So much death had plagued the Willow Ridge pack during the winter and early moments of spring and even still as Guiness death weighed the pack and her, Elettra Archer felt so alive. Once more Spring brought new beginnings. Once more the pack which had dwindled to such a small amount had rose to a strong, stable size. Most of the group, come to think of it, bore the name Archer or, like @Angier, was tied into the Archer family. Lyalls, too, were becoming strong within the pack, now that Angier and Elettra were bound and shared a litter of young together. They were a true, close-knit pack, built like a family because they were a family. @Adelaide, despite Elettra's grim manner to her time and time again, had proved faithful and now, seemed to be trying to take up some position in teaching her new children whilst not working on collecting herbs of tending to wounds - as of yet, there was no need for such things. @Senka still worked well with hunting or so the Leader could only assume and even @Lunas had found effort in scouting out the lands, his scent mingling with that of @Skoll. She had a hopes that her son would find someone with similar interests. Then, of course, there was @Rowan, a young man born of another man Elettra knew to be great and so much of Kade showed within him that Elettra had no doubts the Yearling was promising with her ranks despite being still young enough to need some looking after.
Having left the pack den a bit ago and certain that one of her older children, Angier, or even her sister or nephew might take up position to guard the new litter, the mother strode off from the bounds of her home for a good stretch of her limbs. Her long, strong legs carried her swiftly south-west towards the meadow - an uneven, rolling grassland with an openness seemingly unmatched to any and a perfect place for hunting large, grazing game. Elettra Archer could smell prey in the distance, pronghorn, she thought, though for the moment did not spot anything. She simply strode in a quick trot, eager to have a moment out of the dark hollows of the birthing den. Perhaps, too, one of her pack-mates (maybe a guardian in the making?) would find it fitting to follow their Leader should the mother be of any assistance whilst outside the territory and in the open. For now, however, the woman's pale gray eyes were forth and her nose to the winds.
With the children out and about now, and her stocks more than full, Adelaide allowed herself to a bit of freedom. She more than enjoyed interacting with the little bundles and could easily keep herself occupied with them for ages. However, there were other things to tend to. Perhaps she would go out and try to catch something for the new mother. Hunting was not her greatest strength, but she was certainly capable of catching something as simple as a rabbit. Her encounters with Elettra had not been the most pleasant so far, and she was still quite determined to prove herself to the woman, especially if she were to keep an eye on the children as they grew. All she wanted was to be trusted, and that was doubly so when it came to the children.
Adelaide's quest for food carried her to Hush Meadow, her usual haunt for herbs and the like. But that was not her goal today. Moving about the long stalks of grass, she sniffed about the fringes of the field. In her casual hunt, she caught Elettra's scent. Her head lifted quickly, silver eyes almost immediately spotting the woman in the distance. With enthusiasm in her step, Adelaide approached her leader. "Good day, Lady Elettra." The agouti woman made herself known a few yards again, tail wagging kindly at her back, a smile upon her face.
Pack life felt more and more stable as each sun rose and set. The days were mostly spent on patrol of the lands or the caches, and he was beginning to enjoy the routine - though he was certain there would be changes as the Archer-Lyall youths grew. Now and for a while they would be cute, cuddly munchkins and then out of no where their stubby puppy legs would lead them way away from the den and into trouble. The bigger they got, the bolder they were. At least, that's how he recalled his childhood being. Usually it was Cinder or Mace that got the idea to go off exploring. He and Quil had been more reluctant to the idea, and yet didn't they always wind up wherever their adventurous siblings were?
Though Rowan was steadily moving beyond Willow Ridge borders it was not in any attempt to catch up to his siblings' youthhood ways. His usual tabs on the border scents had caught Elettra's leaving the lands - without accompaniment. Rowan knew she needed no body guard. The wolf was formidable, no doubt as powerful as she came off to be. It was fairly obvious he very much admired the Leader who had accepted him. He did not track her scent, then, to chaperone whatever she was up to - just out of curiosity, and perhaps company as well. He had similar thoughts regarding her mate, @Angier - who seemed elusive, stoic, and every bit as tall at her side. But if one was out, he figured the other might stay in - and so he would attend to that pursuit at a later time.
Beneath his dark legs the foliage began to part and the Attaya youth found himself amid a rolling meadow, its sky open and its grasses plush. Along the way he picked up another familiar scent, another pack mate, the female who had lead him and Jaromir to the resting site of the fallen Willow Ridge members. With little to cloak them from view Rowan found the two females with relative ease, his eager steps bringing him forward to join them. His tail swung at a pleasant pace as he came forward to greet Elettra and Adelaide. "Smells of promise out here," he suggested, his nose twitching to the scent of prey. These verdant grasses would attract many an herbivore for as long as the frost remained away... a sign that bode more than well for the wolves of Willow Ridge.
Lunas stepped into Hush Meadow. He had been following the scent of a pronghorn for a small chunk of the morning. It had been a very confusing trail to follow. The pronghorn had been far off at first, but now the scout knew he was close to it, and thought perhaps he could see a little of its antlers over the grass. He hadn't really been to Hush Meadow before. Now that didn't mean he had never explored the large field, it just meant he didn't know it as well as his home turf in Drooping Willows. At that moment, Lunas caught sight and scent of @Elettra, @Adelaide, and @Rowan. He began to weave through the grass toward them. Although it wasn't his job to hunt, the copper man doubted Lady Elettra would be upset to hear he had been tracking it a while. As he got closer, he halted, remaining a respectful distance away from the three. He gave Queen Elettra a respectful nod, and quickly thought that perhaps they too were hunting the pronghorn, because there was an eager, curious mood to the air. Lunas relayed what he knew of the pronghorn and it's current position. "If you are hunting the pronghorn, I've been following it for a little while. It's a fairly large male, so not extremely fast. Right now it is grazing slightly southeast of the meadow's center." He told his packmates, directing its position with his tail and a jerk of his muzzle.
Elettra had expected that a wolf or two might have followed after her, slowly trailing her scent in ether a protective or curious manner. Perhaps even her son, @Skoll, stalked her every moment, for he was known for doing such things. However, it was Adelaide who approached firstly, not being back at the pack den as she had expected, though perhaps taking into consideration her time as an herbalist and came out here to collect? After all, with Adelaide, Xetor and Lunas collecting herbs, Elettra focused her energy on other manners. Of course, she was still the best medic Relic Lore knew of, though she did not need to shop for her own supplies to be such. Elettra's body and tail rose to the woman's arrival, no longer stalking about in a lazy, comfortable manner. Elettra's greeting is a dip of her muzzle and a wave of her high tail, limbs taking a few quick steps into her direction before another approach distracts her. It is Rowan, fashioned in a dark brown, near black torso, though with limbs and face far more dark that struck out amongst the rest. She, as with Adelaide, too a few quick steps into his direction, woofing as he would find them and make his approach. "It does. It's nice being out in the open." Elettra had come after all to stretch her limbs and run. Although Willow Ridge was a forestry, it was not at all cramped and tangled. Not like he Ghastly Woods or Thicket of Secrets where you could get lost within, often tripping up in the same area you have tripped up before just hours ago without notice. Still, there was no trees here and the brush was low, letting her scan the area and see for miles, as she did now.
There was another, then, on the sky line. Small, quick and red hued. At first Elettra thought it might be a coyote or something, but the scent that came to her told her that it was one of her newer members, Lunas. "A large buck, hu? Slower, yes, but those little horns can due their fair share of damage. With just one of him and the four of us, I'd say we have quite the advantage." She had only met Lunas once before and at the time Elettra was rather distracted with the volume of other members about the pack den as well as her children emerging for the first time. She did not know what standings he held within the pack, let alone that he was not just under Angier, a placement which Guiness had held far longer then she could remember. Had she known, she would have been unsettled, challenging and rebellious of the small, quickly moving male that now held the place of where a large, tanking man once stood. ...They were at least around the same fiery color. Still, what she did know of him was that he had taken up a role of a sort of scout. So far in his roaming, he had returned home with herbs and now, a direct location of the prey which the group had scented. He was doing well enough, so far.
"Adelaide - how do you feel about chasing the prey down with Lunas into Rowan and my direction? From there we can get to him at all four sides with no way out." Lunas surely was a swift fellow with the ability to give chase and run the pronghorn ragged. However, Elettra knew Ade's skills were more in healing and children, though unknowing of her hunting tactics. Rowan, too, was young, but the largest of the group even with his age, surely able to help take the Pronghorn down whilst Elettra aimed a grip at it's throat.
While Adelaide would have loved to have a bit of alone time with her leader, she somehow still felt somewhat relieved when @Rowan arrived. She offered him a smile of hello. She respected Lady Elettra with all of her soul, but they few times that they'd spent in each other's presence had been...Uncomfortable. At least for Adelaide they had. She was still quite determined to prove her worth to the woman, but perhaps it was better if she was a bit watered down with company. Adelaide had recently discovered that she could be a bit much to take. @Lunas appeared next and spoke of a pronghorn male in the distance. Her legs shook a bit at the prospect of a hunt, something that was not at all her strongest suit. Her brain was good at working, while her body did the minimum amount of work, that was keeping her alive. But she would do just as she was told, and at least she wouldn't be doing it alone. Elettra spoke up, asking her to push the buck towards her and Rowan. She gave a careful nod, silver eyes gazing in the direction of their prey.
"I'm sure I could do that." She answered, not entirely certain of herself, but she peeled away from the group, in the opposite direction as Lunas so that they'd eventually come at the buck from either side. Her run was low and careful, dragging her sides against fragrant bushes until she eventually met up with Lunas. Her gait increased then. She loved the adrenaline rush that came with these sorts of things. She recalled her recent fight with Sorya and the rush it had given her. Her wounds were healing quite well now, though she felt a very evident soreness as she ran. She ought to have known better, but it was too late now. She leaped quickly out of the way to dodge a hoof and could only quickly glance over her shoulder to see that Lunas had gone down for a moment. The caused Adelaide to run harder, snarling at the prey, nipping at its haunches.
It was not long before another Ridge member appeared from the plush field. They had not properly met, but he had seen the male when Elettra's pups had first wandered from the den. Lunas brought with him a bit of information more tantalizing than the scent of it: he had been following the pronghorn scent out here, and seen it too. His muted-gold gaze slid between Lunas and Elettra while their Leader considered his tip - and then suggested the hunt. Immediately an excited wag started in his tail, a subdued smirk expressing his pleasure at the prospect of a hunt. Rowan's experiences had been far and few between, having never been part of a large enough pack or having been too young when he was. Even with the couple that had watched over him for a few months after the flood they couldn't hunt much substantial. The Attaya boy had nothing against scavenging, but a real hunt with a real kill... now that he could get behind. Besides, he needed it. His skeleton would grow no further, but every piece of experience would lead him to become a stronger, better wolf.
Lunas and Adelaide split off eagerly. He waited until they were positioned to run, before dropping low to his belly. It was harder to see them through the grass, but that meant the pronghorn wouldn't see him either. By the time the scent of himself and Elettra hit his nostrils it would be too late to escape the four wolves... so long as nothing went wrong. He watched with narrow eyes as the pronghorn struck out at Lunas, gritting his teeth and hoping there would be no injuries. But as the hunt progressed Lunas was on his feet again, catching up to Adelaide as the female snapped her jaws at its flank. His tail swung low in the grasses behind him, anxious to confront their prey and nervous about its violent tendencies. The Attaya exhaled through his nostrils, forcing himself to trust his pack mates over his nervous instinct. They were sharp of mind and quick of foot. It would be alright.
The sound of hooves and paws alike got closer, ringing in his ears. He could see the pronghorn thundering forward, desperate for escape. Quickly he shot a glance toward Elettra to see that they were on the same page, that their time was here. If they let the pronghorn lurch any closer its momentum might hurt them. With a growl the yearling launched himself forward, pushing to close the gap between himself and the pronghorn. It had just enough time to realize the ambush, which meant the pronghorn would need to choose what direction to take now. That moment of distraction was prime time to strike. He swung his body to the left and lurched forward, snapping at its shoulder and throat to wound the male. He danced off quickly, avoiding the sharp hooves that followed his every blow. He was aggressive, but the wolves were determined to bring him down.
Within the distance, she waited. Her position was not far from the yearling she had accepted into the pack not long ago. Beyond the tall grasses which marred her vision, she could see Adelaide giving chase, could see Lunas eagerness to pull forward and though seemingly rushing. Adelaide had firstly seemed more cautious and Lunas had been much to eager to await for his partner. Both of these things she considered as Lunas was struck out at, faltering momentarily and giving Ade the reigns for a moment as he recovered. His eagerness had gotten the better of him, it seemed, yet soon enough the pair, together, were rushing the pronghorn into Elettra and Rowan's direction.
For a few moments Elettra was left to wonder exactly if this was going to work. The bull's aggression was clear - a very determined, stubborn and prideful being, it seemed. She was working with a thinly scout, a woman who did not hunt well at all according to herself, and a yearling. There was some faltering and yet Elettra had no intention to pull out of the hunt just yet. Her eyes flashed to Rowan the moment he turned to her. Body leaned back, readying herself for the attack. In seconds, Rowan was bounding forward, startling the pronghorn who slowed at the male's approach for fear of which way to run. It was a moments distraction Elettra needed as she too sprung from cover, launching out at the pronghorn opposite of Rowan - to the right. In one swift leap she snapped out at the creature, snagging the side of its throat and jawline enough to yank the pronghorn's head out to the side as gravity pulled Elettra downward once more. She jumps back in the same manner as her partner, avoiding a series of blows. Now, however, bleeding and exhausted, the pronghorn had no where to go and was only left to fight now that flight had failed him.
