Athena Moon
sometimes you put up walls, not to keep people out
but to see who cares enough to knock them down

Slipping silently out of the dark thickets, Athena took her leave from Nina's territory and made her way towards the mountains. She was determined to get back to Elliot and Inkheart, even if they hated her. She needed to get back to them before she lost them again. Before she lost herself again. Dark, swollen clouds loomed above her as she trekked many days and nights across the eastern part of the Lore. After two unusually dry days, the heavy rains poured down. Traveling for half a fortnight through relentless rainfall, the fallen leader finally reached the lands of her old kingdom just in time to have the rains momentarily pause.

Gazing out across the barren lake, the memories of her old life flashed through her mind. The worn border trail was still there, but the scents that used to fill her nose were not. Sadness overcame her as she walked through the abandoned trail of nightshade that has begun to take over the once worn path to the dens. Night was almost upon her as she made her way towards the dens where she stayed in for over a year and a half. Athena decided it was an opportunity to spend one last night within her old home before she made we way towards her new one. Settling down within her old den, she could still smell faint signs of when she used to sleep in here every night. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep, however, staying asleep was another question.

Throughout the night, Athena suffered through multiple nightmares, keeping her from getting a full nights rest. Shaking the fatigue off, she slipped out towards the lake before she took her leave. "I'll come back to you," she whispered to the land before she finally turned and took her leave from her past and on to her future. Another several days passed as she made her way across the mountain and into the Vale of Secrets and towards Magnolia Glen. The rushing of water in the distance alerted her that she had finally reached Cold Water Creek, the home of Magnolia Glen. A sigh escaped her maw as her exhausted body finally came upon the borders. Settling several yards away from the boundaries, she raised her muzzle and sang a song for Inkheart, any leaders, and most of all Elliot.

Phineas Argyris
The day was chilled -- it seemed each time the moon sunk below the horizon to greet a new day, it came a little more colder than the one before. The rains that had disrupted the creek only but a few days before had turned to snow, though at times mixed with rain, and Phineas watched the snowflakes fall from the heavens with a heavy heart. Borlla was still not entirely healed yet, and should her recovery not pick up more, he feared to how she would fare in the upcoming winter.

The large figure of the ivory male stalked the borders of the Glen. HIs own muzzle tipped up, inhaling the cold wind for any sign of differentiation, and yet he was met with none. Just as he considered his round of the borders to be complete, a howl echoed across the sky.. one thatw as not familiar to him, and yet beckoned for the inhabitants of the Glen. A light frown cast itself upon his pale features, and without pause, the arctic hybrid was rounding back the way he had come, weaving through the brush of the land he deemed home.

It took him awhile -- minutes turned to about a half hour, and finally his fiery gaze fell upon the caller. He did not recognize her at first -- their encounter had been brief, and ehr stay with them even more so, it seemed. Yet as his eyes fell upon the petite form, noting the scar upon her features, his own turned stoical. Her presence wasn't necessarily welcomed this time around, and as he emerged from the brush, his tail arched higher in his dominance, his gaze cold, despite the warmth of their color. "I found him abandoned before in his old pack lands.. and then you came for him, and got his hopes up. You left him again.. and then dare try to come back?" His words were just as icy as his stare, and prowling forward, the Argyris leader awaited to hear what excuses would meet him.

Inkheart
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">
Inkheart had lost hope long ago as the disappearance of Athena had continued on, leaving her son to feel less and less open to his mother. The boy did not have to speak it but Inkheart knew; he knew what it felt like to feel alone and without the company of family or friends. Elliot was lucky that Phineas had found the boy when he had all that time ago because it left room for comfort now. Inkheart wished to say something to Athena as he arrived but he had heard what Phineas said and thought nearly the same thing; but, his emotions were thick on his mind.
As time had pressed on he had worried for the health and happiness of Elliot, as well as the safety of travel wherever Athena had gone to. However, it didn’t mean that he was completely happy upon her return. Ink was glad for her safety but it was like Phineas had said—she had come back for him after leaving only to leave him a second time only to come back once more. How could they trust that she would not leave again? Elliot might not take too kindly to being left alone not once, but twice and what was to say that a third time wasn’t on its way?
After managing to figure out a voice of what to say he pushed forward from Phineas’ side and nudged at her neck. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">“I am thankful that you are safe and well,” and this he meant from the bottom of his heart as she was a friend that he cared for deeply, <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#FA2F00;">“but Phineas is right—there is a chance that Elliot won’t accept your arrival or an apology.” He was not young enough to not understand nor was he old enough to do what he pleased and allow his mother the same policy. He was but a child that needed a mother growing up, not strangers that had come to be guardians.

As she stood motionless at the borders, her burning eyes watched the snowflakes fall upon her similarly white paws. The snowflakes kept their brilliant shapes for a money until they finally melted under the warmth of her body. However, the snowflakes collected upon the ground, announcing the beginning of the harsh winter season. Perhaps winter wasn't so harsh down in the valleys compared to the conditions she went through upon the mountain. Her thoughts, however, were interrupted by the sound of someone approaching. Lifting her fiery eyes towards the white form in front of her, she immediately recognized the regal man as Magnolia Glen's leader and it would seem he recognized her as well.

Her petite body slowly gravitated closer to the cold ground and her gaze everted his as she noticed his immediate change in posture. His words came out in a hiss and she dared not look at him while she collected her thoughts. She didn't mean to leave him, but she thought she could find Aphrodite quickly and she could bring her back to him and they could become a family once again. However, she lost her lost daughter's trail and her way back home. They did not know this. Elliot did not know this. So they could only believe that she just left them without a care. It sure seemed that way, but in truth, she just wanted her family back together again.

As she glanced up to explain her story, the dark mass of Inkheart was approaching her. She wasn't sure if she was going to feel teeth or claw from him. He had to be angry at her for leaving, however, he surprised her. Athena felt the welcoming comfort of his touch and his words weren't as cold and harsh as Phineas's had been. She knew Elliot may not want her back in his life, but she had to try. "I know, I have done wrong to him. I wasn't going to leave his side when I got him back, but I found the trail of my daughter away from the lands where she was supposed to be." She explained, her fiery gaze looking up at both of them. Her eyes showed too much bare emotion to have this be a made up story. But, part of her wished it was.

"I thought I could find her quickly since the trail was so fresh and bring her back so Elliot could have his sister and I could have my family back. But, I lost her trail and lost my way back to the Lore." By now, her eyes slowly gravitated back towards her paws as her guilt and sadness ate at her soul. Suffering so much loss within such a short period of time has left her tired, exhausted, and hollow on the inside. It hurt to think of all of her failures and realize that her father was correct about his daughter. "I... I'm sorry. I was trying to get my family back."

Elliot
I sing a different song of how the wheres and whys of now all prove I don’t belong.

A call shook him awake, his eyes flying open as he stood too fast, stumbling as black spots danced in his vision. A call that requested the leaders of the pack or any nearby pack member. A call that Elliot wasn’t sure he had wanted to hear ever again. He stood, frozen like a deer in headlights, as his mind reeled. He wanted to go, to make sure he wasn’t imaging things, yet he worried that someone might scold him if he got too close to the borders, especially after his little misadventure. He had to be sure, though. He had to know why. He had to ask his mother why she had left him not once but twice now. He needed to understand, to see her, to put his memories in a little box and store them away in his head. Nervously, he crept from the den and began to run.

His heart thundered with each step he made through the snowy blanket, threatening to crack his ribs open and fly from his chest. The black cub wasn’t sure how long he had run for, though he grew closer and closer until he could smell Phineas and Inkheart. They were the scents he knew the best, the scent of magnolias and the pack. Immediately, he slowed and crawled into the underbrush. His ears pressed forwards and Elliot was terrified they would hear his heart hammering against his breast bone. The blood rushed to his head and then suddenly he leapt out, wide eyed as he came face to face with her.

He choked out a small <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“oh”, leg lifting almost clumsily and hurriedly as he stared. The eyes, the distinct facial features … his mother. Athena. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“Why,” he managed to gasp, visibly shaking from sudden shock, <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“why are you here again?” Suddenly, everything just burst from within and he shrieked as loud as he could. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“Why did you come back?!”

He looked to @Phineas, to @Inkheart before his eyes locked on his mother again. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“Are you back to leave me again? Do you hate me? Do you wish Aphrodite was here instead of me? Did I do something wrong?!” His voice, which started as a whimpered whisper, grew louder and shakier with each word, though he himself shrunk back. Then he fell quiet again. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“You shouldn’t …” his mind whirred, his ears folding back against his head, <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">“you shouldn’t have come back.”

He turned hurriedly, scrambling to escape. He couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t think. The boy stumbled clumsily as he tried to flee, falling as his chin hit the snow beneath him. Pulling himself up without missing a beat, Elliot attempted to race off from the scene as his last words circled in his head like a hungry shark. You shouldn’t have come back. His effort was in vain, though, as he fell once more. This time, he did not stand. This time he crumpled into the underbrush and he cried. Finally, after everything, Elliot Moon cried. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#7e0b46">

Phineas Argyris
His eyes roved across her, briefly falling upon the mystery scar that ran upon her muzzle. The disfigurement wasn't an unattractive feature -- if anything, it caused her to appear more regal. The gentle sound of the crunch of paw pads upon the winter grounds caused him to stir his eyes up once more, fiery eyes meeting the inky figure of Inkheart. As the male shifted past him to seek out the ivory she-wolf, his ebony form pressing to hers, the hackles of the regal male bristled slightly at the welcoming gesture -- she was not pack, nor did she do anything to earn their trust. Thus far, she had broken his twice now, both times with the abandonment of her child.

He did little to justify these emotions that coursed through him, and the Argyris surveyed her blankly as she spoke once more, speaking of fixing her family. Phineas had not even opened his mouth to retort the words that pressed against his tongue when Elliot came to the scene.

It was as expected -- the youth erupted at the sight of her, and coldly, Phineas' eyes flashed in her direction. She had done this. His eyes flickered back to the boy, distraught with her return, Elliot turned, his youthful body falling in to the snow. Wincing slightly, Phineas' paw twitched, aching to go to him. As the boy picked himself up once more, he made to run. The snow and his grief grasped him once more, and this time, the cub lay defeated to its cold depths as sobs erupted from him.

A low growl bubbled from his throat then, his eyes shooting back toward the she-wolf. Prowling forward, he closed the distance between them carefully, his figure lifting dangerously to his full height. "I do not accept your presence in these lands and this pack for your sake. I accept it for his. Undo what you did to him, if it's the last thing you do." There was a small pause, his lips pulling back slightly to reveal the tips of his fangs. "And if you run again, Athena, with or without word.. My jaws will find your neck and discard such a useless life."

The words were cold, and yet calculated. With a stoical glance to Inkheart, the leader turned from her now, his figure swiftly moving to Elliot. Worriedly, his nose found the boy's skull, his muzzle grazing gingerly over the crown. He had no words to soothe. Hoping the boy would rise, Phineas would then escort him back to the central pack lands, hoping to ease his mind.
