Waking up that morning, Alphaeus was certain of one thing; He was the king of his fate. It was safe to say that Alphaeus would be fairing much better had he been content living under his mother's watchful eyes, but just because he had lost a little weight was no reason to harbor a defeated attitude. Though his gait lacked a certain vivacious bounce, he was still the same boisterous Alpha... so far.

The vibrant spring sunrise filtered through Red Fern Forest's canopy, its tendrils of soothing yellow light giving the dew tinged undergrowth a tender shimmer. These beautiful details of mother earth went largely unnoticed by Alphaeus however, who could be found with his handsome square muzzle rooting about the undergrowth in search of food. Really anything of substance would do. Determined and fierce topaz eyes searched the forest floor as his agile salmon tongue grasped various items that he had previously staked out, pulling the treasures into his cavernous mouth to test their worth. Yet time and time again he got the same result -- Nothing.

It had only been a few minutes of serious foraging, but being so used to getting all he needed very simply, Alphaeus had become extremely frustrated. Suddenly, a rasping snarl erupted from the boy's throat with such force that it shook his vermillion surroundings into an eerie silence. The change went completely unnoticed by the wiley youth however, as he was far too concerned with taking his rage out on an innocent cedar sapling to be bothered with the commotion he had caused. .

Eyes of gold and umber had greeted the dawn before its first light, set forward and determined to spot familiarity amidst the strange and new. There was a time before this when she had passed through the autumnal woods, determined then as she was now to find home to conclude her excursion beyond the lower peaks of the mountain. Yet she hadn't then spared the forest a lingering glance, too concerned with duty and the thoughts that weighed so heavily upon her mind. Yet now as she traversed the fertile grounds on a northbound course, she took the time to thorough map the direction of her choosing, marking each strange limb and intriguing scent of the forest that she might recall it again in her memory.

Such was the routine of a survivalist within the wild.

Soft morning light peered shyly through the canopy lighting the wandering wolf's way towards lands she did know, and occasionally would fall upon and earthly visage of interest. A collection of turned earth that had once been the resting place of some wild fodder, the steps of a predator much smaller than her own. Signs of life were everywhere beyond the thriving flora that encompassed the very trucks and branches of the towering trees all around. One might think the lands were ideal to settle upon, yet there were some resources lacking that left the thought uncultured. Wolf and fodder would have to travel far to find a source of water or proper light. This haven was little more than a resting place at best.

Yet in terms of life, there was something more alive stirring in the forest, or so she could hear. A predatory grumble sounded just a little ways out from where she paused, bringing both ears forward as concerned marred her face. Lush tail once resting at her heels curled upward to attention as the scowl of bother lowered her brows over bi-colored eyes. Her own voice was muted save for the sudden and sound bark to alert the aggressive force that they were not alone.

Twisting the sapling to and fro the boy made quick work of rending the unwilling flora from the earth. It sat pitifully in his jaws now, its stalk shorn to chartreuse ribbons, bleeding the milky blood of young timber, and suddenly there was a wave of calm washing over him. Closing his eyes softly a deep exhale escaped from his parted jaws over panting tongue. He reveled in the feeling and suddenly everything was as it should have been.

A quiver slid down his back.

It was not uncommon for him to be comforted by these random and violent exercises of power on occasion. There was nothing quite like feeling in control of a situation, or in control of someone else. For Alpha it was really the only reason to live, the only reason to deal with the rumbling pain his his abdomen. One day he aspired to work his way into a position of extreme power, and he often fantasized about what feats he would be capable of committing once he held such a position. These images swam in his head anytime he met a strange wolf.

A bark cracked through the morning air.
Another shudder rocked his spine.

Without another thought the sapling fell from Alpha's jaws and he trotted off in the direction of the call with a confident swagger to his step, and in what seemed like only moments he emerged from the ferns to find a unique looking female. She was much larger than he was, but that did not faze Alphaeus in the least. Boldly he entered the clearing where she stood and mimicked her call quite arrogantly. You are not alone...
