@Anthem -- backdated for 5/22, early evening. Any other packmates welcome!
Once she was further away from the natal den, Desideria shifted from a stealthy walk to an easy lope. The scent of the pines lining the territory was thick in the air, but it could not hide the telltale perfume of a small herd of deer wandering nearby. They'd flown too close to the sun, and soon one of them would end up burnt. Once she felt she was far enough away from Namid and her puppies, the tawny timber wolf slowly to a halt, and pressed her nose to the sky. Wriggling it, she noted the musky scent of the ungulates was heavier here. They were getting closer. She dare not bark for her packmates, lest she startle the deer before the hunt could begin. Instead, she settled down in the fallen pines, her light coat blending in well amongst the trunks of trees. Her ears swiveled on her head like little radar dishes, listening for any further sign of the prey, or of her packmates approaching. It was not her idea to hunt, and she had no desire to take over the lead in this. Hunting small prey was her forte. Well, no, stealing was her true forte, but she was trying to change these things. When another wolf approached, she lifted her head, waiting for her packmate to come close enough to whisper. "I can hear them. I'm not-- Never hunted a deer before, but I've hunted a lot of small things. I can flush it out towards you though, I'm good at that. Just give the word." |
