Sparse clouds overhead let through thin rays of sunlight, enough to illuminate the frosted landscape and the puffs of air that emanated from the snowy woman's muzzle. It was certainly growing colder, with the silvery rime of frost adding a beauty to the landscape that seemed at odds with the peril of the season.
Isomne was returning to the borders of the Chasm with a hare, its own pelt changed a little early to match the snows to come, leaving it woefully exposed in these last late autumn days. As she made her way part a familiar tree, she paused to look up at it - leaves were raining down as the morning light touched the frosted boughs. In the days before, and before dawn when she had departed, it had still held most of its leaves, a vibrant splash of color on the fading landscape. Now, despite the still air, the leaves were falling at a swift rate, and she felt sure that by the afternoon, the tree would be bare. It felt special, somehow, to witness such a thing, but she could not shake the feeling that it was an omen of a harsh winter to come as well.
