Sanguine Cove temporary fix

Eclypse had led Jay more or less to the Cove.

She trusted him to follow her clear trail at a pace that was easier for him and find a place to rest respectfully at the borders. Meanwhile she could rally her father and mother to inform them of the guest she had found. That this man, Jay, knew her father!

It would important to gather her father too because of these things but she had enough sense to know that a shaman was needed first. The man needed a good look over, better than whatever the girl could offer with her lacking knowledge. So she had ran through the Cove to get her mother.

Her voice raised and she wasted no time at all.

"MOM! I found this guy and he looks, um, well...not great? But he knew us! He knows dad too! His name is Jay. Can you come meet him please? It's really important!"

Out of breath, huffing and puffing, she was prepared to turn right around to lead her mother straight out to the border.

She had been relieved that Eclypse was home, though she was still working through her own medical ailments as she continued to fight through the particularly nasty upper respiratory infection that had settled in her lungs. Things had been much better, and she’d used her coughing fits as opportunities to teach her daughter and give her the desired herbal knowledge that she had sought upon her return. She had been laying down and resting after pushing herself just a little too hard with her daughter’s return.

She had just woken up from the nap when her daughter came bounding in with a raised voice, stating she had met a stranger who knew her husband, and of the Cove, and that he needed help. Jay did not ring a bell, but she had seen many faces come and go through her time in the Cove, and she wondered if it had been one of the more temporary faces… or perhaps this man that she had found was from before she had found the Cove, back when it had been Fallen Tree Cove.

She frowned as her daughter huffed out of breath but pushed herself up. “Take me to him.” She would state, that usual caring nature about her. “What ails him? Is he injured? Or sick? Or both?”

He had indeed followed in the wake of the young wolf who had promised aid. Around that lake to where there were more worn and defined paths. To where the scents of a pack became stronger. Their presence and borders were unmistakable, tucked away amidst the trees that at present, disguised any of them from view. It was beneath one such tree where the wanderer would choose to lie down and wait.

Affording himself a rest, as well as some time to try to clean himself up a little, for whatever good it would do. He half expected that mom, or whatever other adults ended up coming back with Eclypse might just deem him too far gone and turn him away. And if they did not, was staying with them  - becoming a burden on their resources - the right choice?

Jadon supposed he couldn’t know until he’d met them.

Luckily Nash was not far when his daughter retrieved Aquene and he heard her shout of, "MOM!" He didn't hear much beyond, but he still rose and padded after them, picking up his pace to try to catch up. They were headed for the border. He came up alongside his wife, gently brushing his pelt against hers as he matched their pace. Eclypse looked to be doing well, to his immense relief given the summer she'd had - and her extended disappearance.

Now they just needed Mona to come back.

The scent of another wolf brushed Nash's nose as they approached the borders and he glanced again to his daughter. He'd missed what she'd said to her mother; perhaps she'd told her they had a visitor? Especially because this visitor didn't look well. At least he did look familiar, and the leader felt a bit better for recalling that the man didn't seem to be much of a threat, and his daughter had -probably - been safe in meeting him.

"He just looks..."

She was not sure how to compare it. Like Grandma but not? It also felt rude, maybe, to both Grandma and Jay.

"Rough. Tired but...deeply." Her face skewed, she had never seen anyone in such a condition. While it had not scared her, it had instilled a sense of urgency in her. A need to provide and quickly! Thankfully her father seemed to fall in line with them soon after. Her tail wagged, grateful.

"Hi Jay!" She beamed widely as if they had not basically just parted. "This is my mom and dad..."

A muzzled swept to gesture towards them so they might do introductions. Even if Jay had seemed to already know her dad and the Cove!

She did not recognize him, though there was a familiar air about him that caused her to frown… apart from the sickness, that was. She ran her maw gently against Eclypse’s cheek. Her attention was quickly turned to him, sniffing as she tried to assess what was wrong with him. She recognized it… she had even felt it herself before she had found Aleister and become a founding member of the Cove. He was starving… and she looked to Nash as she spoke, though her words were directed to her daughter.

“Quick, Eclypse, find the nearest cache and fetch him some food. It will help him most right now.” Of course, that would not fix it overnight. He needed rest, tending, and a few herbs that would also help sate the hunger that lingered deep within him of course. It was not just that, but scratches that would need to be tended, and burs in the fur that would need to be worked out. “Nash, help me get him to the medicinal den, please.” She would ask of her mate, having made a decision just as she always did to tend to those who came to their borders for help.

Aquene Slayer

Not just mother, but father as well, presumably, had joined Eclypse for the meeting. Jadon couldn’t fault him that at all, and was pleased to see he recognized the man. Nash.

A glance over each member of the approaching trio revealed a resemblance, a familial bond between them all. A pang of envy coursed through him, missing his own family, but it was a sentiment the wanderer tried to ignore.

Eclypse greeted him warmly, introducing her parents as mom and dad. Jay glanced to each of them before bowing his head in greeting, and keeping it lowered as the presumed leaders came forth. He could almost feel the older woman’s gaze looking him over, and it didn’t take the mother very long to start providing directions.

First to her daughter, then to Nash. Get him to the medicinal den…

The last bit prompted Jay to take a half-step back, a small shake of his muzzle signalling reluctance..”W-wait..” he whispered, pausing for a breath. ”What.. is the length of servitude that will be required of me, in recompense for your aid?”

Six moons? A year? A part of him hoped not. He didn’t wish to be trapped here. But at the same time.. what price could be put on life?
