Kite Tainn
@Mirren ! surprise fred

Kite was growing in girth, and had been spending a lot of her time with her mate and nesting. She would pace around, fret, and go back and lay down. She was restless. It was relatively clear by now that what she and Mirren had done resulted in their future together. She suffered weight gain, but no sickness as of yet. To say she was self conscious was an understatement; she was as she had never in her life been before, and doing activities that she had always done were different.

So, on this day, Kite was sulky. Her mood swings were something to look out for, and the past week there had been no sang-froid for her. Presently, the wolf paced back-and-forth, cramping and whimpering grumpily. She did not know what the real issue was, except for the fact that she was nervous. Nervous, feeling thicker than usual and so, not so herself, and cramping.

Each day that passed made his path in life increasingly clear. His rise had been quick and with it had come a momentous weight to balance on his shoulders. He had tasked himself with making things right within the Woodlands ─ mending all the things that had been broken over the winter, including the emotional damage that had been done to Nina ─ which would, in time, prove to be no small feat; he was also dealing with a threat that quite honestly still remained to be seen, although the Black Thorn wolves had left an obvious message right on their doorstep. He still couldn't quite fit the pieces to that puzzle together. Why would they bother? And why Secret Woodlands? They'd always been a peaceful family, staying to themselves in the shadows of the thicket for years. He'd never personally had any contact with the pack from Blackberry Fields, but he also didn't know who among them had. As mysterious as the meaning of the message left at their borders was, he didn't fight the feeling that something ominous was in store for them all.

However...

Despite the responsibilities and possibilities of dark things looming on the horizon, and despite the quiet emptiness that was Secret Woodlands currently, and despite the sum of all the things that troubled him, there was Kite. Always there was Kite. Not a single day went by that Mirren didn't thank whatever higher powers might exist that he had her by his side. These days it was easy to feel so heavy, but one look at her, one thought of her smile, one moment of reminiscence of the days they'd shared before he'd really grown up, was all it took to ease his mind. She was his hub of positivity, a star all her own to shine her light over him, and now she carried his heirs in her growing belly. Mirren loved Kite as much as he'd ever loved anything, and he had it in mind to let her know just that today.

Prowling through the Thicket with the den they'd made together those months ago in sight, the Tainn moved with pep in his step. The smell of her and her pregnancy filled the air, mixed with the damp, earthen scent of the forest he loved and he breathed it in deeply. This early in the evening, he was sure that she'd be home by now. "Kite?"
