Atara had been up all night, trying to track down an incessant howling sound. It couldn't have been a wolf, it just wasn't possible. Always changing direction but never tone, sometimes sounding like it was everywhere at once and sometimes as though it were directly above her, high as the stars, and never tiring. At least, not until twilight began to crack open the night sky at the horizon line. Now, it was the time she normally awoke, and she'd had plans for this morning. Trying to blink the blur from her vision, she approached @Hazelnut's whelping den with a shed antler betwixt her jaws. Atty was making a valiant attempt at appearing perfectly rested, but it was impossible to completely erase every sign. Still, she was there to play with her niece, as she had promised. It would have taken much more than a stupid noise or a little lost sleep for her to break her word. Atara lightly tossed the gift to the ground before calling out. "Good morning. Is Indigo ready to come out?" while her words perpetually took on a formal cadence, there was a warmth to them now, stiffness softened especially for the young child. |

Indigo drifted on the edge of consciousness, flashes of a strange creature crying in the night with huge bright eyes, while she lay curled on the floor of her den. She was pulled from her confusing dreams by a voice, far away but familiar. It drew her into the darkness of the den, toward the circle of light peeking down its entrance. She stretched with a dramatic yawn and flop onto her side before she crawled toward the source.
Her sleepy expression broke into a smile as she saw her aunt. She pulled herself from the den and shook to fling off bits of dirt that clung to her pelt. Indigo bounded toward Aunt Atty with a wide grin, calling out with sharp yips.
"Aunty! Aunty," she squeaked, her tail wagging fiercely. She could see the gift that lay at the older woman's feet, white flecked with brown gleaming in the early light. She bowed down and focused her attention on the antler. "Issat a toy?" She batted at it with a question in her eyes-- desire to chew and drag the antler around.

It was Indigo herself who answered, brightening Atara's expression considerably as she cheered back, "Indi!" It meant a lot, when the small girl was so happy to see her. Of course, the real star was the fun she'd brought along. Atty's smile widened, a few longteeth poking out to join the expression. "Sure is, just for you, sweetheart." As if further encouragement might be needed, the older girl nosed the antler toward her niece for good measure. "Do you know what you'd like us to do this morning?" She was up for pretty much anything, whether it be simply relaxing and playing with here, or visiting somewhere else. Within the Mother-approved radius and only with her approval, of course. |
