Weldering Darksidy
THE WORLD IS BROKEN HALOS FAIL TO GLISTEN
WE TRY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE BUT NO ONE WANTS TO LISTEN

Finally there were signs of hope in this situation. As Marsh begun to relax Weldering mirrored his posture letting his own silver furs along his spine slide back down into their rightful places, if not a bit ruffled up. His maw closing and no longer was there a direct appearance of a threat it was replaced with a stern and unimpressed glare even as Marsh uttered another soft growl. It was now becoming clear that even the hot-headed Marsh did not actually want a fight. Neither did Weldering either but only out of pure common sense. The repercussions of two lone wolves fighting could very well lead to injuries and when a loner without anyone else to hunt or heal for them... well life looked bleak. Very bleak.

What the stranger said not he had not expected, Marsh finally was agreeing with Weldering. His explanation given with the same scattered formation of words but even so Weldering could piece them all together. Marsh had been sleeping and he had tripped over him, so that had been what happened and now with one of the males taking responsibility it was a lot easier now for Weldering to do the same. "Mmm... sorry mate. I guess you were hidden pretty good." Yet while Marsh suggested that he should have been looking out where he had been walking when Weldering had approached all he could see was a tuft of grass and avoiding sleeping wolves under the grass the the last thing he expected. Maybe it was the fact that the other male explained how he was also alone that made Weldering soften up so much as he sighed lightly to himself. "I'm a lone wolf too, by myself." Deciding to mention it to the other to move the conversation away from the incident. "Have you been a lone wolf all your life?"

Thus both sides accepted responsibility, and there was little to no need for hostility. Marsh had decided that they were alone, once and for all, so he did not need to be on edge. Nor did he had any intention of harming this boy just for the sake of it, and as such, he wanted to reduce the risk of further misunderstandings. He let his hackles fall completely, his tail fall stiffly, flatly outwards (no need to get too cosy) and his lip come down to cover his teeth. No sooner had he done so than his mouth opened and he began to pant (that would help his speech loads), becoming fully aware of how overheated he was, spending such time in the blazing sun.

And it was finally confirmed, the boy was a loner. Marsh felt an odd kind of empathy, a kinship without much emotion, just a mutual understanding. He knew that the boy must have been as agitated by the whole thing as he. That encouraged him to further relax, though of course his mind never stopped being alert. Then there was a curious question. Marsh blinked a little, processing it, and licked his lips. <b>"No, no. Just... recent, since - sppprrrr...ing? There... others, before, but, but always... happen - alone. Will find annnnnnother. Being... is hard."</b> Marsh then frowned, wondering if there was something more behind the question. <b>"Hh... y-you?"</b>

The minim tension now was the key for while Marsh slipped even further still into a state of relaxation as did Weldering. His ears no longer folded back in a sign of aggression or too far forwards in a display of dominance. Instead they were alertly erected on the top of his silver coloured head just behind from where his black mask begun. He seemed contented enough so much so that cautiously he slowly lowered himself back onto his haunches. His fluffy and well groomed tail curling neatly over his front paws, yet this was not visible below the thick green grass that ran up his sides. He was still sitting in the small patch of the meadow that he had flattened when he had fallen over.

At least now the pair of lone wolves had something in common. Also, just like Weldering, Marsh had been a part of a pack but now alas a loner. he could not help but sigh softly with a nod but there was no deeper meaning to his question. He was just trying to make conversation to fix the unmistakable dent in their first impression of one another. "I was in a pack too recently, it also didn't go to well. Other then that I've been alone near enough my whole life." He explained with a casual tone. "Hopefully we will both find someone and somewhere to be." And he also hoped that it would not be too long of a wait or that he would have to travel elsewhere. In an ideal world he wanted a home before the cruel winter arrived. "A home before winter... that's what I'm looking for." Speaking his thoughts out aloud now yet only then realising he did not know the strangers name. Yet the easiest way to get a name was to give one. "I'm Weldering Darksidy, nice to meet you..." Trailing off as he waited to hear what the other was dubbed.

For my own purposes... I'm setting this thread before all my others. EVAR. dun dun dun. :3

Alone for most of his life? How could he stand it? How could he even survive? It wasn't the loneliness, it was the reliability, the security, the knowledge that you had others to fight and hunt and run alongside. How can you ensure anything when you're by yourself, let alone your next meal?

Marsh noted idly the almost prissy manner with which the boy sat down, as if he were always so meticulous with his expressions and movements. So why trip over a sleeping wolf, eh? Obviously it was just a bad day.

At the kindly sentiment of the next words, however, Marsh was lightly taken aback. It would not have been his first thought to express such hope for mutual success - would he ever see this boy again? - but it was not an unhappy surprise. Though he still found it odd, Marsh dipped his head, as if to mirror the boy's sentiment. Did he care? Not really, but it was somewhat nice to pretend, and would make this encounter even less hostile.

Oh no - <i>winter</i>. It was so hard to think of such a cold, harsh time when the weather was like it was, but marsh could hardly deny that it was a fear which drove him also. So far in his life, Marsh had been alone for no winter. He was able to keep himself alive, but it wasn't by choice, and he hardly dared to think he would survive the more brutal of seasons. His skin wasn't that thick.

Ah - a question. Well, it wasn't a question, but Marsh recognised the set-up. It was one piece of subtle word-working that he actually knew how to react to. <b>"Marsh,"</b> he said, with unusual ease. Perhaps the unexpected camaraderie between them had helped. Something he had said was interesting, though; <b>"you... come - look for, for p-p-p-p, pack? Here?"</b> His tone made it clear; he wanted to know if Weldering had any specific purpose here, if he knew of any family nearby. Marsh hadn't smelt a whole pack for a while; did this land hold one? He would have to seek it out.

He had never said that being alone for most of his life was easy. The loneliness side to it until now he had been fortunate enough to live on a relatively small island considering the vast number of other wolves that loved there including four different packs. In the end he found a place but that was regrettable. But even then with a choice of four packs he had struggled to pick between them and now the choices were a lot slimmer with only Swift River (that he knew of at least).

Now on the topic of winter it might have been several months away, a quarter of a year, yet it was such an important time of year for a lone wolf and less so for a pack. They needed to start thinking about it now and also planning. As Marsh added his name the young black and silver brute dipped his maw, putting the alias to memory in case they ever did encounter one another again in the future. It did not seem too fool-hearty to think that the chances were high as both of them were searching for the same thing, somewhere to live. "Yeah kind of." He muttered back a little unsure of what he really wanted to do yet and so not entirely committed to his words. "But the only pack around here is Swift River and I do not wish to join it, it leaves me with very few options."

If he wasn't here looking for a pack, then what? Just passing by? If he had already met the locale - 'Swift River', though a name meant little to Marsh, he wanted a <i>scent</i> - then he had been here for a while. If not a few days, then no less than a day. Marsh was yet to find evidence of a pack, which meant that either this Weldering was travelling in the opposite direction or he truly was lingering about. Was he considering joining them? What kind of pack were they? Aah, too curious, but he didn't feel entirely comfortable simply asking for that type of knowledge. It was too unreliable. If there really was a family around here, Marsh would likely run into them before long.

Once again, though, some of Weldering's words had been interesting. <b>"T-t-t... few optionsss? What... to chh, chhhoose buh, beh, between?"</b> A loner had many decisions to make, it was true, but that was more of a setback than a luxury. Time spent making frivolous choices was time not spent being productive towrads your survival. Of course, Marsh could hardly judge; this had been the longest time he had spent alone so far in his entire life, and it was not because he had met no packs along the way. None had been right; one had been weak, and another entirely unwelcoming. Marsh needed a home, but more, he needed a figure to follow. There was a hole where his expectations were, his ability to make decisions, his morality compass. He didn't care about any of that; he just wanted to be told where to go.... but nobody had been quite right.

Weldering was totally unaware that Marsh was desperately searching for someone to follow, for Weldering it was becoming more and more apparent he did not want to end up following anyone at all. Last time he had been inside a pack he had claimed from the bottom up to Beta and still then he did not think the Alpha had been good enough. Even now the main reason why he did not want to join Swift River was again because of the Alpha. He was naturally quite a bold character and carefree meaning that he would only get himself into trouble while serving under anyone. Though with a strong head upon his shoulders and a sense of justice and good morals it did seem more logical that maybe leading a pack was something he would have a go at... sure perhaps if it failed then he would know for sure he was meant to be at best a Beta or even just a lone wolf.

Marsh now was wondering what these options were as he held his blue gaze upon him. "Options for a lone wolf..." He muttered buying himself a little more thinking time by repeating the question. "We can just go ahead a join Swift River whether we like it or not." Which Weldering was not going to do. "Wait for another pack to form." That was an option for Weldering but it depended on where it formed and whether he liked the Alpha or not, yeah he was fussy. "Stay a lone wolf." Which was his plan for now. "Or found your own pack." Which might be an idea to try in the future.

<blockquote><font style='margin-left:20px;'><b><i>WE DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE WELL UNLESS</i></b></font>
To list them, to make it sound so simple, so tick-a-box, it was... Marsh felt faintly revolted. To be fair, he had asked the question, and here was the answer. He had only asked because he would not have been able to answer it himself; the very idea of vocalising such a basic instinct was... well, it was revolting.

Was this how these mind-wolves thought? Rationalising and compartmentalising their lives as if they were no more complex than... Marsh couldn't think of an example. Everything was complex. Everything had a reason. To read aloud the deepest requirements of your existence, of a lonely existence, made it very hard to take seriously.

Just pick a box, any box.

Marsh had had enough. He was sure this Weldering had things to do, choices to make, philosophies to ponder, but Marsh had stuff to be getting on with. Life stuff. He was sure neither of them wanted to waste the other's time more than necessary - and they were not enemies, they had no reason to waste each other's time at all - and Weldering had clearly been on his way somewhere when he had tripped Marsh over.

Marsh, meanwhile, had spent far too much time sleeping in the sun, and now would have to be productive to make up for it.

Having never sat down, Marsh could not demonstrate his desire to leave by standing. Instead, he took a step back, and dipped his head. Options indeed. <b>"G-g-g-<i>oodluck</i>... with, with yuh, your choice."</b> If he chose to stick around, maybe they'd bump into each other one day. We'd see which box Weldering chose! Careful not to startle - they didn't need a repeat of their introduction - Marsh returned to the shade of the woodland, leaving this warm, dangerous glade behind.

The options were obvious but every so often maybe they were needed to be spelt out as reminders to help you chose. But already he had made up his mind, he would not serve under Indru visualising it as a sort of personal hell. The pair were a personality clash and a disaster waiting to happen, he was doing the honorable thing by trying to avoid the Tainn Alphen to avoid trouble. As Wekdering continued to set his icy blue gaze upon Marsh it was not apparent or not whether these options had helped the other lone male decide what to do. It looked like he had not helped at all and now he was leaving with something better to do then waste time talking.

Respecting Marsh's wish to leave he also dipped his own maw back with his own farewell in silence before replying to the other as he left. "You too Marsh, goodluck." Watching alertly as the other lone wolf disappeared into the foliage of the surrounding woodland before he too made his own absquatulate out of the glade and back towards the forest.
