Patchy rain nearby — 33° F/0° C | Late Night/Early Morning 1 AM @Enoki

He was restless. He had laid in the den with his brothers for most of the night but his eyes were still wide open looking out into the darkness. It was cloudy out letting the moon only make a small break through the clouds every now and then. The sound of rain also reached out the the young prince. The boy had been listening to it on and off all night long into the early morning where he laid now. As much as the sound was soothing it did little to put him to sleep.

Pushing himself away from his brothers he slid across the cold ground on the den until his nose stuck out into the dark. Feeling the small droplets of rain fall on his nose he let his tongue roll out of his mouth to lick the drops off. Once his tongue was back inside his mouth he was pushing himself to his feet silently. Creeping out of the den into the dark he made sure to walk on the softest spots so to now make noise.

His paws carried him to one of his favorite places. A large willow tree on the southern borders. The tree was heavily laced with his own scent letting others know that the young prince had claimed this tree as his own. Most of his time, if not learning lessons from the older wolves of the Ridge, was spent here. Nosing around the tree he was looking for his toy he left here. It was a rather large willow branch that he had found fallen from this tree. Finding it just on the other side of the large tree he happily picked it up and pulled it around for a few moments.

After walking around the tree a good five or six times with his branch he decided to lay down with it. Doing what he would normally do with the branch he began to gnaw on the already worn down side of the branch.

Sleep would not be found that night as the newest Ridge wolf found herself trudging along the eastern border of the territory, too many thoughts dancing within her mind to allow sleep to be a thought among them. The autumn season was now upon the land and the leaves of the many tree species were starting to perform their annual autumn foliage, changing the once green leaves of spring and summer to brilliant shades of golden orange and yellow to fiery hues of red. This made for a spectacular display that Enoki enjoyed to watch each year. But with the chill of the night and the light sporadic rainfall that occurred throughout the midnight hours, there was nothing to see. No not tonight. Tonight there was only stillness and restlessness and apparently the Ashrelle woman wasn't the only one struck by the restlessness.

She found herself along the southern boarder now, having decided to put her inability to sleep that night to use and do some good patrolling the territory and remarking the pack boarders while keeping an eye out, the rest of the pack laying nestled in their dens content with sleep and pleasant dreams courtesy of the sandman. Following the southern boarder she took whiff of the air and was perplexed by the odor she scented on the air, the smell belonging to one of the Ridge pups, though she had yet to meet any from the litter. Curious to know why the little prince was awake at such an ungodly hour she set out to its source, following his scent trail until she came upon his tiny form under the drooping branches of a large willow tree. One of its branches evidently was between his paws as he gnawed contently, basking in what little moonlight the clouds allowed to break through.

Not wanting to spook the young wolf she gave a soft woof to alert him of her presence as she closed the distance between them, putting her patrolling on hold for now. Once the distance gap was dwindling to an almost complete close, the Ashrelle woman bent her slender frame down to reach eye level of the young prince, hoping to make him feel more at ease and as if he was an equal rather than a pup. She remembered growing up that she liked when the adults would talk to her in a similar way instead of staring down at her. Hopefully it would have the same effect on him. "What brings you out here so far from your siblings, little one? Princes need their sleep to grow into big and strong kings someday."

It seemed he wasn't alone. A female, he was unsure of her name, appeared and spoke to him. "What brings you out here so far from your siblings, little one? Princes need their sleep to grow into big and strong kings someday." He wagged his tail as she addressed him as a prince. It seemed that finally someone understood his ranking. "I couldn't sleep. The rain was too inviting." Pausing to look at his stick he sighed softly. "Besides, I don't think I'll be king soon." Deacon had already come to terms that his elder and favorite brother @Skoll would probably beat him to being king, after his father Angier of course. The only reason why Deacon wasn't throwing a fit was because it was his favorite brother. He had learn to accept and follow under. Of course somewhere in the back of his mind there was still that bold pup saying that he would grow to be the true king of the Ridge pack. But that was just his mind speaking.

"What are ya doin' out here?" He said with a rather goofy smile on his face. Reaching a paw out Deacon reached out for her dark nose. Trying to lightly bop her nose he giggled. Even though it was rather late at night the dark Archer Lyall boy hoped that she would be willing to play with him. Maybe if they wasted some energy together they both could find themselves worn out and sleeping. It was at least worth a shot.

@Deacon

A light smile now adorned her black lips as the little pup wagged his tail, clearly pleased with her words of endearment and it didn't take long for the Ridge pup to speak up. "I couldn't sleep. The rain was too inviting." he spoke before pausing his words to sigh and glance down at the branch he had wedged between his paws. "Besides, I don't think I'll be king soon." She stood silent as she stole a quick glance upwards toward the sky where clusters of dark tinted clouds moved along, allowing small droplets of water to moisten the length of her muzzle. "I think you will be a mighty king one day. It may not be soon, but every king has his time to rule." She couldn't help but agree with him, the rain was inviting. It gave much appreciated relief from the heat of the day and provided fresh water for all to quench their thirst with as well as boost her mood.

"What are ya doin' out here?" he sprang her own question onto her, a goofy grin now splayed across the countenance of his face as he attempted to swat in a playful manor at the tip of her nose before giggling at his own attempt. "I couldn't sleep either and decided to check the boarders while everyone slept. What's your name, little prince?" Enoki had never been around pups before, but it warmed her heart at the carefree spirit that illuminated from within the young boy even at an ungodly hour such as this. Seeing as the rest of the pack was asleep and there was nothing else for her to do now that her boarder patrol was done she gave in to his demands for a partner in crime. Lowering her upper torso into a bow she parted her jaws to let the tip of her tongue peak between the points of her fangs, her ivory dipped tail swinging in good manor behind her before she inched forward to take a delicate, non-harmful nip at one of his front paws. If play time was what he wanted, then play time she would give him. Who knows, maybe it would help the two find sleep after all.
