Each step was as graceful as the last, a bounding of strides as long limbs brought her at a trot throughout the territory of her home. She had moved along these paths time and time again, intent on knowing her home land despite the burning eagerness within her being to venture outward. It had been quite some time since she had mentioned to her Leader that she had caught the scent of her father over the mountains and although Nina had mentioned taking the time to venture there, a set date had not been placed and more importantly, she did not know if she was attending said trip. None the less, she was a happy woman, content on living with her brother Mirren even if her dreams took her to the thoughts of finding her father, mother, and other brother. It was a perfect night of celebration, as well, she thought, as large almond shaped eyes took to staring at the stars. The moon was at it's peak, the stars bright on the clear black sky. An itch stirred in the woman's chest and throat as her silvery and black cloaked shoulders rolled back as she stretched out her willowy limbs before plopping down to the forest floor of her home. Gingery ears folded back against her head as it lift, calling out to the moon above in a beautiful melody of peace and happiness for their prospering pack.

Sleep wouldn't come. No matter how long she laid and tried to ignore the low hum of insects and soft whisper of leaves she couldn't. There was too much on her mind and the night was too beautiful to waste. Summer was coming to an end and soon they would miss these warm, humid nights. With a sigh her eyes looked skyward at the stars peeking through the thicket forest.

A familiar voice filled the night and Iopah's first reaction was concern. She pushed herself to her elbows to look in Vaeta's distant direction. The song continued and her gray-edged ears swept back in relief. Everything was fine and Iopah stilled to listen to the melody. It was beautiful, needing no words to convey its message. But it was missing something.

Eagerly she scrambled to her feet and waited. There was a time when she didn't question her place in a pack, when her only thought was where the next meal came from. There was a time she would do this with her parents, their voices falling and rising all over the mountain. At a lull in the song Iopah let her own voice rise up. Wolves will naturally vary their pitch to avoid to avoid "singing over" another pack mate at an identical pitch. Her own song started out in a burst of emotion, then scaled back to a pitch just higher than the younger woman's. She was singing out to Vaeta and the rest of their family. They were here and they were strong, she wanted the world to know.

For the time being she was joined and joined only by one other member of their pack - the female Second within the ranks and known as a wonderful Hunter to them. She knew little of the woman though as they lived together, of course she would see her time and time again. Her voice continued, dropping low and only rising higher when Iopah took a breath, their melody mingling around one another like a vocal dance. But where was everyone else? Where was her brother and his mate? Her chest heaved, her toes pressing harder into the earth as she sang strong. Perhaps @Nios , wherever he was would hear her? Perhaps her mother?

I know it's short, but theres not too much to say. :x

padded with some 'pretty words', but after this i dunno what to do with her...

In a black sky the moon and stars glittered down, casting a pale shimmer over the forest. The iridescent shimmer sank down into the forest, finding small gaps between the sheltering trees to slip through. It bathed thick, rough bark in a softening glow and edged bracken fronds and ivy leaves in stark silver. Everything from winding paths to slumbering wolves was illuminated in a soft glow.

Iopah shifted in the glow, turning to look up at the exposed roots of the fallen tree she sleep under. Only days after claiming it as her own she'd chewed them off to nubs. They were short and gnarled and a constant nuisance. Bathed in this light they were beautiful. Snagged on a shortened root, twisting in the soft breeze, was a tuft of gray hair. Captivated by the sight she stretched up to touch her nose to it, her song fading slightly with her distraction. It was her own hair, likely plucked from her shoulders as she'd squeezed under the roots every morning. She breathed deep, chest filling with song. She belonged to this land as surely as it belonged to the Woodland wolves.

Vaeta was still singing, her strong voice filling the starlit sky. Iopah lifted her head into the faint glow. Even with her eyes closed Iopah could see light, it flickered against her lids like miniature diamonds. Her jaws parted and the song spilled out. The stronger she sang the brighter the lights seemed to flicker. No one should sleep through such a sight. She sang back to Vaeta, strong and passionate, and the night continued to glitter brightly above. She wanted to turn night into day. She wanted to wake the entire pack to witness the night.

Well hello ladies! :D @Iopah @Vaeta

He moved in silence, his pale coat concealed him in the cloak of darkness that fell over his home as the sound of chirping crickets entered his perked ears. His movements were slow, calculated, as the flicker of lightning bugs guided his path and he knew, as they flew to avoid a collision, that this would be the last few days of summer before fall. He was anxious at what was to come next for Secret Woods, the previous winter had been rough and many lives were lost, relationships that had been molded and carefully crafted were broken but with it brought new beings and this fact brought a smile to his lips. Their pack was strong, though not at its peak, and he would see to it personally that it remained that way.

Mesmerized by the beauty of his home he was caught off guard when a howl erupted into the skies and paused just long enough to interpret its meaning; it was a joyous song for those of the Woods. He bounded toward it, wondering who the voice belonged to and stopped once more to listen as another joined in and it was a pitch higher than the first but he recognized it and quickened his pace to where Iopah was. He fancied the woman, her presence brought about a happiness he had not felt in some time and it was a welcoming feeling he cherished with each meeting they had, he knew that this meeting would be no different.

As he entered the scene, ears perked and listening, he lifted his head to emit his own call and the trio sang for their home, their members, and the surrounding packs so that they knew that their pack remained strong.

It was working. Iopah was sure that the night was brighter than it had been only moments ago. With each chord that passed her lips the sky seemed to spark that much brighter. She'd never seen a night so bright, filled with an incandescent moon and twinkling stars. On a whim, she imaged it was responding to something. Maybe their call was summoning the light? It was a fanciful thought, but Iopah still pressed herself into the cool night air, crying out with all she had. She wanted to test her theory. If her song was persuasive enough how many stars could she summon into existence?

She was mid-chord, pale muzzle lifting while her ears gently angled back, when a deep voice started behind her. It was one she recognized immediately and Iopah spun to greet Koda. Walking quickly to him an enthusiastic wag swayed her movements. Something had changed between them, and even if Iopah did not know where it would lead them she could not bring herself to hold back.

Even as she stepped up to him her song did not stop, though it did lose some of its cohesiveness. It fell from a controlled melody into a series of excited noises. Even from a distant the happiness in her greeting would be clear. She circled around him, gesturing up at the sky with a grin as if to say, 'See what I did?' Coming around to his other side she sat down against him with a sigh and pointed her black nose at the heavens once more. Her voice scaled up once again to dance around his song.

All was silent savor their songs, savor the melody of the Secret Woodland wolves as though all else in the world, big or small, sat quietly to listen to their melody. Though none had yet to join her and the Huntress within the ranks, Vaeta was content to sing with her yet still, a happiness overwhelming her in these moments. She felt so alive, so free in the open air, in the cool breeze.

After some time, finally, another joined them - a much deeper tone, settling under Vaeta's own voice. It was a male but since she had not heard this wolf sing before she was uncertain of whom the voice belonged to. She did not see him, did not scent him, unknowing that he was much more near Iopah then herself. Iopah's tone changed, chipped and excited and Vaeta knew then as the other two sang they were together. The Tainn girl smiled for them and yet, in this moment, wished that her brother was here with her, that they could be together from all the time that had separated them. It was unknown to her that this would be her last happy night within the pack of Secret Woodlands, that her brother and his mate were now gone and she would be left with feeling a horrible loneliness at their sudden departure. For now, however, she was happy enough in the here and now.

I rambled...sorry @Vaeta and @Iopah for taking so long! UPDATED POST!

Their song blended well and a smile crossed the length of his maw at the irony of this meeting. He had wanted the neighbors to know that the Woods was a strong pack --in numbers and in individual physique-- and this meeting between Vaeta and Iopah was enough for any passerby's to realize this. He was especially comfortable with the agouti second and felt his bulk against her slender frame as she began to circle him as if to capture his individual attention, she won it easily as his gaze followed her as she walked. He cast his gaze toward the skies just as she nudged him to direct his attention and he felt a wave of excitement overcome him--this was a feeling he'd never felt before and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

His tone died down momentarily when he thought of Vaeta, he wondered where she was and who she was to the pack but he did not dare leave the side of Iopah, their song blended lovely together and he was glad that the woman and he were hitting it off so well. He was excited over what was to come to their family and nervous of what winter would bring to them, little did he know that within a few short weeks their numbers would dwindle into a scary zone that would make them one of the weaker packs. It was his responsibility, as a second, to keep them together and he would do what he could to keep each of the members strong and fit, he only hoped the others would do what they could to keep the pack just as strong.

Koda! I threw something in there to come up with 250 words! One more post/exit from you and then I'll exit Io out.

She lost herself in the song. There was only the sensation of the warm summer air on her tongue, a sliver of star-light sky between partly lidded eyes and the figure at her side. Even her own voice seemed to fade and shimmer in the face of Koda's deeper chords. That did not stop her enthusiasm, and each lull when he took a breath, her voice was there to fill the gap, clear and sure.

All the worries that had tormented her, kept her from sleep, were gone. Her deep-seated regret was finding less purchase in her mind these days. These wolves had accepted her in, become a family, to the wolf who had left everything. For once she had every thing she needed. She was needed, even wanted.

Koda's voice faded somewhat and Iopah took a breath to fill the space. Her lungs were full of warm night air and her lips pursed to sing out when another howl drifted to them from beyond the borders. It was unfamiliar and faltering with the distant. Iopah froze in surprise to listen, voice finally stilled. It continued for a few notes, then died away. Was a loner or a Black Thorn wolf responding to them? They had not identified themselves and a streak of bold curiosity revealed itself. She rose to her feet, using the lung-full of air to call back with a series of short howls. Her own noises faded away and she cocked her head to listen. But strange wolf had gone silent. Once more she called back, tone louder and more insistent.

No problem! @Iopah
For the briefest of seconds the male found that his voice had begun to lower, the pitch of the tawny woman at his side was the only sound to vibrate against the tufts of his ears as he stood to stare at her, as though mesmerized. Iopah was a strong, bold woman, a figure that stood like a pillar next to him and this realization made him smile inwardly as her song carried across the Lore where it would reach the ears of others at least a mile or so away, he allowed her the stage as he sat in silence, simply watching. It was as a minute ticked by that he lifted his head to begin once more, the sheer force that followed behind his howl carried it out further than his co-ranked woman and he found himself coming closer to her as though this howl would bond them forever. He wanted this, wanted them, and for a moment the area around them was forgotten until another howl joined in.

He could not read the thoughts of his counterpart but as his howl regained stamina he felt himself wondering who was behind the howl and where they were, the reasoning behind their call made him wonder of their purpose and he wondered whether they were of friendly intentions. He could note that the howl was feminine, it was similar in pitch to Iopah's but the youthfulness of this accompanying howl assured him that this wolf was probably of no real threat--in fact, she was of the Woods--and he found that his pitch mimicked the short yips and yelps of Iopah's as their song slowly began to fade. They were a force to be reckoned with, the solid duo of the Woods, and he was grateful that she had accepted him as her partner, it spoke volumes of her trust for him and his loyalty and trust for her had grown as well. This date would forever seal their loyalty to Secret Woods and to each other and he confident of this....
