For {Loath} <3

Sorry for the long wait Eoran! I've been extremely busy and haven't had much muse.

54 ° F, 12 ° C, Partly Cloudy - early morning

Another morning, another border patrol. For the past few days, Kieth had been constantly checking the border and remarking. It was tiring and boring, but he knew that he was doing good for his pack. There was also the odd chance of catching a morsel to fill up the pack's food cache, which was constantly eaten by his silver queen: Narimé. She was expecting pups, and was always hungry. But he didn't mind, it always made him feel good to provide and care for his pack.

Looking around, the grey male saw the familiar lake in the distance. Every morning he always went past the lake, and usually stopped for a quick drink to quench his thirst. Padding along the border at a slow trot, Kieth made his way to the lake and stared down at his reflection. His multicoloured fur was slightly ruffled, but still clean and groomed, his pale grey eyes were bright and alert even though the sun had barely risen, and he could see well-defined muscles under his coat. All in all, he was in pretty good shape.

Bending his neck downwards to the water's surface, he dipped his white muzzle into the water and drank deeply, letting the cool liquid sooth his parched throat. Once his thirst was sated, the grey male lifted his muzzle out of the water and stared momentarily at his reflection before backing away from the water's edge. He had spent enough time at the lake, and it was now time to continue on the border patrol. Breaking into a slow trot, he made his way back to the border and padded along its edge, marking here and there and looking out for danger.

Looking out for danger was an impossible task in the presence of those superior creatures of an imaginable heaven between ever land and being. The mind would conquer and overrule every physical obstacle for it was within worlds of immortals and the imagination of the mortals could not reach it. Like a treasure it was mapped out in the mind of the superior creature of life, it was marked with the X of every treasure map but it could not be found or stolen, it could not be taken from those superior for it was lying so deep within that no outsider could ever imagine this treasure, so even if they saw it they would be blind to it. They could never come to understand the beauty and association within this beauty. It would be like holding a diamond up under their nose and all they would see would be a rock. Lost to beauty, lost to power they would forever wander to look for leadership and power in others or strive to darkness to strangle those with power, hoping to achieve something unknown to even them.

Such white superiority was walking in this heavenly lagoon. An Eden they said, but he knew better than to call this Eden or heaven, it was no such thing for he had seen Eden of his creation, he had placed it on earth and he had granted it every beauty it could withhold on earth and he had opened the eyes of the mortals. They could not compare and they could never understand for true Eden was hidden over mountain and steep canyons, so far from reach now, but never forgotten, placed in his treasure map he could find his way back should he want to, but he had no such wish for he was looking for his priceless treasure in this unknown land. Nena had been ripped from his arms, his grip and heart and he would walk through any hell or heathen land to find her. He would kill to bring her back. There would be no end to his walk and search he would die before he settled without her.

A lake was slithering through the landscape of this earth and he had followed it for some time and as he hit a strong scent of pack and wolves he went around to avoid trespassing it, but he followed the lake as well as he could around the territory, his eyes searching the darkness of the night and he never stopped to rest so dawn came behind him in the east, licking his blinding white fur and running through every facet of red and orange over his, glorifying his fur and enlighten every straw of his fur, his hard orange eyes standing against the color like a painting. His light brown nose only underlined his odd look in this area. White wolves were often called artic wolves by sight, but he was obviously no artic wolf, his fur was too lean and smooth against his body, he was too large, his general build was not made for the land of constant snow even if he had many times before withstood winters more gracefully than others.

The air around him tingled with power and authority, the strongest aura he had amongst many, the reason why 70 wolves had been under his command, the lightening route to his superior being, the reason he had been alpha for so many years, the reason he had fathered more children than most could on a life time. He was power and every meaning of the word, his word was law, most did his bidding when he timed it perfectly, and he was no corrupt power monger but ultimate definition of crucial power. His paws stepped into the water of the lake and the cold reached toes, surrounded every paw pad and iced up against his fur and legs. He leaned over and drank gracefully from the lake before lifting his head, aware. His light brown nose moved slightly and he caught the scent of wolf. He walked out of the edge of the lake and slowly he walked, making no sound.

A grey wolf stood nearby but it was turning to leave. Loath made no motion to make himself seen or heard, he was not on the border of this nearby pack, but this wolf clearly was. He started trotting away from the lake and Loath waited for him to be seen, but the other wolf was turning and leaving. Loath followed and while the other wolf trotted, Loath took simple long strides to keep up and keep eyes and ears glued to him. Loath assessed the situation, looked over the other wolf and finally deciding that should the other attack it would only result in a huge power display from the undefeated white god. He stopped and with a loud snap from his tongue he made himself seen. He quit following him and stood, challenging and empowered, awaiting every tone of the situation. The god was no to be taken lightly and should the other make such mistake he would be taught well.

Never underestimate a God. The god.

My post looks so short and crappy compared to yours....

It seemed that even though he had been looking out for danger, he hadn't looked hard enough. Kieth had scented Loath just before a resounding snap reached his ears and he spun around to face the white male; standing stiff legged and tall, hackles bristling, ears erect and forward and his tail curled up toward his back. The grey male normally wouldn't act this way, but the large white male had caught him off guard, and he was standing way too close to his borders for comfort, especially when his silver queen was close to birthing.

Kieth took note of the large white male's posture, which almost surprised him. He just stood there, proud and tall, showing no sign of submission; as if seeming to challenge him. A low growl rumbled in his chest, threatening to escape his maw. No one would challenge him on his own borders, but he wouldn't fight him. No, that would just end with him on the ground and the white wolf victorious. Instead of fighting, he would use words, see what the white male wanted first, and then if needed, he would use physical force.

Looking directly into the white male's orange eyes with his own pale grey eyes, he let the growl subside in his chest before opening his jaws to speak, clearly stating that Loath was going to answer him with a truthful answer, or else. "You are standing quite close to my borders." He kept the fact that his silver queen was heavily pregnant and close to birthing to himself, not wanting the white male to know. "Who are you and what is it that you want?" His last words were laced with clear suspicion, accompanied with the pulling back of his light grey ears and a slight narrowing of his pale grey eyes. The white male had seemingly come from nowhere, and didn't look like he needed anything, but you could never know. Standing straight and proud, Kieth stared at the white wolf, daring him to speak.

Loath
The other male spun around, his tail high and bristles rose everything about him was signing for an attack or at least the brink of one. He had definitely surprised this grey wolf and Loath moved no closer and didn’t change his position at all. His eyes locked on to this scared little sheep and he could see just how close the other one was to growling at him. Should he even dare making that step Loath would be on and over him to beat him to submission. He should probably do it cause he even thought about it, it was a daring move of this guard, patrolling the border and acting like every stranger was out to kill him even though he had come up to him this obviously and made himself heard and scented without attempting to sneak up on him. He hadn’t jumped on him, he hadn’t snarled or growled or even placed himself in a challenging position yet this male seemed to think differently. Paranoia was a general conception of this place and he was growing completely tired of it, he was impatient now. Wherever he went the same paranoid wolves would roam and yell and throw a fist about something Loath didn’t do or had attempted to do in a long time.

So this was the last drop, that little grain that made the entire weight break and shift into a stage of vicious annoyance, of impatience and a simple urge to do something different for once, to be tired of seeing the same over and over again no matter what land he went to, no matter who he met they did and said the same, he was sick of it. "Who are-“ And that was as far as he would be allowed to go with that sentence. Loath stormed forward to the grey wolf and would attempt to knock his body weight into the other wolf’s chest. Should he hit and tumble off the other wolf he would end it there and just stretch his muscles and legs with a relaxed sigh. Should he miss he would try and snap after the other wolf’s right front leg and pull it away under him, again send him tumbling to the ground. There was no real harm in what he tried to do here but expect make the other wolf stop his shit talk and lie down on the ground. Once/if the other one was on the ground by either of the attacks Loath would stand just as relaxed as before.

”Be quiet boy.” There was no yell or irritation in his voice, it was more a request than a demand really but it did have the undertone of “do not defy me or I will make it worse for you” he waited and sincerely hoped for the youngster to be quiet already, Loath took a moment to enjoy the silence between them before he sat down and without displaying any other emotion from before he would finally speak. ”Don’t come to a stranger like you own this free land. I have not crossed your border, I am free where I walk and sit, do not be mistaken of that.” It served as a general good advice to this wolf, for other strangers might not be as kind as the white god. ” I am Lāth of the far west, alpha of the largest pack on the other side of the high mountains. Now. Who are you?” Formal introductions were in place when one had first raised question toward a free wolf and then the free wolf had/or at least attempted to knock the other one over. So the question was, who was this person who thought he could command a white god of the west?

Loath had owned land before, he had walked borders before and he had accepted and denied people before, killed for less than the crime this wolf made right now by insulting him, acting as if his very presence was unwanted even if he walked free land that did not belong to this man. He seemed to think he could boss someone around who had worked and lived his entire life on power, who had controlled over 70 wolves to his very command, lead wars, politics and restrained revolutions to simple nothingness. Nothing and no one could threaten this white man and this wolf would be no different for he held no real power here. He didn’t even own the border as far as he could scent on him, he was just a simple guard and Loath wasn’t going to get pushed around by an itty little guard. He had taken down a lion in his past life, he had defeated three wolves on his own, he had looked the blackblood of the south directly in the eyes, standing over four feet tall as they charged toward him and he had bend and shaped, attacked and witted, and he had taken the beast down. He was undefeated in many ways and battles were one of them, this wolf would regret going into combat with the white god.

Blessed was he indeed and Loath knew he stood no chance toward him, so he did not charge him, simply to let him live. These small packs out here were no real threat to him and he regarded them as nothing. Had they come from the west where he had once lived and ruled he would have ruled over them by now. He would expect a great deal of respect from this grey wolf. Or he would have to come out and play.

Kieth was so surprised at the large, white males' sudden lunge forward that he didn't react. He barely had time to blink before the white male knocked his body weight into Kieth's chest, sending him tumbling to the ground. From the position on his side, Kieth heard the white male speak. There was no irritation or anger in his voice, it was more of a request. But as the words filtered through his mind, one word stood out from the rest.

Boy.

How dare he call him boy! From what he could see, they were both around the same age, while he could possibly be older than him, and yet he had the nerve to call him boy. But he didn't snarl or growl, the only thing that changed was the slight bristling of his ruff. Rolling onto his stomach, the grey male sat on his haunches, staring at the white male. There was a few moments of silence before he sat down opposite of Kieth, displaying no recognisable emotion on either his face, or body language.

The grey male listened as the orange-eyed male spoke, nodding ever so slightly. He shouldn't have overreacted like that, but he had gotten a surprise when the white male announced his presence suddenly, and his silver queen being so close to birthing was making him even more defensive than he should be. But he wouldn't apologize, no, that would only show weakness to the white male, who he could clearly see would show no remorse if he did.

As the white male introduced himself as Lāth, Kieth could hear that the name did not roll off his tongue as clearly as it would if it was his own. But if the white male didn't want to tell him his true name, he wouldn't ask or beg for it. When Lāth asked him what his own name was, the grey male looked directly into his eyes as he spoke. "I am Kieth Tatum, second under Sloane Thorben." Although he wasn't technically second, he was the second ranked male in the pack, but Lāth didn't need to know that.

His hackles were barely raised, he still didn't trust this wolf, and wouldn't until he knew what he wanted. His ears were pulled back a bit, showing his suspicion as he spoke, though it wasn't in a kind or harsh tone, it was more neutral. "What is it that you want?"

Loath
Self-prejudice of high standard was it? Loath saw the other watch him, calm himself and sit up as well. Neither of the two was looking for a fight against one another, which was just a well, Loath didn’t need one at this point and he wasn’t going to be interested in one. He had enough on his plate at this point and it was absolutely pointless to think that anyone could go against him, think of it or even attempt it – not only that he was tired. He had been looking for his sister for too long, his entire family gone his children would be alright by now all grown up and taught well, but his sister? She wasn’t supposed to leave the nest she wasn’t supposed to be anywhere else. She belonged next to him and nothing could change that – inseparable by a clinging birth and the way they had fought for their life – together. Nothing could move them or change them from one another. How could he continue to breathe and live when she was not near him? How could he even imagine, work out this new world, claim it and restore power when she wasn’t there to hold him?

She was his life and her life was his, they walked as one, they would breathe as one, they had done everything as the same and one being for so long that doing any differently would be outrageous to either one of them. The simplest task was not for one being but them both, they knew the same, they thought and talked the same, they were twins as much as it was possible to be so and Loath knew within himself that she was out there and she was waiting for him to find her. She had to be found and he would. Soon. All he needed was a scent, a small peak of the right white fur, her eyes and he would be on to her, follow her to the world’s end. He licked his lips in concentration of these thoughts and this entire thinking process before shifting his weight on to his left side, simply feeling tired and outweigh from the source of walking and running, hunting and fending for his own. Life outside of a pack was hard and even harder when you were searching for your sister. He hadn’t joined a pack simply because no one would lead him and because how would he look for her if he was stuck?

"I am Kieth Tatum, second under Sloane Thorben." Hmm. Second he said? Loath’s eyes narrowed and one of his eyebrows then went up. Really? Him? Alright, fair enough seeing what collection the leader had to pick from he could believe this one was a second. For now. Was he willing to prove that though? What an ordinarily good question after all, maybe he had no courage or was a hidden courage bomb waiting to explode. ”A second? Intriguing. Where I come from and lead it was custom to prove your courage, strength and loyalty in one simple and short test. Would you feel up for that, Kieth Tatum, second under Sloane Thorben?” Or are you a coward like the rest of them? A coward with nothing to display strength and loyalty to? What weakness would he have already earned what strength could he prove to this white man? Loath had seen too many cowards in his life and he had destroyed them, he had also seen true courage and he had respected it. If this wolf would fulfill the test – he would earn Loath’s respect and favor.

More or less Loath would – favor him. ”Do my test, and I will. Offer my service through one request. Only one. It can be any favor though.” A fair trait in the world of the God. IF the other one agreed to the terms Loath would stand and walk straight up to him, push him to the ground on his side so his left side was up toward the air, grab around the paw of his left front leg, search with his tongue, single out the middle toe – and bite. He would bite HARD and in one stern motion, making it absolutely clear he meant to bite it clean off. He would attempt to hold the other one down from bawling with his front legs, crunch clean and fast and take off the useless middle toe on his front paw. If successful he would spit it out and smiled pleased at the display. However should the other wolf decline the offer altogether Loath would be highly disappointed. This ritual had been a true testament to loyalty, obedience and courage in his homeland, it was saddening to see a second of a pack be too much of a whiny bitch to want to lose a useless toe. Actually at his home it was custom to take TWO. Slowly, painfully and gnawing through the bone and flesh. Loath had made it fair alright. Easy and clean.

IF the other had agreed to the test and therefore the removal of his toe, Loath would back off to let him roll around in pain for a bit and get over the shock and surprise, yet awaiting for the white god kept to his word on the matter of owning the other one a favor. He would do as he was told, he would grand him this one request no matter what it would be, mostly because Loath had little to no qualms for anything he could do or would do in this life, he wasn’t scared of anything and he wasn’t afraid to be challenged. Actually he could use a challenge at this point, being a loner was simply too boring for him. He expected this. Kieth, to use this favor wisely for it was something he had never done before and was unlikely to ever do again. It was a huge leap of faith to him, just as Kieth would have done if he had agreed to the test.

[Just to make it clear, Loath will ONLY take the toe if Kieth agree to do the test. And yes, his request can be ANYTHING.]

Sorry, this one took a while b/c Kieth couldn't make up his mind D:

Kieth saw the large white males' eyes narrow and his eyebrow raise at his words of being a second, like it surprised him. He listened as Lath spoke, and an interested look crossed his face, before he covered it up and composed himself. Looking at the white male, Kieth studied him, trying to figure out what he was asking him to do. The grey male kept silent for a few moments, contemplating on what Lāth had just said. So, he would have to prove his courage, strength and loyalty to this wolf by doing the so called test. But he had no loyalty to this wolf, and had no need to prove it to him. Although, as the white male started speaking again, he perked up his ears and listened attentively to his words.

A puzzled look came across the grey males' face. What was this test that he was speaking about? Looking curiously at Lāth, Kieth cocked his head slightly to the side, before speaking. "What are the requirements for this... test that you speak of?" He couldn't help but be curious, it was in his nature to find out what things meant, and he especially wanted to know what this test was. The white male said it would take courage, strength and loyalty to do, and he could give all three. But at what cost? Locking his pale grey gaze onto Lāth's orange eyes, Kieth let the smallest of smiles appear on the edges of his lips, before it disappeared and a hard look came across his face. It wasn't a cold look, or a friendly one; it was pure neutral with the hint of a smile. He wasn't sure what the test was, but he figured that he would take a leap of faith and do it. After all, what could he loose?

"I have decided to accept your test, whatever it may be."

The two males eyed each other for quite some time, Loath standing with tail at a relaxed stance, his ears pointed toward him without perking his eyes fixated upon him. His home had required this test from anyone it didn’t have a price of something valuable really, it was just about not giving in to a short amount of pain, not give in to being weak because someone else made you bleed. To trust that the other being meant what they said, that nothing was wrong with this so called test, that they wouldn’t be damaged for life. They had needed usable people, not those that would crumble under any kind of pressure or physically crippled. Kieth wouldn’t go home crippled for life he would just go home a toe shorter than the rest of the wolves. With a valuable favor in his pocket from a stranger who kept his word to any man he met. Did Loath know how to lie? Sure and he had done it to gain his own purpose, but if he made a promise – he would be sure to keep that, especially if he had no reason to trick the other.

"What are the requirements for this... test that you speak of?” He brushed off this question as he had already answered it. It took a leap of faith and it took courage to let a stranger put you through some kind of test you didn’t even know about. For all Kieth knew this stranger could put him in a vulnerable position or dangerous even. Luckily to Kieth, Loath had no such intentions. He was far too superior to play games of simple violence and harming someone he wouldn’t gain anything from. This guy couldn’t give him anything of what he sought – power – glory - Nena… His eyes simply moved a bit before returning to Kieth and he frowned. ”You will see.” the other one was thinking, hard and he was considering his options carefully, his eyes hardening. Loath could obviously see he was intrigued by this idea of being test, of learning something he didn’t know of, peek of interest made him even think about saying yes to a stranger. Loath had a simple effect on people by knowing their wants and need or attempt to get to know it, Kieth had his need and want intrigued, questioned and he was in.

"I have decided to accept your test, whatever it may be." Loath didn’t smile or congratulate him, he simply walked up to Kieth, looking down upon him he assessed the smaller wolf’s body, before moving his head down to Kieth’s left front leg. In a snap like movement Loath had his leg in his mouth, pulled on it so Kieth would fall on to his right side with his left front leg up in the air toward Loath. He let him lie there for a second, either feeling curious, frightened or manipulated. Was he feeling tricked? Did he already seek revenge for unspoken lies? Loath didn’t bother with something like that he would do the test he had performed on at least 25 other wolves before he had let them into his paradise to serve him. He singled out the middle toe on his paw, placed his own paws on his chest and with one fast, hard crunch he bit. His teeth sunk in to the bone and before Kieth’s nerves and feeling would return too fast he bit again.

The bone snapped with a large sound and he knew Kieth was going to be in a lot of pain at this very instant and so he pulled with his entire body weight off Kieth – the toe came off. He wasn’t going to bleed to death and he was going to need to get used to this new sensation on his paw, the phantom pains and the way it all felt so unfair. He had earned what usually no other could have and that was Loath’s favor. Loath stood there looking at Kieth with his toe in his mouth, blood running down his tongue and over his chin and finally he ate it. It was hair, bony and uncomfortable as it always was, but there was no looking back, no regretting it and he simply disposed of the past – the rite of forgiveness. He was no poet at heart but he certainly had never been a large fan on palinode as he fought the past into his entire future. He licked his chin clean and waited for Kieth to get over the shock – if he ever would. He had seen wolves gone into shock by surprise alone instead of pain. Should Kieth’s body start to get into total shock Loath would react accordingly by any promise he had made. He would lie down in front of Kieth, his long legs stretched out toward him and his cold eyes watched him.

It was so simple to be a god.
