Inkheart
<b style="font-size:12px; font-family:georgia;">The last year that he had spent in the ruins of wildwood had been a particularly wild one but to him, it was simply just the path nature took. Having been so accustomed to the route of a lonely wolf and getting by with just himself, Ink didn’t really know what it felt like to lose your home to a wildfire. Not once had he ever become attached to place long enough to call it ‘home’ or even a ‘temporary place of rest’—to him, nothing ever fit him and he had never had a reason to stay somewhere. Although he did have a few places he visited more than once a week, Inkheart never came back to the same den two nights in a row.

The tare of one particular log den had become so heavy that the bottom was beginning to break into pieces to where there wasn’t even a bottom anymore and the ground had become its floor. That was the only time he had ever had to find somewhere to hide away for the night but he never did fret—a soldier like him stayed calm in all situations and even when there was that ounce of fear, he just did the best he could and handled it with his confidence. That might have been why he simply didn’t do well with other wolves, Inkheart didn’t adjust to those who couldn’t easily read his emotions because he couldn’t readily tell them what he was feeling. Nor did he ever explain what he was thinking.

Nonetheless, the Sacred Grove in which he patiently stood hidden in to find the perfect deer was enough to satisfy his entire day’s routine. There were times when one might have committed a suicide because of how dull and boring his life was, but being a lone wolf certainly gave him his advantages—he could do wild and crazy stunts without anyone bothering to tell him that he could hurt himself or even kill himself. More importantly, he didn’t have anybody to tell him that he was living his entire life the wrong way.

Sojourn Ranger Aquila
Ranger's life up until now had been one of pain, hatred, and discrimination. She was not used to being calm yet, to being polite and feminine, but she was learning. It was hard to tear herself away from what she had known for two years, but she was desperately trying. She had somehow found her way into this vast forest without even knowing it, and although she needed to get further still from her other pack, she was intrigued. The way the trees moved in the breeze, the green foggy atmosphere that gathered beneath the canopy, intrigued her. The <span class='word'>piquant</span> forest held some allure for her, and she wanted to explore.

Up ahead there was a dark male, large and muscular, facing away from her. At first she thought it was her brother, and her heart picked up. But after watching him for a few more minutes as she walked, Ranger realized that this male was not her brother. His stance was too masculine, too hard, for it to be her soft brother. She took a breath and let it out in a loud chuff, hoping to gain his attention without making too much noise or startling him. He looked like he was concentrating really hard on something; maybe he was hunting. Whatever he was doing, Ranger didn't want to startle him, so she kept her distance still, though she stopped level with him in the dense undergrowth. She was knew here, and he seemed to be too, by the scent of things. He didn't smell like either of the packs here, so she assumed he was either extremely new or a loner, like herself.

<b style="font-size:12px; font-family:georgia;"> No matter how hard the orange-eyed brute tried he hadn’t shown a bit of happy emotions in months. There was just nothing in him that sparked the slightest notion that he was happy, content or even alright with the moment. There seemed to always be a sour look on his face—something that he had most certainly come to accept. Ink didn’t want to be in a pack because that meant he was lower than somebody—he didn’t like to be lower and thus only took what he could and ran with it. So, the other lone wolf was indescribably lucky that a deer had yet to pop into his line of vision otherwise he would have snapped at the woman and he immediately told her to fuck off.
However, he only turned his muzzle very slowly to look at her with dull, unyielding eyes. The female was piquant but the black feather hardly noticed thanks to his will to never get attached to anyone. His expression towards her wasn’t necessarily welcoming but it was enough to show her that she could come have a chat with him if that was what she wanted he wouldn’t turn down a conversation. Although, he couldn’t promise that it’d be the least bit stimulating.

Sojourn Ranger Aquila
Ranger was lucky that this male was so stoic. They shared that trait, and whether it was good or bad, it was how they were. Ranger did have moments, however, glimpses into a more emotional side of her. It was usually when she was unusually angry at someone. Ranger could hold a lot of anger inside and nobody would be wiser, until one day she would simply snap and she'd throw everything she ever thought of the wolf and throw it in their face. It didn't happen very often, as she usually resorted to fights first, but it had happened before. It hadn't been pretty, either.

The black female nodded her head, noticing his orange eyes piercing into her. He didn't seem to want company, but he also didn't yell at her or growl to make her leave. Ranger took this as a good sign, or at least an invitation to stay, so she seated herself and looked toward the prairie in front of them. The scent of deer drifted down toward them and she crouched low, her ears and eyes alert for any sign or sound of them. <b>"Would you like my help bringing down some prey?"</b> she asked softly. Ranger did not say this in a derogatory way, as if he needed help, nor did she offer it too lightly. She simply wanted to know if she could share in his kill and therefore have something to eat for a few days. Plus, this was a good way to get to know another loner in this land.

<b style="font-size:12px; font-family:georgia;"> Whatever moments that Ranger had, Inkheart hadn’t experienced in just over a year—he had no reason to be angry because no one gave him a reason. It probably didn’t do him very well considering he kept most of his thoughts buried inside of his mind but usually he just kept his mind on a day-to-day pattern. Talking to Ranger just simply didn’t seem like a very interesting thing to do with the next few minutes thus made him that much more accepting that she offering to assist him in cooking some food. Help? No, he didn’t really want ‘help’ but he wouldn’t mind someone else carrying the other weight to kill.
Inkheart nodded his head to accept her offer before turning his head to the sound of rustling in the background. As luck would have it, a miniature doe appear just a good five meters away from—it was as if the doe was deaf and hadn’t heard the unexperienced wolf talking (his point of view: you couldn’t begin a hunt if you talked). So he motioned his muzzle towards the deer and waited until it lowered its head to a nice patch of grass before he created a ruction in the Sacred Grove just so he could chase the deer around.

Sojourn Ranger Aquila
Ranger took the nod as consent, and immediately she settled down further into the grass in stealth mode. Her piercing gold eyes searched the area for any signs of movement. The deer here were small, at the least the one that had just wandered into view. The dark male motioned toward it and she nodded very slightly, letting him know she saw it. She'd wait for his signal, and then would give chase. She had not hunted with another in many months, but she was sure that it would go well. So Ranger waited patiently for his signal, breathing shallowly and tensing her muscles for a quick flight toward her prey.

The deer lowered its head and immediately the dark wolf beside her gave chase. The startled doe lifted her head in alarm, her nostrils flaring, and then dashed away. Chuckling lowly, Ranger dashed off after the doe and her partner, her long legs allowing her to cover long distances in less time. She pushed her muscles harder, faster, and got on the opposite side of the doe that the male was running. They had it pinned between them as they ran between trees and rocks, but she waited for him to either pounce, or give her the go-ahead to do so.

<b style="font-size:12px; font-family:georgia;"> The doe immediately picked its head up in surprise and quickly darted off away from the two predators closing it in. Saliva built up within Ink’s mouth as she drew closer and closer to the brown flesh and while rushing to go and get it, had completely forgotten he had a partner with him. It was only him and the doe (and with the other wolf invisible to his eyes) and it just happened to be staying close to him instead of splitting off. Suddenly the doe attempted to jerk elsewhere around a large boulder which left Inkheart with enough space that he sprang into the air and grabbed onto the deer’s neck and brought it down to the ground without effort.

Growling he began to tug at the deer’s neck before it went limp next to him so Ink quickly picked himself back up to see Ranger. Ah, yeah—the hunting companion. If it hadn’t been for her then the chase would have gone on for a lot longer but he didn’t really have it in him to thank her for it so, he just bent his head over the deer and begun to eat. After chewing a good piece he motioned for her to come over and join in for the meal and considering that friendliness, it was Ink’s version of showing him his thanks.

Sojourn Ranger Aquila
Ranger ran parallel to the black male and watched as he pounced on the doe. He broke its neck and began to feast. Ranger slowed her run and circled back around to the meal, though she waited for his nod of consent to begin eating. Once he let her eat, she began to tear bits of meat from the flank, trying to keep as far from the other as possible. She didn't want to anger him or be told to leave, especially since this was her first kill in this new land. Perhaps one day she would be able to join a pack and lend her skills to others, but for now it was her and this male, sharing a meal.

Inkheart
At first, it felt weird to have someone eating a meal beside him and happily tugging and pulling at the meat but after a while he became more accustomed to it. After being such a lonely, one-teamed member he wasn't so welcome to the idea of help or even being a tag-team. There were things that he just didn't know how to adjust to and this was one of those moments. Though he did favor the fact that Ranger wasn't a flap-mouthed talker and the skills she had used in order to take down the doe. That was a plus for Inkheart who immediately trashed whoever tried to make stupid idle conversation to fill up precious time. So, after he had pretty finished his share a loud, ugly <i>burp</i> escaped his mouth but there was no excuse me necessary. However, his orange eyes did look to Ranger to wait for her to finish up so they could dispose of the remains.
