Phineas Argyris
For @Inkheart and @[Éponine]. Set the early morning after this thread. Phineas will likely want to visit DR, OTB, and now PPT.. let me know if you guys aren't up for three separate threads (after this one), we'll find a reason for them to return home, or send one of them home, etc.
After his meeting with Inkheart, the male had gone home a bit earlier than he normally would have retired – being greeted by his two eager children only stirred the largest of smiles to his features, and of course, being greeted by his beautiful mate only stirred a pang of passion within his chest. He told her of his plans – he would return as soon as possible, but it had become painfully obvious that their once secluded paradise was perhaps not as hidden nor private as they had hoped. With surrounding packs, Phineas needed to affirm hunting grounds.. and perhaps establish a relationship with their neighbors. Despite having traveled to this side of the mountain for privacy, it seemed with the disappearance of the rabid pack prior, others held the same thought in mind.
When he awoke that morning, the alabaster male stretched his figure, grooming the back of @Borlla’s neck and murmuring a weary farewell to her. A kiss was planted on both @Kyros and @Hypatia’s head before he slunk out to the grey morning, his eyes blinking as they adjusted to the dim, foggy light of morning.
Inkheart expected his call this morning, but Eponine did not. Still, he would summon the girl.. she was young, and he desired to test the diplomacy that might have been in the Yearling. As the sun rose, the male lifted his muzzle back, calling for the swarthy male and the silver yearling. He summoned them both, the urgency in his voice making note that he did not wish to wait long for their presence. The sooner they began their travels, the sooner they could return home, where they all belonged.

eep! i'm sorry this took so long, i'm going to try to trek through some posts within the next two days! <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">
Inkheart was eager to go on a round trip with Phineas and one of the yearlings of the pack, not because it allowed him a chance for his Alpha to trust in him more but because it allowed him to see more of their surroundings. Inkheart was glad to be able to venture out with his Alpha to see and talk with the other packs about their future as possible allies. Well, that was to assume that these were going to be allies rather than enemies.
From the moment that Phineas had sung his chorus, the ink-smothered beast was quick to come to a close on his morning duties. After all to be late in the presence of an Alpha was not the way to a certified trust. He had many things to do in order to secure his place among the pack but he was going to do so soon. As either a Scout or a Guardian, he figured that either task would be beneficial to him and to the Glen. From what he was able to tell there was not a single pack role on any of the Glen wolf titles and he was prepared to be the first.
Within ten minutes time he had found his way to Phineas (Inkheart sarcastically chastised himself on underestimating the time it would take between the call and finishing his patrol) and lowered his head, creeping forward to place a submissive lick underneath his chin. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">“Has the yearling not arrived yet?” he asked, worried that the yearling was more interested in doing other things than assisting Phineas in his round trip journey.

Inkheart was quick to arrive, as usual. The ivory Leader lifted his muzzle slightly in the presence of the second, and as the ebony wolf placed a lick to his chin, Phineas nudged his nose to the other’s cheek in quiet greeting, his tail giving a quick flick of content through the air. At his companion’s question, the pale male gave a light shake of his broad muzzle, his fiery eyes seeking out the foliage in search of the yearling.
The moment’s continued to pass, and with each one, his eyes would narrow all the more. Irritation became apparent on the wolf, and a low grunt finally escaped him, his eyes giving a roll as they pressed to the direction of Inkheart. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;">“We leave without her,” he decided then, a growl seeping past his lips. When they returned, the girl would certainly get an ear full.
With that settled, the male gave a light nod, moving towards the direction of Magnolia Glen’s borders. He was eager to get going, anxious for the return to his mate and kids. They roamed in silence – neither wolf overly talkative, which suited the Argyris male just fine. He felt comfortable in the presence of Inkheart, and he only hoped the other felt the same.
They pressed past the borders, his paws digging in to some mud from the morning dew. It wasn’t until about an hour out that his steps faltered, his lips curling back to a silent snarl as his nose quivered. The scent of something upon the wind stirred another bout of anxiety within the male, and his eyes shifted to Inkheart. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;">“Do you smell that?” He hoped he was wrong.. otherwise, it meant a cougar was dangerously close to their territory.

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">
The more time that pressed on the more anxious Inkheart began to feel. This young wolf that Phineas had talked about seemed very uninterested in the course of action that her leader wished to take. Inkheart turned his mouth up in distaste for this unknown yearling, finding that her ignorance towards the situation was disrespectful to not just Phineas but the pack as a whole. When instructed by a leader she refused to show up or even make an excuse for herself and that alone did not pass well with the Glen’s second. The black knight was all about protecting those around him and making sure that he gave his utmost respect to his leaders, giving them what they deserved because they had given him a home when he wasn’t even sure what he had been looking for. This yearling apparently saw something completely different and would surely see worse when they returned home.
Nodding in agreement to leave her behind (she must be proud to have escaped a mouthful for the moment) the two began to trek out of the packland. Inkheart was quick to make a single mark on the border before pressing on, not wanting to leave the pack without proper incentive for strangers to stay behind. Inkheart had stopped some time before Phineas when his nose began to scent something off. It wasn’t a usual wolf scent that was picked up but rather something… <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">“feline in nature.” His lips curled back instinctively as he sniffed at where the location was. It didn’t seem too far off from them but surely Phineas would not take the risk of finding out.

He contemplated this a moment, feeling the fur along his neck bristle in agitation that such a creature had claimed so close to the Glen. His eyes drifted from the second, scanning the area before him, as if the cougar would pop out from the brush, unannounced and almost unexpected. His paws shifted in thought, hi lips pursing together now as a frustrated snort escaped him, his paws carrying him closer to Inkheart now.
Of course, he need not voice his concern. The inky male beside him seemed to understand Phineas’ hesitations on their trip, and yet he was unable to stop himself from muttering <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;">“Kyros and Hypatia,” just barely audible under his breath. They were at a tender age where exploration was becoming a more common thing, and they certainly gave he and Borlla a good run trying to keep them out of harm’s way.
His nose lifted once more, attempting to decipher the whereabouts of the cougar.<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;"> “This trip will have to wait,” he decided in a soft murmur, glancing over to his companion for his consent. More importantly however, he nodded his way back to their home. “We might have to deal with it if it doesn’t leave soon..” He would not tolerate a cougar so close to his home, not with his children.. and if need be, he would round the pack up to scare it off.. or, if he had to, kill it. There just simply wasn’t enough room for the wolves of Magnolia Glen and a feline predator.

do you want to try to make this LP acceptable (10 replies) or just fade it out with one last post? <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">
Inkheart’s body felt stiff to the touch, nothing about the situation felt good anymore and the excitement of going on this trip with Phineas seemed at a dead end. He knew before his leader even spoke it that they weren’t going to be going any further than where they stood right now. The pack needed to be aware of the cougar’s proximity and although they were not his children, Inkheart felt the responsibility of keeping them safe and out of danger. It was very obvious what their next tactic was going to be and Phineas admitted to it not but a second later.
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">“Agreed,” and without having to wait he made leave with Phineas so that the two of them could get back to pack territory. They needed to get there before this cat found need to venture that way, to protect Kyros and Hypatia. If Ink was a father he would have kept his children nestled in the den until he knew the cougar was positively gone and/or deceased. He would not want to risk the lives of his children, or his mate if the imaginary she-wolf were to protect them whilst he was out. If he so chose to venture out and collect the cougar’s breath, Inkheart would be close behind him without hesitation. A right-hand man, so to speak. There was not anything that would keep him from doing what was expected of him and he hoped that other members of the pack would do the same.

Might as well go for the points.. only two more responses each?

Inkheart, ever the steady companion, was quick to reassure Phineas that this decision was not foolish at all – that his worry was completely legitimate rather than that if an unnerved parent that flinched at any movement. His paces halted once more, his nose dropping slightly as he took in the path that led to home. As much as he desired to find the exact whereabouts of the cougar now, he knew that doing so with only two wolves was far more risky than if he summoned a larger group. Borlla would likely wish to join them, and that left Lucero or one of the yearlings to remain with the cubs to keep watchful eye on them. Erebos had been amiss these days, and the ivory wolf was not one to hold his breath in hopes his brother would answer his call. This left only Zia as a final full-fledged adult, yet the Argyris male was confident she would be as eager to protect her home as he was.
Without another pause, the male slunk past the ebony male beside him, his paws leading to the direction of home. Instead, this time, he chose a different path, one that would take them slightly longer than before.. but one he felt necessary, to help determine the location of the feline. When the scent grew stronger, he felt his nose burn with distaste, his hackles bristling slightly. It was not so near Magnolia Glen borders that it was an immediate threat to the pack, but it was certainly an uncomfortable proximity. Casting a glance to Inkheart, he rumbled a small growl of displeasure before continuing to the Glen, eager for his paws to cross the borders. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;">“The situation needs to be eradicated,” he finally spoke, his words hard, if not cold.

sure! <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">
Inkheart followed close behind, never letting Phineas out of sight or getting his own butt left behind. Although he too wished to protect Phineas’ children and keep them safe, he also wanted to make sure that Zia was aware of the situation. The two of them were both adults who could handle the situation if it arose but he would make sure that she knew. Both of them enjoyed protecting those in the pack and keeping the borders always watched so she would likely wish to know of any changes. Perhaps she had already sensed the cougar and was guarded the area already.
While Ink’s leader made it very clear that the cougar needed to be dealt with, Inkheart was thinking of anything he could do to ward it off besides take a group to look for it and take it down. From the scent of it it wasn’t dangerously close to the Glen but it was close enough to warn them that there was something large and it was lingering around their borders. The two of them averted their path in the direction of the scent though doubted that Phineas believed that they could take the cougar down just the two of them and not sustain an injury. With more wolves behind them it would certainly be a much easier task.
Without question he followed behind his leader and would help him accomplish whatever task needed to be done. Inkheart was not leader; he would not speak out of turn or call the shots when Phineas or Borlla were present. Regardless of neutral territory or not, he would always be below the two of them and respectfully so.

One last response from you and we're good?
Thanks for the thread! We'll do those travel threads soon, that way they wont be backdated..

The more they walked, the more agitated he became of the situation. He had turned from the area the cougar’s scent lay strongest, quickly seeking the path to home before they accidentally came upon the beast, and before they gave it knowledge to their own whereabouts. The last thing he wanted to do was give it cause to feel threatened so soon when they were unprepared and have it follow them back.
His paws moved quickly now – the large beast rumbling through the foliage, and only until the still and serene borders of the Glen came to view did a sigh of relief exhale past his lips. The scent was now long faded, and while this reassured him momentarily that the cougar had yet to come too close to their borders, it did not mean that their home lay in its future path. Stopping now, his tail gave an idle flick before his eyes flickered over Inkheart. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;">“I’m going to discuss the matter with Borlla. Tell the others as you see them to be wary – we’ll be in touch soon on how to deal with this,” he decided, his paws then moving him away from the inky man and toward the direction of his den, where he hoped to find his mate. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#ACBCCA;">“Our travels will continue after this is settled,” he called over his shoulder, his fiery eyes glancing back to regard Inkheart one last time before he departed to check on his family. His heart would not settle until he could see with his own eyes that they were safe from this potential harm.

<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">
In time he hoped that every wolf within the Glen would be aware of the dangers that could lurk anywhere in the open. Once upon a time he remembered telling a white lie to someone that had been very special to him. A woman that had caught him off guard and unknowingly to Inkheart had made a lasting impression upon his future. That little lied had been that he had been chased by a cougar—a large one at that—and that he had fought it off single-handedly. The woman had believed it and saw Inkheart to be very brave for doing something so terrifying. She had even asked if he was afraid about dying. Perhaps in that moment he had not been afraid of dying but here and now, he was afraid for not himself but for his pack mates.
Phineas issued a response that he would talk to Borlla about the situation and that should he pass anyone within the day that they should be warned. Inkheart nodded, still continuing his silence as he sniffed around, before watching Phineas disappear in the direction of Borlla’s scent. He hoped that everyone would be cautious when stepping outside of pack territory but Inkheart had a plan of his own. He would be very careful about it but he felt that it was his job to know the direction in which the cougar had gone. Inkheart would stay as far away as possible while still managing to get a read on it. With one turn he began walking off in the southwestern area, running along the border to double check each round.
