They took care of themselves Loach claimed, but. Clouse's closed eyes squeezed just a little tighter, toes curling against hard earth as the rest of his words came. Each of them made him feel all the more strongly for the man and it was utterly cruel because it also felt like the beginning of the end. Or had that been the day he'd wandered off? Inevitable, just as he'd known it would be and still he hadn't just left well enough alone.

This wasn't about him, though. This was about Loach discovering what he really wanted his place in life to be, and Clouse didn't want to spoil any part of that.

"Independent or not... they're lucky to have you, in any capacity."

He could see Loach thriving as a leader, could see him excelling in quite a few different occupations, actually. Anything he wanted, really. Clouse supposed he'd just hoped that would be... something different.

"All that matters is you're enjoying things."

Loach

Enjoyin' it more with your visit.

And he meant it.

None of what he did compared to the special spice and joy in his life from Clouse. Distance made the heart grow fonder was one hell of saying, he had come to learn. It had maddened him some nights.

Now he meant to balm their night, as long as Clouse would stay in the dark hours. Loach had come to understand the man was not meant to be here every hour now.

It only meant that the had to enjoy the hours they did have.

Clouse continued to feel a mixture of opposing emotions, largely appreciation and guilt. To focus on less heavy topics was an opportunity he would gladly take, but it pained him to recognize the ways in which he was reluctant to be a safe space for the wolf who made his heart beat so quickly. It fluttered now with affection, and he chased his thoughts away by following it.

He nibbled at Loach's neck before pulling away entirely, dancing out of reach with a playful, lopsided smile upon his silver-smattered muzzle. Dropping onto elbows and waving his rump he dared the other man to chase after him. Content to think only of themselves for the remainder of their night together.
