He gets the impression she knows the peaks of which he speak, but he can't really say why. Maybe it's the fact that she just accepts what he says without further question, or maybe it's the fact that the moment you get on the edge of this strange, veiled forest you see them loom on the horizon- jagged, hungry, proud.

Malien's head tilts to the side at her little confession. Thinking about leaving, are we? My, my. He can't say he disapproves, but it makes him wonder why. This place doesn't seem half bad in this weather, and prey tends to be plentiful in the thick forests, but.. he imagines this place in fall. Wet, squelchy, moist, dreary, damp and in constant fake twilight. Hrrr. No thanks.

"Any idea on where you might go?" he asks, innocuous enough. It doesn't hurt to keep tabs on those you know, and she's pleasant- obviously, he has no idea what she's actually like, but if she's honest now, well, she seems a pretty solid and dependable sort.

His question had left her without an answer, standing amid the sparkling snow and ice. Everything was so ephemeral, as temporary as the snows, who could say where she might find herself in a week, a season? Not having an answer to such questions usually did not weigh her down much. But the thoughts of staying or having to leave both made her heart heavy in different ways, and so she kept casting that worry into the future a day at a time.

"Wherever the wind takes me," Lana said in response to his question, fully knowing it was not an answer or a plan. But she gave him a wistful smile. Such loose plans had always been good enough before, even if they came at the cost of never setting down roots or building anything worthwhile. She survived because she knew when to cut her losses, or she told herself as much. Maybe this time she would do so, maybe not. Maybe she and this man would meet again in their travels, but who knew? In the end they were all beholden to the whims of fate and the destinies they created for themselves with each choice. She could only wish him well in the end.
