Rais Rose
Northern Riddle Heights, Western side, Morning, Mist — 14° F/-10° C
@Athena

Rais's nose glanced over the rough mountain stone and scrubby tufts of grass that peeked out between the rocks.

It had been a while since he'd been up in these mountains, and they didn't look much different. But scent told a different story. A few trails of scent crisscrossed up the foothills, and it looked like quite a few wolves had been making themselves busy up here. There wasn't the deep, permeating stench like a pack would leave, but it was busy nonetheless.

Rais wondered what was bringing wolves up here, especially considering the mountain terrain was dangerous and the prey that could be found up here, namely goats, were a bit of a pain in the ass to hunt. Rais keen nose detected no migrating herds that would bring wolves ambling up into the heights, nor had he seen any scat or rubbed antler velvet on the way that would support that theory. While he hadn't come across any wolves yet, he knew someone, or even several someones were ranging about up here. It was all rather curious, and Rais wouldn't rest until he had an answer for it.

Rais clambered up the side of a steep slope, his lanky and lithe muscled limbs pulling his grey form up to the top of a ridge. He took a deep breath, savoring the cold mountain air as he gazed out at the view the height of the ridge afforded him. Low lying fog filled the wide valley of western Relic Lore, forming a waveless grey ocean with the Riddle Heights serving as its shore.

Rais tipped his head back, unleashing a howl that rose to an apex before slowly dwindling off. Lowering his head, he kept his ears pinned forward as he waited to see who else was wandering the hillside.

Athena Moon

After spending the night at the Lost Lake within the new pack den, she was on her way back towards Whisper Caverns. Taking the way down through Riddle Heights for a change, she kept her head down to shield herself from the misting rain that befell from the clouds above her. The early morning chill didn’t help matters at all either, but her winter coat that has been coming in for a while, shielded her from most of the cold. However, her face was equally protected by thick fur.

It had been long since had been through the Heights, but her pads took the terrain in stride. When she first made her way back to the Lake since her re-acceptance into Whisper Caverns, her paws became bloodied like the first time she came up by the Lake. It had been a while since then, but now with her frequent trips up to her future domain, her paws adjusted and went back to their tough state when she first ruled the Lake.

She knew the others would have a tougher time adjusting to the harsher climate and terrain, but with time that will get used to it and become as good as the mountain goats at climbing the rocky slopes. With ease, she made her way down only the rain hindering her movements as a couple times she lost her footing because of the slick surface that the rain was creating on the rocks. Once winter came and the snow littered the rocks, it’ll be even tougher for her followers to adjust to their surroundings.

Athena wouldn’t be surprised if many of them stayed by the lake to prevent harm to themselves with slipping on the slick surfaces of the rocks. However, once spring came and the snow melted, she would encourage them to explore and get used to the mountain as it could come in handy for them as a weapon and an asset. Not many wolves were practiced in scaling the mountainside and if they could master that skill, they could use it as an advantage if anything bad happened.

As she thought of these things, her thoughts were interrupted by a howl in the distance. They weren’t that far from her actually. Releasing her own howl in return, a low and long song that dwindled off as her triangular ears perked forward to catch any response that would come her way.

Rais Rose

Rais couldn't help but do a little hopping dance when he heard a howl answer him, the long song echoing against the jagged edges of the heights and straight into his furry ears. Rais scampered headfirst down the side of the ridge he had climbed up, sending up a spray of rocks and occasionally skipping as he tried to keep from tumbling. He was excited to see who else was wandering about the heights, and wove down and around the rocky terrain and scrubby pines. Knowing the direction of the call, he let his nose lead him the rest of the way.

Rais found her easily, her snowy white coat standing out against the grey and brown of the mountainside. He slowed his pace, keeping head level with his spine as he approached her. She was a little bit bigger than him, but otherwise unremarkable looking. That is, until he got close enough to see her face. He nearly cringed, but managed to keep his face pleasantly friendly while trying not to stare at the milky hue in her left eye and the jagged split in her lip. Oh dear, he was pretty sure he could see one of her teeth through there, too... Trying to look past the obvious disfigurement, there was something familiar about her, but he couldn't quite place it.

"Hello!" He greeted cheerfully, stopping to stand uphill from her. "You look like you've seen better days," He quipped before continuing with a tilt of his head, "Have we met before?" He asked.
