For @Magg <3 RE:Matos, there is a rotten smell, but you cant seem to find the source

The day was bright as the large inky boy walked through the cove. He made sure to check in with his grandmother before going off on his own. She liked to know where they all were throughout the day. So instead of having her search him out he's gotten into a routine of checking in. He was a good noodle and didnt usually get into trouble. Unless it was following @Nash outside the borders.

The air wasnt quite as warm as he had remembered it being, but it wasnt something he had minded. Water even fell out of the sky, something that was still an anomaly to the child. How did it leave the lake and end op in the sky? Though rain wasnt on the boy's mind as he sniffed the air. Something peculiarly disgusting had crossed his path causing his ebony maw to bunch, revealing his new adult teeth. Mismatched eyes looked around for the source of the foul scent. What was that?

Magg was bored and seeking company, someone to direct her energies for her. She crossed her brother's scent and happily followed after it. When something else grew stronger on the wind, her curiosity was piqued. It was rancid, but still she kept wanting another sniff. It was a fun kind of smelly, the sort you rolled in and then tortured mom and dad with.

She spotted Matos, and the twisting of his features, and reactively scrunched up her own muzzle to fully imitate the expression. Well, if he didn't like it then she wouldn't either. She wanted to get along and play, not argue like what always seemed to happen with @Monatalia.

"Stinky," she commented as she padded to his side, wriggling her nose as though she could manage to close it.

It seemed as if the smell wouldn't solely torture him, as the Eastfall-Slayers tawny littermate appeared from the brush her nose also wrinkled. Matos' youth kept him from catching on to his sister's adaptability and mimicry, he simply thought she took disliked the scent. How could anyone really stand it?

"Very" He agreed with a nod of his head. His tail wagged in greeting when he saw her come from the forest. He loved both his littermates, even if they were always bickering. "I dunno where its comin' from though. Do ya?" he asked looking around once more before his mismatched gaze landed on her half similar gaze. He knew what dead things smelt like, but this was different.

"Nope," she answered confidently, tail wagging with ease behind her back. She hadn't a clue, but she hoped he wanted to follow after it to figure the mystery out. Magg certainly did, but not as much as she wanted her brother's company. That wasn't how one became the favorite sister anyways.

"Wha'd'ya wanna do about it? Were ya up to anything fun?"

Or had he just been focused on the smell for a while before she'd come along? She looked around, surveying the place she'd found him.

Sadly she didnt know the source either, his dark brow furrowed in response. He perked up as she asked what he wanted to do about it before asking if he had been doin anything fun before hand. His onyx banner waved excited behind him "Wanna find it? 'N no I just checked in with Gran then came across this smell." He didnt really wait for her response before putting his coal nose to the ground to start their investigation. He had confidence she would agree with him and start looking too. His curiosity to know what it was was so strong now, he just had to know. The inky Eastfall-Slayer boy was turning into quite the investigator.

Wanna find it? Magg brightened light a sunflower at dawn, tail now whipping through the air at her wolfish heels. She grinned widely and nodded her head quickly.

"Yeah!" Was that too enthusiastic? Ah well. Calibrate, press forward. One day, she would operate like a machine of precision. He claimed not to have had an eventful day thus far either, and she thought perhaps this could be the end of a lull for both of them.

"Maybe it'll be something exciting," she mused as she took a few strides forward, nose tilted up into the slight breeze which carried the sour odor. It seemed to be coming from... that way. Magg began to follow the scent's trail.

"Maybe it's... the oldest, stinkiest wolf ever comin' to visit."

It seemed as if Mat wasnt the only enthusiastic one to find the source. His sister's clear excitement caused a wide smile to pull at his inky lips. While he took to the ground she took to the air. Magg's effort seemed to have better luck as she moved in a direction musing that maybe what they found would be exciting. "Maybe!" He chirped moving to follow her, allowing her to take the lead. This time it seemed as if she was the better investigator.

A loud laugh fell from the small boy at his littermate's speculation. He mulled over what he thought the source could be. "Ya! Or or maybe its a super rotten carcass! Of like like a deer or sumthin' cool!"He pondered scanning as they walked. The scent was growing stronger, which was a good sign they were heading in the right direction.

She didn't much notice who was taking charge or taking more accurate guesses, Magg was simply happy to be doing something with another. Even if they ended up never actually finding the source, it was still a fun thing to do and would be an interesting story to relay later on. Still, she did hope they had success and that her brother was right. That sounded way more cool, a whole deer?

"With antlers and all!" she added gleefully, taking a few hops instead of steps to expel some of that excitement. There were plenty of questions that would come along with that as well, like why wasn't it eaten and who took it down if not their pack? That just made the prospect all the more interesting, though. The bigger the mystery, the more fun, right?

"I think we're getting close..."

The scent had grown strong enough now that it kind of made her want to gag, even if she still found it oddly appealing. She began to slow and look more carefully at her surroundings, not wanting to miss the source.

If he thought the smell was rancid before...his stomach churned as his muzzle wrinkled once more. Though the foulness assaulted his senses he was still very curious. His mind continued through the possibilities as they continued to search. Surely they would be upon it at any moment! "I still dont see anythin' though" the boy chirped beginning to become frustrated. How could they possibly be missing it? He moved to search the under brush. He wanted something to show his mama or dad or gran! Or maybe the other kids too? But a story is no fun if there isnt proof. Mona would definitely think they were lying.

No matter how they looked, it kept eluding them. Magg shoved her nose into thick clumps of grass and dove into the root systems of trees but there was nothing to be found. Just the smell itself, ever present and nearly thick enough to choke. As time passed and nothing changed, the young girl began to frown and grow restless.

I still dont see anythin' though, she heard her brother say.

"Me either," Magg replied with a pout, tail now twitching with her own agitation rather than swaying happily as it had before. Yeah, it was mysterious, but she supposed she'd really gotten her hopes up about that antlered deer carcass they'd imagined. She rolled over a particularly large stone and sighed when she saw there was nothing but the usual sort of bugs which lived underneath and in-between everything in the forest.
