( SOOO sorry I haven't replied.)

As she watched two of the most favored males in her life, she backed away cautiously, not daring to overcome her second. As much as she wanted to turn away, her eyes remained glued on the scene before her. They were fighting…or well, Burn was fighting. At that moment things started clicking silently in her brain. That was who Hotei was acting like right now, and he had barely registered his own name. She was still confused though, she didn’t even fully understand it…but she knew this wasn’t the Hotei she knew. Wouldn’t he have submitted to Ice the first time? Though looking back, Hotei had refused to submit to her a countless number of times, as well as Ice. Her heart slowly started increasing, fear of what she had gotten into clear in her emerald eyes. She simply didn’t understand…what was going on? She hadn’t expected anything to get too physical, for she was sure that the black burned male had common sense, the automatic instinct of the lower wolves within the pack, but that would not seem the case.

More growling occurred, none f it registered to Jessie’s ears though. She was too busy concentrating on what was going on, trying to somehow make sense of the mayhem. She had known that the Rhysis freak and Marsh had gone to fight it out, and Jessie knew that Marsh could take care of himself, but the urge to go with him was strong, but even she knew her place. Life seemed to finally come back to her brain when a leap from Ice left her mouth slightly ajar, her head wanting to pull her eyes away from the scene but stubbornly still staying right in sync with each one of their movements. Her muscles tensed, not wanting to hurt her friend, but she knew she would have no point, she was ready to leap on Hotei if he made any sudden movement. She knew her heart and brain was screaming at her not to do it, but she knew she might have to.

Hotei Tainn
Pissed off at everything happening around him Burn growls softly in annoyance. He didn't give a damn about whether Ice liked him or not, nor what the white wolf had to say about his scolding of Jessie. Plus everyone kept calling him Hotei. What was with that? Hadn't he already told Jessie to call him Burn?

None of this shit is making sense anymore. Fighting here is stupid. They hadn't come all the way out here to fight each other. As Ice advanced further Burn dropped his gaze and lowered his head and tail showing a clear sign of submission. However when the white wolf tried to snap around his muzzle Burn snarled a warning and jerked his head away while taking a few steps back. Lowering himself further, belly touching the ground and ears held back the burned man submitted to the white wolf. I swear if he tries to grab my muzzle I'm gonna tear his face off... Burn twisted his head showing the soft fur of his neck to Ice.

"and my name is Burn, NOT Hotei...." He added slowly still averting his burning gaze from Ice.

OOC: Don't want him to get into a fight right now if that's okay..

( sorry for the wait and crap. :/ but I think it should be ready to be wrapped up in a few posts? )

It didn't quite play out the way he'd wanted it - he wasn't awarded with the sweet satisfaction of holding the black wolf's muzzle between his jaws, but something of the intended effect came through. Hotei seemed to finally realize that pleasing Ice was the best way to live a long, healthy life, and began to lower himself. Still showing all his teeth, Ice gave the dark wolf a few seconds to settle himself against the ground; his own tail was raised high, and a low growl still echoed in his chest, threatening to break out should Hotei just look the wrong way. Stiffly Ice lowered his head, aiming to touch his black nose to the side of Hotei's exposed neck. "I don't care about your name," he growled, hot breath spilling out on black fur. Slowly he took his head up again, but remained standing more or less above Hotei; he could stay on the ground until Marsh came back. Ice wanted him to stay down, so he'd damn well better do it. Still riled up and tense, he scanned the forest for signs of Marsh; he could hear the noises of the scuffle, but hoped to see his copper face come out of the trees soon. Briefly, he let his gaze focus on Jessie, trying to give her a reassuring look, but it was hard, considering his own state of mind. Giving up on that, he let his silver eyes return to watching the forest - waiting, watching.

Victory was a familiar sweet. Rhysis had been powerful, had been formidable, and though Marsh had not believed in his own defeat, that did not mean that it had not crossed his mind. Superficially, his downfall would not have meant anything; Ice, Hotei and Jessie would have destroyed Rhysis with ease, especially after Marsh had softened him up. Right then, Rhysis was no threat in and of himself, but he was the yardstick with which Marsh was using to test himself. After all, if he could not fend off this threat, would he be able to protect the pack from the next one? Was he unqualified to play the part of leader not just diplomatically but also physically? He could not allow Swift River to gain such a reputation. He would sooner die.

The notion of his own death, in those moments, also occurred to him. After all, Rhysis was a fierce foe who Marsh doubted would be merciful, just as Marsh was not merciful. Even as they had fought, Marsh had decided that he would have to either win - or he would have to die. That way, he either remained as a symbol of strength, or his unworthiness was shone out and somebody would be forced to take his place, to do better. He would not have to limp on, pretending.

None of that had to happen. Rhysis took a misstep, and Rhysis fell. Triumphant, Marsh had stood at the top and watched something strange happen to the black wolf, not that he cared; the message was sent, and Rhysis turned to flee just in time; any longer, and Marsh would have descended for the kill. The message was sent. If Rhysis was wise, he would not return, and for his part, Marsh would not seek him out again.

It was time to get back to the others. His limbs ached with a twinned need to rest and to carry on, for there was nothing so enervating as the clash of two powers. For the first time, however, he felt his years in his bones, and could recognise that he was fortunate that Rhysis had fallen when he did. The outcome may have been very different otherwise. Still, he had won, there was no doubt, and when he made his way back to the trio it was with an air of triumph; he had proven himself, had he not? Maybe this would make things easier, if only for himself. He had long given up hope of being a leader like Corinna, but at least he was a capable protector.

The sight that greeted him was not the celebration he needed. If possible, things were tenser here than they had been between him and Rhysis, and they had been at each other's throats - whatever was going on here would have to stop.

Unfortunately for Hotei, he was the weak link, for Ice and Jessie were trusted enough to earn Marsh's benefit of the doubt. It did not help that he was crouched on the floor, either. Dashed with wounds and the blood of himself and his enemy, his reddened teeth bearing witness to his victory, he snapped harshly at the black Tainn, meaning to send another message - that of warning. Whatever had happened here, he did not want to know of it again. Panting and bleeding, he would stare hard at each of the three, wanting admission of his victory and to see whether he could garner any clues as to what had happened in his absence. He could smell the anger on Ice and Hotei both, and the tension on Jessie, but right then, he did not care. It was as simple as friend or foe. So what were they?

Bord now as he lay under the white snowballs gaze Burn kept his submissive pose for however long he would have to wait. Then Marsh, battered and bruised came towards them eyeing Burn suspiciously and threateningly. Avoiding the gray wolfs eyes as he should the burned male was forced to continue keeping his cowaring body position.

Though Burn had wanted to be the one to beat up the regal black idiot, he had to respect the fact that Marsh had defeated him.

So he waited, not flinching at Marsh's warning but calmly lowering his head further into the ground. He had no real quarrel with the second. If their positions were switched he'd be doing the exact same thing. So he waited some more for someone to relent and decide to head back home. "Nice job with the black idiot sir Marsh..." He continued to avoid his eyes but directed the compliment towards the rusted male still glaring down at him.

She watched in sadness as her two friends fought, her anger that was building up within her, dispersing quickly. She didn’t need to piss Ice off…it would not be a wise move on her part. She didn’t need any enemies within the pack and Ice was her companion though…perhaps even her best friend and she didn’t want any trust issues arising within them. Hotei was quick to submit, but when he spoke, her heart stopped cold. Burn…that name. Confusion fitted deep in her emerald gaze as she stared at the scarred male. Something odd was going on, but even the younger Swiftpaw knew that now was not the time to be asking questions, they were all pack mates here. With Ice’s glance towards her, she gratefully smiled at him, before turning her body towards the direction of the noisy fighting.

When Marsh arrived Jess dipped her head to him, approaching him, submitting to him. He had taken the nasty bastard down and that was enough for Jessie to think of him in high regards, even though she already did. She quietly brushed her muzzle again his cheek and whispered, only for him to hear, "Hotei is not yet to be trusted." She then pulled away, hurt obvious in her eyes. If she was admitting this, then Marsh had to know she was being serious. She then turned, next to his side, her poker face in play as she waited on her two other pack mates to join them, so that they could all go home. Marsh needed to rest.

you do not know who is your friend
or who is your enemy
until the ICE breaks.
At least Hotei stayed on the floor, and Ice kept a stiff watch over him, growling in warning at him each time he so much as twitched. He'd stay there, until Marsh came back, or else... His silver eyes kept picking the forest for signs of auburn, the flash of sunlight on copper fur, and eventually he returned to them, covered in the blood of Rhysis and smelling of victory. His own pale tail rose as he ducked his head in acknowledgment of his defeat, but still too riled up to wag at him. Hotei's voice elicited another growl out of him as he padded over to greet Marsh after Jessie had; he slid his own muzzle beneath his lower jaw, and gave the corner of his mouth a gentle lick before stepping back. While his silver gaze kept returning to the black wolf every so often, he kept looking in the direction of home, waiting for them to go. He did not want to be out here any longer.
