Early morning, clear sky, 59° F/15° C

Each step being taken was full of pride and curiosity, nose to the ground and eyes to the sky. With the coordination of a new-born lamb, his overly large legs shook with each new pounce, the chance of toppling over quite high. His high dominant tail tilted to keep him balanced, somehow managing to change his entire weight. The little rascal he was, the boy was not interested in his surroundings, but more on how to destroy them, or what he could get out of them. His sparklingly white teeth shredded vegetation, seeing which ones tasted best. His claws left small holes in the ground, just for fun. Thick goopy slobber rested upon every inch of Copper Rock Creek thanks to the tyke, who was not distracted by sticks or rocks, but instead had his eye upon the entire territory. He was the reason only alphas had pups. The entire pack would have to watch over him intently to make sure he survived, and was not found dead head first in the water he was so hypnotised by. He leapt up towards the creek, chocolate brown paws pressed up against a hard stone. Had he had the strength, he’d have jumped onto the rock and looked over his kingdom. That though, wasn’t an option. Instead he was cursed to stand on his hind-legs and try to view it from there, a compromise that just didn’t fulfill his standards. He wanted more. Had Mirren or Vaeta been beside him, he’d demand they crouch down and do the job of a ladder. Whether or not his order would be met with agreement wasn’t important, if at first they did not accept, he’d jump on them anyways.

A frustrated exhale left the boy’s spunky lips, turning his back on the creek. For those couple seconds, it seemed he had given up on the whole attempt. Giving up was not in Nios’ personality. It was ten steps exactly before the pup did the impossible. Each step, each breath, it was all well planned, even from the mind of a toddler. Turning around with a vicious strike, the pup sprinted off, gathering momentum, leaping into the air at the last second, using the smaller rocks as a staircase. He had won. A smug smile wrapped around his face, the wind blowing a cooling gust upon his glittering fur. He positioned his paws regally on the stone as if he owned it, and after that risky event, he deserved it.

He was a smart little bugger. Unlike Mirren, he didn’t have the muscular build. Unlike Vaeta, he didn’t have the irresistible beauty. He was a street rat, with the monopolizing charm and clever instinct. Very much a social butterfly, with scruffy tangled fur and mysterious eyes, the pup lifted his neck higher in the air and let the wind blow back his chest fur. This was home. His future was unclear, the pup could choose from many lifestyles. At the age now where his siblings and he would have go through dominance fights constantly, the brown boy had the potential for greatness. It was just a matter of applying himself for it. While it was an odd sight to see such a small and fragile pup so high up and eager, it was humorous. He was a go-getter, a troublemaker, and the son of great leaders. It was in his blood to test the boundaries while he was still young, before he was treated like everyone else. He would take advantage of his youth while he had it, before the entire ranking system really affected him.

It was like he was absorbing the pack air, breathing in the only scent he knew, the odour of his family. He wore it proudly on his own pelt, looking over his entire world with unblinking eyes. The only movement throughout his body was the rise and fall of his scruffy chest, expanding, then releasing, each inhale deep and passionate. A handsome patch of fur stuck up right on the top of his head, like a mane, covered in dirt. The dirt didn’t make him look gross, it make him look rigid, manly, even for a child. One glimpse at him, and you’d know what he was up to. He was up to no good. It wasn’t hard to guess, the way his smile was tilted, the way his body adjusted to his environment, making this well-crafted home a dangerous playground. He wanted to experience it all, each thrill, each moment of fear and shock. Looking at him, you entered his world, his way of seeing things, not yours. He was at ease, so rough looking and free. He wanted to do whatever he pleased. He didn’t care about being a prince. He cared about being a kid, fast-thinking, instinctive, a warrior in training. He could do no wrong. Perched upon his throne, there was no wrong in the world, just him.

Silence seemed to be the only thing that surrounded the small area at the moment. The suns rays were shining radiantly over ones head and the towering clouds, threatening to soon cover up the sun that shown through the land. Peace hung over the air in the sense that nothing could be wrong. Nothing and no one would be there to destroy the moment of peace in the air. The only sign of something being disturbed was the slight rustle of leaves as the wind blew. Bushes and trees whistled in the breeze, almost seeming to whisper unheard secrets that no one could hear. Then the silence was broken, my the slick sound of claws being scraped over rock.

Nina’s one eye opened to see the sun shining brightly in her one eye. The breeze was, luckily, blowing in her direction, giving her the odds of smelling the scents around her. There was a pack mate in the area, one who she hadn’t met yet. But the male she smelt was clearly covered with the scent of Aeylen and Ruiko. She didn’t want to scare the other though. . .to ones who seemed to just be getting to know her, her appearance may have seemed disheveled. Ugly even. . .if one were to be rude enough to point the fact out.

Curiosity soon got the best out of Nina and she shot up from her spot on the ground and continued towards where the scent was coming from. She hadn’t taken a small amount of time to get away from the pack and for some alone time. And she most likely would have stayed away, if the plaque of curiosity hadn’t taken over her first. Now she was on her way to figure out what this new scent was. Nina hadn’t even taken her turn to watch over the pups quite yet. The thought that this might be one of them scared her. She hadn’t wanted to scare the little angels and had simply stayed away from them all together.

Today, it seemed, she wouldn’t be quite as lucky. As soon as she reached the point near the creek a small brown form came into view. It was, indeed, one of the little pups. And he was very near the creek. The golden brown female rushed over to where the little boy was, her one eye wide in fear. Her mouth soon opened before closely. She dipped her head slightly to the younger male. For he was in fact royalty.

Nios Tainn
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/bluepups/NiosTable.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; padding-top: 205px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; text-align:justify;">The scoundrel was not prepared for company, and even more so for one-eyed female company. Still, even a child at this age had common sense. What would his parents think? The two would be disappointed to see him react foolishly, surely. That was why he did not back-pedal off the platform. He did not stare wide-eyed at her scar, nor did he even glimpse at it curiously for very long. Refusing to appear extremely shocked, he watched her bow respectfully, and returned the favour, still a little uncomfortable. Had she been missing an eye, and a leg, then he may have gawked. She wore the pack scent, and that was enough for him. She was pretty. Not like his mother pretty, but her eye was a nice shade of green. It was a shame she only had one. The riff-raff pup turned to face the creek once more, pursing his curiosities inside. How did someone lose an eye? It made her look tough, like she got in fights all the time, made her look stronger too. Nios wanted to have that vibe over people, threatening and dangerous, but could he pull it off with both eyes? Standing in wonder, he realized it didn’t matter, he’d figure it out. He always did.

The pup seemed more aware of her presence when he turned to face her once more, as if he expected her to have left. When it became clear that it would polite to introduce himself the boy cleared his throat and gave an award-winning grin. Nios Tainn, a past-down name from Ruiko’s side of the family. The boy hated that. Maybe Mirren would have thought it an honor, but Nios made a face each moment he remembered. He did not see it as an honor. He could picture his own birth, a tiny child beside his siblings. He could picture the naming of Mirren and Vaeta, hear them squealing as they received their own identity. He could also see both his mother and father glaring at the unnamed boy at their side, a puddle of brown and gold, such an awkward and odd looking thing. As if his parents were tired and bored, lacking creativity, they would give him a lick and place him in the paw-prints of another. While Mirren and Vaeta were born unique, it was Nios who received the historical title of another. Of course, when he grew older he’d release how special that would be, how lucky he was to have that respect. At that second, his face contorted into a frustrated scowl, he pursed his lips and did what a child does best. “I’m Rupert.”

The name served no purpose. Had someone who knew it was a lie been around, they would have found things humorous, unless of course, that person was his parents. There was no hesitation in his tone. He did not even question himself. At that second, Nios Tainn did not exist. He was Rupert Tainn, a clever and witty pup. He wasn’t thinking of the future, had he even acknowledged the trouble his fable would case he’d have stopped in his tracks. It didn’t matter, he had no regrets. Still, the Rupert lie was a little unstable. If Nios wanted to become this character, he needed a background story. “I lost an eye once, got in a deadly fight with another wolf.”

He looked down, then back up, large golden Tainn eyes reflecting Nina’s face. "It grew back." The imagination in this kid was endless, and would only grow. His confidence backed up every word he said, as if he truly did believe it. Had his lie been a little less impossible, he’d be able to persuade anyone. Nodding his head sub-consciously, a trick car salesmen use to get you to agree, he gave another hypnotizing smile before completely jumping off the large dangerous boulder. Yet again, there was no hesitation. It was all instinct. The brown ball of spunk gave all he had into not killing himself. To get up he had jumped from rock to rock, slowly making his way off the ground. Now?

He just jumped. Like a cat, he landed on his feet. The impact went through his entire body, bones tensing as he hit the surface. It hurt, but he didn’t show it. Instead he showed a cocky smirk, proud of himself for his bravery.

She sat down, watching him closely. Curiosity passed through his eyes, but overall. . .Nina was impressed by how well the young man composed himself. He didn’t ask her any questions and he didn’t stare that long at her face either. She was glad that he didn’t seem generally terrified around her, and the thought pleased her heart. At least the young man had some sort of heart. . . The thoughts soon passed over her head though, when the young man spoke. He told her his name and how he had “lost an eye” and then later “grown it back.” She shouldn’t have felt hurt over the small sentence, but she couldn’t seem to help it. He was a pup in the first place and the golden beauty shouldn’t have expected anything more out of the young man.

With a sigh Nina shook her head, "If you are going to lie, you should try to make a good effort out of it. Now. . .are you Nios or Mirren?" The young girl’s tail curled, an unfortunate habit she had gotten after the attack. She didn’t even seem to notice it sometimes, something that made it even worse, because to her, she didn’t want it to seem like an insult to anyone else she was near her. Her good emerald eye watched the young male closely. The pups were now allowed out of the denning area, something that put the brown fae easily on edge. She would have to keep a closer eye on the little angels.

The little male seemed generally proud of himself as he jumped down from the large drop. A small scolding growl escaped Nina’s throat and her brows creased together as she looked at the little thing, "You shouldn‘t do that. If you want to grow up big and strong you can‘t be messing around like you just were." The lady’s tail lashed slightly as she stared at the little man, her one eye furious. He had a perfectly good body and she did not want him to ruin that for the foolish things that he was doing.
