Karpos Slayer
everything that kills me makes me feel alive
Karpos listened to the story with interest, but the life was leaving him as his eyes started to flutter shut. It was late at night and he had done lots of running before the ran had started. He was having an issue staying awake, but he had to. It was rude to fall asleep during an adventure story. His Auntie Nari spoke of a creature that walked on two paws instead of four and that confused Karpos. Why would a creature choose the instability of two paws? He thought that all creatures stood on four paws all the time. The midnight cloaked prince was obviously mistaken. He listened further, straying in and out of consciousness as he did so. The chocolate brown eyes had an exhausted look to them, but he pushed on.

When she asked if he wanted to hear more about the wolf-man Karpos opened his muzzle to speak; however a yawn reached him first. <b style="font-family:georgia; color:#8182A3;">"Yes.... yes please Aunti---." His words were cut off as he finally fell into a peaceful slumber. A dream of when his family was together was all he had left to remember the happier times. He tried to remember the times before his mother left. He was curled up alone and in the den next to his sister and his Auntie Pella was watching over him. His father and uncle Ace would have been guarding him from the evils and the wolves that eventually led them to leaving Spectral Woods. Karpos was in his own safe haven in his sleep.

Narimé Lagina

Narime had finished her story and was waiting to see if Karpos had wanted to know of the man wolf story. She could already see the tiredness creep into his gaze and wondered if the scary wolf man story might make the boy have bad dreams. He had started to speak only to be interrupted by a yawn which promptly put the young male asleep.

Shifting herself closer to look at him Narime felt that familiar ache in her heart. She missed her own pups so much. It felt as if her heart had turned to ice before meeting Karpos who had unintentionally melted that icy fortress. Gently and softly the silver wolf began grooming him much like she did with her own pups. The woman made sure each nibble full of fur was clean and fluffed against the chill before moving to a different spot. Nari could almost imagine Karpos' dark fur was drab of the brownish hues and silver flecked like her own son Titan and breathed a soft sigh as she groomed the sleeping boy.

"Green earth wakes to the golden rays of the sun.
One half cloaked by shadow, one half spying the light.
Those who welcome the glittering light, fear the night.
Those who welcome the blanketed night, fear the light.
Each surviving their own stories on green earths might.

Let the dark skies dance with the warmth of a billion souls,
and when the sun rises those souls will disappear waiting for the night to come again.
When the night comes a second time those bright souls will search the earth for the fallen,
and lead those poor spirits to the nether world where they too will become the ebony night.

Green earth wakes to the golden rays of the sun.
One half cloaked by shadow, one half spying the light.
Those who welcome the glittering light, fear the night.
Those who welcome the blanketed night, fear the light.
Each surviving their own stories on green earths might.

And the rain falls on me...
When the souls of the departed shed their tears,
It is for those who had not yet taken the journey to the deep darkness.
Those tears in turn provide life to those in the land of the living.
So the rain falls..."

Narime sung the song softly still wondering just who had sung it to her when she was little. Had it been her adopted mother or her real mother? She wasn't sure and could not remember anything but the song from so long ago. Now she would sing it to this child and hoped he had good dreams until the storm let up in the morning and they could start moving once more.
