Dead Empress Backwater IX. Subordinate
Asmund Ingerssen Valle
Asmund frowned even more deeply as his sister gave him the same directions, irritating him further rather than being the encouragement she'd desired to provide. He stayed as he was, or at least wanted to. His mother had other ideas however, and he squawked loudly in surprise and outrage as she forced some distance between them.

Takk for den dumme maten, his thoughts hissed, but he did not have the audacity to breathe them to life. Teeth clenched visibly as he scowled, the boy glared back at his sibling and parent briefly before finely buckling to the expectations.

"Takkfmaten," he muttered quickly, and then dove right back into hiding behind one of Inger's thin legs.

Llinea Ingersdatter

Llinnea was proud of herself for getting the new words out and wanted Az to try it too, but he seemed more interested in hiding. Mor finally pushed him out into the open, nearer to her, and the girl poked at him with a paw as he finally blurted the phrase and dove back into hiding. Llinnea frowned and thought about moving forward to drag him out, but then their visitor was talking and Mor was talking back, in those strange words. She listened keenly, hoping to learn more new things.

"Boo-t'ful," she tried. She had no idea what it meant, but she could say it and that was the important part. She grinned, tail wagging, oblivious to the conversation her mor was trying to accomplish.

Archer Valle

Archer Valle

Watching Inger with her children made Archer laugh. The one was excited to be out and speaking, while the other hid. He wondered how they'd be growing up together, if they'd be as close as he was with his own littermate, or if they'd be more like his half-siblings, scattered to the winds. The thought of his own family sent a pang of guilt through him. Here he was, sharing these important moments with strangers to their home, and he hadn't with his own siblings. The new brood was out and about, and he'd hardly spent any time with any of them.

He needed to be a better brother.

Archer was distracted from his concerns by Inger speaking words of his own language to him. His ears pricked. "...Are you asking how I am?" he asked slowly, smiling. "I'm good. You?" He hoped smaller sentences would be helpful in their communication. Maybe she would pick it up better - and he could pick up their words too.

[size=x-small]Archer is very haggard and thin; it is obvious he is not doing well.

Inger
Per the routine, she touched her nose to Asmund's crown once again as he scuttled to her. Her tail even gave a few wags, happy that he had complied and not fought her any further on the matter. It was a simple thing to do, after all; saying thanks. She wished could express how grateful she truly was in much clearer terms, but this would have to do for now.

He answered her question with another query, and she was confused but rode out the rest of his words before letting it show. Ah. Good. Her tail set into motion again at that little bit of understanding.

"Good," she answered, more so because it was the only response she could think of. That was the end of that then, and so she searched for another thread to pull at.

"Ah... Viorel... er faren din? 'Pappa'?"
(... is your father? 'Dad'?)
