It's Time to Begin, Isn't It...

Blaze padded down the from the mountains, his breathing was rasping, but as he reached the lower altitudes, his breathing evened out. His eyes darted from side to side in distrust. He seemed to distrust everything, everyone now-a-days. He had no reason not too. His hated Josh, if Josh had just fought he'd be back in the pack as second under his parents. But Josh had to back down. Blaze was taught never to back down so Blaze took it as a trick. But it was no trick. Blaze had it figured out, Josh taught him that, so that when the challenge came and he backed down, Josh would died. Josh had been rather old and was saying how he wasn't his old fighting self before the challenge. He must have decided if he was going down, Blaze was going with him. His honor stripped from him.

His eyes darted at a familiar scent. A vole, the food he ate kept him alive. He'd been so hot-headed and mad recently he had had no luck with the prey. He crouched down, his tail folded under him and tight to his belly as he stalked it carefully. He raced then for it, the snow crunching slightly as he leapt at it and landed on it. It's neck held down by it's paws. A successful hut, perfect, he needed the food. He put it out of it's misery with a bite to the neck. He sat down eating his scrumptious prey. He noticed some herbs nearby. The arts of balsamaceous had never interested him. but they sure did help when he was injured in a fight.

He continued eating, his eyes watching for any wolves that dared come near him. His nose smelling for any predators. Lastly, his ears perked up in attention, listening for someone who was brave enough to brave the bad stormy weather of the foothills that led up to the dark and secretive mountain.

(I saw that this was still lonely and decided to jump in! I hope that you don't mind...if so, I can always delete it. :P

Steel was wandering southward, despite the weather. His need to be on the move had finally caught up with him and he was taking a break from the endless border patrols of Poison Path. This was only one of the many reasons he'd avoided joining a pack. He was a loner at heart, a wanderer and he craved nothing more than peace and quite, away from the drama that came with packs. Athena had somehow reached through all of that and he dedicated himself to another wolf for the first time in his life. He would honor their agreement and protect her borders, but that didn't alleviate the fact that he was stir -crazy and needed to get away for a while. She would just have to accept that part of him.

So he headed southwards, rather than his usual northwards. The last time he'd gone north, Athena had been caught in a landslide and he'd shredded his paws in an attempt to help her. In the end, he'd been too slow and Ava had done the rescuing, but he'd done his duty. Knowing that others of his 'family' had a penchant for the rugged mountains, he headed in exactly the opposite direction, towards Riddle Heights. He rarely partook of the pack caches, yet he'd eaten well recently, and was content as he traveled through the rugged terrain. His paws were well healed and quite tough by now. His formidable strength and stamina had only been enhanced by life in the foothills and he felt his thick muscles rippling beneath his pelt with satisfaction. Not in vanity, merely in the sure knowledge that he could handle anything that life threw his way.

The burly black and white wolf came to full alert as he scented another wolf on the crisp breeze. He was not anywhere near the pack borders, so Steel felt no inclination to bother him, as long as the other let him be. He soon caught sight of a ruddy wolf enjoying a treat and cautiously looking around. Steel grunted to himself and prepared to skirt around the other male. He would wish to be left alone and so he planned to let the male eat in peace. As he moved to the right a dry branch snapped beneath his paw and his stormy blue gaze whipped around to the male to gauge his reaction. If he hadn't heard or didn't react, Steel would continue, but he knew better than to turn his back on a potential threat

Blaze looked ahead in a slightly amused way. He'd come near a wolf, larger and seemingly silent. "What do you want?" He snapped at him, he was in an irritated mood. He just wanted to get out of the mountains he hated so much. He needed to get to a forest, a forest he could live in. But he would never be able to live in a mountain. He just wouldn't be able to cope with it or adjust with it. He looked up to the sun high in the sky. It was around noon, the warmest time of day, even in the dark mountains. It made him shiver. Winter was fast approaching and he'd seen snow a while back. He needed to get away from the mountains soon.

He started to walk away from the wolf, not giving him a chance to respond to his question. If the wolf really cared, he would follow him. If he was smarter, he'd keep his distance, the last thing Blaze needed was a wolf to talk to. He needed solitary confinement and much of the sorts. This wolf was just irritatingly there in silence. He hated wolves who showed up places just to be silent. It drove him crazy! It reminded him of the silent guardian in his old pack, his birth pack. Joshua was the evil one, the silent guardian that would forever haunt his dreams. That silent guardian ruined his life now he'd ruin everybody else's.

Steel had been completely prepared to ignore the wolf that he'd come upon by chance. He could appreciate wanting to be alone and he was in no hurry to interact with anyone. His favorite times were spent in complete solitude. Rarely was he not in a foul mood around others, even those of his own pack. All of his good intentions went out the door when the stranger snapped rudely at him and then turned his back, as if Steel weren't even worth waiting for an answer from. The other male was apparently in a mood and now so was Steel.

Why should he bring his own irritation back to his pack, who hadn't earned it, when this man had? Suddenly, Steel wanted a fight. Something to release his pent up tension. The thought of letting his long white fangs have their fill of ripping and shredding at something was highly appealing. Not caring much for words, the burly black and white wolf's actions spoke louder. His hackles raised and his stormy blue eyes darkened to nearly black in his fury. A bone chilling snarl escaped his maw between dripping fangs as he stepped forward in challenge. Yes... a good scrap would be just the thing to relieve his own pent up anger and tension...
