Xetor Archer
RE- A dead deer was discovered in Hush Meadow

It was a rare day to see Xetor around Hush meadow. He usually made a point to avoid the territory close to Whisper Caverns pack where rumor says Titan had originally come from. However he had promised the dark Thorben a small outing to actually get to know him. Titan had gently nagged him, much to Tor's disgust, to give him a chance instead of writing the boy off as a disrespectful kid. It was only because of the way the others had treated Tor after punishing Titan at the feast that Xetor even allowed himself to say "sure fine..." to Titan's request. He didn't want to be seen as the bad guy in the big picture, especially since he had thought he had been doing the right thing.

Not waiting for Titan to catch up, Xetor strode forward through the meadow hoping a bear might come by and eat him. He really didn't want to be here right now. Turning to gaze at at the small edge of forest that split the meadow from the marsh, Xetor then paused as the scent of a carcass entered his nose. Immediately turning to start off without Titan, Tor headed for the enticing scent.

Winter was in full force, and although the pack had filled all of its caches and hunted whenever it could; it was always good to fill your belly whenever the opportunity arose. This is what held Xetor's concentration right now as he sped off towards a sky filled with ravens.

Titan had finally gotten Xetor to himself. This male was definitely not one of his favorites, however, as Tor was second and he was only some lowly teen; Titan couldn't do much about it. The dark wolf knew though, that his birthday was quickly approaching. He was more confident and wouldn't let those above him bully him like he used to. Though Titan did give respect when it was due. So he had bugged the second to go out with him and gather whatever food they could find for the pack. Making sure not to do anything that Xetor might be able to punish him for, Titan had somehow managed to get across how important it was for them to at least get used to working together. So now here they were.

No, here he was.

Titan looked around for Xetor realizing that the male had left him behind. You damn- he growled under his breath before taking off after the tracks that he knew were the second's. Titan had stopped only for a moment to dig up the remains of a dead meadow vole that some bird must have picked off. Luckily Titan could still see Xetor further ahead of him. Putting on speed, the dark wolf romped through the thick snow barreling straight through the sparkling landscape. Titan noticed Tor change direction his nose pointing him towards Whisper Caverns territory. Changing his own direction to follow the Archer male, the dark Thorben charges after him while the scent of dead deer berates his nose. Titan wasn't totally sure, but it smelled as if the deer might be near his mothers border. Hoping that Xetor had the smarts not to cross it the young male struggles to catch up to his superior."Speech here."

Xetor Archer

Xetor was almost at the carcass when he heard the sound of snow being crushed behind him. His ears catch the heavy foot falls of who he assumed was his hefty pack mate Titan. Slowing to a stop near the southern border of Whisper Caverns pack, Tor was delighted to see that the carcass was only a few leagues away from the border on their side. Not like it mattered though, with the packs being allies he could very well have crossed the border to gorge himself on the carcass. Even if he were to get into trouble for it, Xetor didn't care.

Luckily for him though the dark Archer didn't have to think about that possibility. Instead he straddled the border before turning right to approach the deer carcass. Ravens hopped about, some eying him with interest while others cawed at the wolf in disdain. The head of the deer was gone, where it went the young second had no idea. He stepped closer to its shredded ribs taking a look at where the animals innards should be. Everything had been eaten already, and the place stank of coyote and eagle. The only bits of meat left were clinging to the ribs, legs, back, and neck of the creature. There was enough there for two wolves to gorge if left alone for a while, but that was about it.

Tor planned to eat his fill and not take anything back to the pack. Better to keep himself fit and healthy in case a good hunting opportunity arouse that could help feed the whole pack. Besides there wasn't much they could take back to the pack.

"Stuff yourself and we'll head out to look for more to fill a cache." The comment was cast over his shoulder towards the silver misted black wolf. Then Tor took a place at the rib cage and began gnawing off the slivers of meat on each rib.

Titan Thorben
Titan grudgingly allowed himself to be commanded by the arrogant Archer. He was sick and tired of it, but there was nothing he could do. Or could he?

Amused but also slightly afraid of the thoughts plundering through his head, Titan side stepped the smaller wolf and took a place lower down the carcass. It wasn't easy pickings as the giant male would have to wrench his head this way and that just to get a sliver of meat at a time, but at least he didn't have to chase it down. Watching Xetor struggling to crack a rib, Titan decided to do something stupid.

He was going to show off.

Picking one of the larger ribs that had a bit of meat left on the bottom end, Titan moved his jaws as low as he could get them. He tested the strength of the bone carefully so that when he did break the rib it would look most impressive. Then when he found the weakest point farther down near the spine, Titan tensed himself. His heavy paws anchored the male down to the ice and snow, then he braced himself against the other ribs and bones. With a last look towards Xetor to see the Archer still struggling to get the marrow out of a bone, Titan then yanked hard while crunching his jaws downwards. A loud "SNAP!" followed by the crackling of shattered bone sounded before he pulled away with a long rib bone in his jaws.

It really wasn't that impressive for the bone had been weakened by weather and other animals before Titan had plucked it from the carcass. However neither wolf really knew this, and bones normally were too hard to break without chewing them down till they were thin. Casting Xetor an appraising glance, Titan then trotted away with his prize uninterested in the work that it took to eat from the rest of the carcass. He would eat what was left on his rib and be done with it instead of wasting energy on the sparse deer bones.

Before long the young male had finished off his rib eating the sparse meat, cracking it open to its base, and finishing off the rich marrow inside. Once he was left with broken bones littering the floor before him, the dark caverns prince then stood up and wandered about. He didn't go near Xetor and the deer, though the male kept and eye on the Archer in case he decided to run off without him again. It wasn't long until Titan breathed in the scent of rotting fish coming from someplace.  He turned round about then ran towards the smell. He was certainly going to get the meal there before Xetor did.

Xetor Archer

Xetor was too busy sticking his nose deep into the remains of the deer to notice much scent-wise. He did however see Titan crack a rib right off the skeleton jerking the whole carcass in one direction. Snarling venomously as he held onto a piece of meat, Tor watched as the Thorben held the bone like a valued thing, a prize, and then turned and trotted off with it. Irked beyond reason, Xetor snarled then clawed at a rib and yanked the bit of meat he was holding onto out from just under the back bone.

As Titan's scent faded his anger faded, and soon Xetor was relaxed again while slowly but surely filling his belly. He couldn't smell anything but rotten meat as Tor stuck his head deep into the rib cage to get at the meat by the back bone. He didn't ever see the animal that was creeping up on him.

A hungry wolverine had smelled the carcass from afar. The animal was obviously starving, with its shoulders and hips sticking out at awkward angles. A moderately healthy animal wouldn't have attacked a wolf at a carcass, but this one wasn't healthy at all.

Xetor suddenly felt the powerful grip of something crunching on his back leg. Insane pain wracked his rear right leg as the Archer yelped and tried to quickly turn to get at whatever was hurting him. He banged his head on the sharp ribs effectively giving himself a few nasty cuts and bumps on his head before biting at his attacker.

The stench of wolverine hit his nose as he buried his teeth in the loose fur and flesh of the animal. It wasn't a good hold, and would likely only result in the animal getting angrier, but Xetor wasn't going to let go until it let go of him.

He felt the creatures teeth and powerful jaw muscles snap his leg bone close to his ankle causing Tor to release a cry that turned to a howl for help. He let go of the creatures flesh realizing that it wasn't letting go, then turned to grab at it once more.

This time he got the bastards rear end firmly in his jaws. The wolverine growled and cried as it let go and went for his face. Xetor also let go as his leg was freed and barely avoided the wolverines teeth aimed for his muzzle. Lifting his injured back leg then dancing away from the carcass and the wolverine, Tor snarled dangerously at the creature.

Titan Thorben
Titan was not doing well with fishing. He had scared off the ravens that were picking at the dead fish on land then began eating them. However, after quickly finishing off the remains of catfish, Titan found himself floundering in the puddle trying to catch a live fish. His splashing about had masked much of the noise that Xetor and the wolverine were making. It wasn't until Xetor's howl for help echoed across the land that Titan paused and looked sharply in the direction he had come. He wasn't sure if he had heard correctly, not until dull sounds of snarling confirmed what Titan had thought he heard. Jumping out of the puddle and racing towards the sound of the fight, the dark wolf felt his whole body tense on alert. His muzzle was marred with an ugly snarl as Titan came across the scene.

A wolverine was leaping towards Xetor's face as the Archer fumbled away from the carcass obviously injured. Titan dashed forward circling around the wolverine and smelling the blood that seeped from the wound on its rear. The beast noticed him and tried to turn about to defend itself, but Titan was well aware of its own slow maneuverability. He quickly got behind the wolverine again and grabbed its back with his sharp fangs. His front legs pushed hard against the animal shoving it downwards into the dirt as forcefully as he could. Its angry face choked on dust and snow as it feebly tried to get at the Thorben male. Then soon its roars turned to cries as Titan increased the tightness of his teeth around its back. Ripping skin from the wolverine straight off of its back while pushing it downwards into the snow gave quite a thrill to the yearling. Blood lust mixed with wanting to be dominant over the animal was a potent mixture, and as the creature cried harshly for release Titan found the strength to finally let it go. Jumping back in case the wolverine attacked again Titan watched as the creature darted away as fast as it could aiming for the hills. Hehoped it wouldn't go near his mothers pack. However, the young healer knew that starvation plus the wounds he and Xetor left it would kill the creature within the week.

Turning to glance at Xetor while the male snarled threateningly after the wolverine, Titan sniffed the air around him. Blood was coming from wounds on the mans head and dripping rather quickly. Head wounds always bled a lot, or so he had been told by somebody.

"Are you feeling alright?" The question slipped through his lips before Titan thought not to ask it. It was obvious that Xetor was in immense pain. skipping around the Archer so as not to get a bite to the face, Titan then paused near the Archer's leg.

Certainly it was not supposed to look like that.

The Thorben's belly cringed as he surveyed the damage done by the wolverines jaws. He hadn't realized just how powerful the other creatures teeth were. Now the Thorben knew what creature was to blaim for shattered ribs or leg bones at a carcass. Not coyote or wolf could do something like this. Tor's lower back leg had to be broken in at least three places and Titan had no idea how to help. For once he looked upon the Archer full of concern and helplessness.

Xetor Archer
WARNING LANGUAGE WORSE THAN NORMAL FOR XETOR!

Xetor hadn't stopped growling and snarling. Not even when Titan had expertly dispatched their foe the wolverine and sent it on its way. Xetor's whimpering cries were mixed between snarls and curses as he fumbled around on three legs. It wasn't until Titan turned back to look at him that the Archer fell to the ground delirious from the pain. He huffed quickly and began to feel dizzy before remembering not to hyperventilate. With a lot of effort Xetor forced himself to slow his breathing despite the fact that he knew he was going into shock from his wounds. He blinked back furious anger after barely hearing Titan's words.

"YOU FUCKING TWIT! GET YOUR HEAD OUTA YOUR ASS AND BREAK YOUR OWN LEG FOR ME!" The dark wolf roared his reply at the yearling's idiotic question. Was he hurting... Of course he was! Xetor huffed loudly as he picked up his head and followed Titan's concerned gaze to his leg.

Yeah... I'm going to be in more pain rather soon... With this greenhorn straightening it and fixing up the cast. His thoughts brought an even darker mood to the Archers distraught face. Xetor really didn't want Elettra to find out about this. If she did he would almost certainly be dropped down to the lowest ranking until he healed up and fought for his position again. Perhaps he could heal up in his own medicinal den? It would make for painful travel trying to get there, and he wouldn't even attempt walking on three legs until his leg was steady inside a dried out birch bark cast.

"Don't look at me like that, how bout you make yourself useful and find a bunch of long pieces of birch bark. There should be some of those papery trees on the edges of hush meadow and the forest. Take as much as you can carry, then thoroughly wet them in water until they are loose and soggy. Then bring them back to me. I'll tell you what to do afterwards..." Tor was lucky that he had been taught how to work with sprains, breaks, and wrenched limbs back in the empire. It was the herbs he didn't know too many of. Despite not wanting to be a healer the knowledge that had been forced upon him was becoming rather useful.
