Chan Eastfall
Random Event: Paradise Falls, a snapping turtle is meandering through your territory, trying to take a chunk out of anyone that gets in his way. For @Jethro only.

Chan was getting annoyed, but he did his best not to show it. He'd been working on leading the violent reptile outside of where the Falls wolves roamed, but of course the thing wasn't exactly cooperative. It veered off course, charged at his paws, and then would shelter in place and have to be waited out to get moving again. Maybe there were other methods of handling a problem like this, but this was the same wolf that moved spiders out of the way instead of crushing them. Turtle didn't taste very good in his opinion, and the time being spent wasn't worth the risk of a nasty bite or salmonella.

Still, he would have liked to be done by now and back with his kids.

Currently, the snapper was toddling fiercely after him, craning its neck and snapping at the air between them now and again. He kept an easy pace, looking over his shoulder now and then to make sure he wasn't losing it (or that it hadn't suddenly become faster).

"C'mon, dummy, you'll like the pond better anyway..."

Most of his time now was spent closer to home. Often within the confines of their comfortable territory, minus the occasional hunt or patrol that took them beyond. Mornings were typically spent checking in on his family, then some of the other wolves. Especially their newer faces, with preference often given to Pan. Making sure she was fed, rested, and as content as she could be in a new place without any of her family here.

Then came patrols and checks on their food and water supply. Or other duties as necessary.

Jethro had just been on his way back from one of those when a voice just up ahead caught his ear. He recognized it as Chan. Ordinarily, he wouldn’t have paid it much mind, but how he spoke - c’mon, dummy… - was so uncharacteristic that the dark man couldn’t help but change his path to take a look.

And he was glad he did. A dozen or so steps around a couple of different trees rewarded Jet with a sight he hadn’t expected. Chan, leading a turtle of all things, presumably out of the territory.

As little experience as he had with turtles, he’d have probably tried to trap and kill it in some way. But what Chan appeared to be doing was.. probably better. For the first time in a while, he was glad to have the older man here, teaching him something yet again. As it was now, Jet remained off to the side, so as to not distract or interfere with Chan’s operation.

Chan didn't manage to hear Jethro's approach, but he did catch a glimpse of him out of his peripheral vision. His mismatched gaze began to bounce between the snapper and his packmate, knowing better than to look away from the former for too long.

"Heya, Jet," he greeted, a bit of that old sunniness back in his voice. The Falls were indeed healing, though Chan would have never anticipated that he would become one of the younger wolf's saved. That was a lot about his life these past few years that he had never seen coming.

The turtle was growing frustrated again, unable to catch up much less close its beak down upon the lumbering beast taunting it. In protest and weariness, it bunkered down once more. Chan sighed.

"I've been at this for an hour..."

It didn’t appear as if the elder wolf had noticed him immediately, but at some point Chan did spot him. He glanced from the turtle to Jet, and back again after his greeting, prompting a wry smile from the dark man. He also felt brave enough to take two steps forward after having been acknowledged.

”Chan,” he returned. Cordial, amused, and perhaps even a tad joking. ”Havin’ fun?”

A sigh indicated otherwise, as Jet had half expected. It was hard to believe that anyone, aside from maybe a child, could be very pleased after having been at this for an hour.

”Take a rest, if you want. I’ll keep an eye on him,” the dark one proposed. He didn’t mind taking up that duty, and maybe he could think of some kind of way to dispose of this thing more quickly.
