating that it Would be easier to get a grip on the ground With a small nod at Volkan she awaited for her team leader to take the lead.

Hey, I hate to point this out, but I'm not sure wolves know how to draw, much less distinguish between human symbols such as Xs and Os on a chart. I'm not sure how realistic it is for Nina to have drawn a diagram, as I don't think wolves are capable of that type of communication... I'm not sure whether or not you want to edit, but I'm going to ignore that part of your post for now. No big deal, just letting you know :]

As the caribou awaited them nearby, Volkan kept an eye on them, only a sideways glance at Nina telling her that the other wolf seemed to agree with her. The smaller of the two creatures would be their target. Volkan was the larger of the two, so it made sense that she would be the one to do most of the taking-down of their prey. But she'd need Nina's help.

Slowly she crept forward in the direction of the smaller caribou, keeping her tall frame as low to the ground as possible. The drone of crickets and birds gave her decent cover under which to move silently, though she could swear she heard the animals' heavy hooves hit the ground with each idle step they took. Fortunately the two Creek wolves were already downwind of their prey— but all it would take for their prey to notice them, Volkan knew, would be a shift in the wind. So they needed to act fast. Looking back at Nina, it seemed agreed between them that Volkan would be the one to chase down and attack the smaller creature from behind, while Nina would intercept from the front. Hopefully, if the wolves presented themselves fearsomely enough, the other animal would run for her life.

With no other warning than a final glance back at her counterpart, Volkan shot through a gap in the trees with a loud snarl. The caribou caught on as if in slow motion, reacting just in the nick of time— the larger of the two took up the lead in fleeing, with the smaller one, and the silver wolf, hot on her heels. Violently the Creek wolf's limbs tore up the forest floor in the wake of her prey's hooves. A launch, and she was attached to the caribou's back left hip, hanging on for dear life with her jaws and claws, hoping desperately that Nina's speed would allow her to circle around front and get a grip on the animal near the neck...

The golden brown female's tony fur shown in the sunlight as she followed after Volkan. Nina had guessed correct with the other female's decision to go after the smaller caribou. She knew that neither of them could take down one of the caribou. As the other wolf snuck forward Nina made sure to keep herself close to the ground and sniffed the air. She was happy to report to herself that they were downwind, but with the current weather she wouldn't be surprised if the wind took a swift turn.

Watching her team leader closely without warning the other wolf took off with Nina quickly behind her tail. A loud snarl, she guessed was from Volkan, echoed through the small part of the forest. The caribou quickly started to gallop away, the larger of the two in the lead. The larger wolf was quick to catch up with them and she quickly latched onto the caribou's hip. With Nina hot in her trail the smaller wolf's speed was on her side as she circled around the caribou. Pushing with her back legs she ended up in front of the caribou. With a quick leap she launched herself at the caribou and snapped her jaws latching herself onto its neck area.

To Volkan's relief, the blurred form of Nina appeared in her sights. Nina had managed to get a solid neck hold on the thing, which was now bucking wildly, in vain. Its counterpart seemed to have galloped away, leaving it at the mercy of the wolves. The gray female, desperately clinging to their prey, hardened her bite, sinking her teeth in deeper. She couldn't tell why the animal seemed to be slowing down— it just was, and she wasn't complaining. Snarls and growls punctuating the silence of the midday woods along with the poor creature's bellows, the caribou's knobby legs finally buckled. It fell to the ground, unable to support its own weight, skidding to a halt as blood trickled steadily from its wounds like streams.

It was only then that Volkan dropped her hold on the thing's backside, her now crimson-stained mouth hanging open as she caught her breath. Physically, she felt exhausted, but knew she couldn't let her guard down just yet. Her eyes went to Nina. The creature would lose its life soon enough, after its body bled out. In an attempt to accelerate this process, Volkan tore at the wound she'd created, ruthlessly separating skin and fur from flesh as blood began to gush from between her jagged teeth.

The golden brown wolf was happy that finally the giant elk was brought down. She quickly had to release the animal so that she wouldn't be crushed by the massive weight. Backing a step away she looked over at Volkan. The female had just let go of the other animal and she was happy to see that the other wolf was okay. Though a few seconds ago she wouldn't be shocked if the load pair were heard. Watching Volkan closely Nina was slightly horrified at what the other female did next. While the caribou was still alive the other wolf tore a piece of skin off of the animal, the bone slightly noticable.

Muttering a quick prayer to herself as the animal bucked on the ground helplessly, "Thank you, Gods. We appreciate the meal you have provided for the pack." With a quick snap of her jaws the caribou stopped thrashing. She had bitten the caribou in the neck once more killing it quickly so it wouldn't bleed to death, Though the animal wasn't of the same race she would think that they wouldn't like to die the way it was going to, she just didn't want the animal to suffer.

OOC: Just saying that I'm sorry if the animal wasn't dead yet, I don't think it was. LOL

Fine with me :]

Volkan's faded eyes quickly fell upon her hunting partner, who was... talking to herself. This struck her as odd, but she said nothing about it, figuring whatever the other female was doing was of no consequence to her. Then Nina snapped the thing's neck. It suddenly fell still, and their battle was over— slowly the caribou's blood stopped gushing and merely trickled to the ground as Volkan sought the other wolf's gaze. "Eat if you're hungry, but Aeylen will need this more than we do," she told the other, gaze scanning the surrounding emerald woods with slight interest. Here in the pack lands, they were relatively safe from intruders who might be keen on stealing their meal, or worse. But they'd have to move the majority of the kill to the pack den, which could require more than one trip for each wolf...

Shrugging to herself and figuring they'd cross that bridge when they came to it, Volk settled into the same wound she'd created before, tearing off the first, gloriously fresh chunk of meat and snapping it up in her slender jaws. The taste was so rich, unlike the deer she was used to, and briefly she looked up to give Nina a bloody grin. "Not bad," she remarked. They'd actually been pretty successful, and Volk found herself undeniably impressed with her pack mate's ability to hunt cooperatively; surely, neither wolf by herself could've done this alone. Pleased, she continued dining, eager to get her fill and rest a bit before beginning the long haul to the den.

Though the other female offered for her to eat she shook her head with a small smile. She was hungry but she also knew that Aeylen would need the food more than she did, she could still last about another day before she absolutely had to eat something. Watching the female with soft emerald eyes she spoke in a soft, calm voice, "No thank you. I think Aeylen would apreciate as much food as she can get at the moment." The caribou was larger than she thought it was and she knew that the trip back might take awhile, but she knew that the two of them could eventually finish the task.

As Volkan settled down Nina took a seat and watched the other wolf's reaction as she sunk her jaws into a piece of meat. The female's ears twitched slightly in amusement as the female made a simple statement and sat there in a compainionable silence as she waited for the other wolf to finish her feel. She wouldn't rush the other wolf, she just wanted to get food back to Aeylen as soon as possible.

Volkan Aquila
End? :]

The irriguous forest was alive around the wolves and their kill. The circle of life had claimed another victim, at the same time bestowing the promise of life, even if for just a little longer, to her killers and their pack. Volkan ate quietly, efficiently, not wasting the meat she tore from the caribou. Nina refrained, which made her frown somewhat. Yeah, Aeylen would need all the sustenance she could get, but it was important to keep the pack fed, too. After all, hunters needed to stay alive as well; without them, there'd be less food for their leader. Too satisfied with her meal to bring this up, she got to her feet, reasoning that she and this Nina were pretty different after all.

But she was still proud of what they'd accomplished, and wore a smile as she surveyed their kill, standing over it. "This might take a while, but it's worth it," she mused at last. How to transport this kill? Volk figured the easiest way would be to bring large hunks, or perhaps whole limbs if they could manage, in multiple trips. The danger would fall in returning to their kill, but it was their only choice. "Take as much as you can with you the first time around," she added, a hint of warning in her voice. "We might have company when we get back."

She worked for a moment tearing a large hunk of meat from the kill, attempting to keep it in one piece for ease of transport, and then set off, the weight of it keeping her head low to the ground as she slunk away through the trees in the direction of the den.

Exit, if that's okay :]

((That is fine. I will close the thread after I put the closing post for me! :P))

The female smiled slightly at Volkan and nodded her head in agreement as she spoke of carrying as much as she could and Nina mechanically nodded her head and dipped her head down to tear off a piece of meat. She tore off some of the leg, a large piece if she may add and her head hung low as she followed Volkan, keeping her eyes on the back of the female. Something might be amiss when they came back, maybe not eating was a bad idea, she would just have to find out later.

Keeping her tail tucked underneath her and her jaws firmly implanted in the part of the leg that she was carrying she watched the area, marking the land in her mind so that she could navigate through Copper Rock Creek territory later. The crows squaked overhead, and Nina and Volkan made their way back to the denning area.
