Denim eyes widened as they watched Jessie take a bite of the hare. Her head titled in confusion and curiosity as the Rye queen demonstrated how to eat it. "See, not so bad?" She asked but Vasi wasnt having it. She stuck her tongue out again as she stamped her paws at the leg. Nope. She was gonna drink mama's milk for the rest of her life. She was curious though what the liquid dripping from the womans chin was. "Was that?" she asked stepping to the salt and pepper woman sniffing at her chin.
Lisa would learn one day. Eventually, her mother's milk would not be enough to sustain her and the child would need more. Jessie would not push her though. It was certainly not her place to and she did not want the child going back to tell Adelayde that the Rye Queen had forced her to do anything, because that certainly wasn't true. The monochrome woman finished her piece in silence, emerald eyes moving up to meet puppy blue eyes when she spoke. It took all of Jessie's self-restraint not to jerk away from the tawny girl. Instead, the pepper-and-salt colored woman rose into a sitting position. Her voice was smooth when she spoke, answer terse, "It's blood." There was no point in lying and the more curious the girl was now, the better. |
The liquid didnt smell like mama's milk, it wasnt the same color either but it rolled off Jessie's chin just like her mothers milk had off her and her brother's chin. The child moved closer as the Rye queen sat up, her tiny cream muzzle reaching up to get a better sniff. "Its blood" was the answer to the fae's inquiry. "Bud" Vasi repeated committing the word to memory. This whole learning thing was becoming increasingly interesting and fun for the pup.
The woman watched the pup in amusement. Jessie could not remember a time when she was so curious and filled with light. It was refreshing, especially considering all the depressing shit that Wild Rye Fields had been going through since its founding. Originally, the lead pair had been hoping to establish the pack based on hope and new beginnings. None of those things had really happened - at least in Jessie's case. She felt as if every time she almost got to that point, something else came up to drag her back down. The monochrome woman smiled at Vasilisa, her tail wagging behind her. The Rye Queen nodded her head in encouragement when the little girl spoke, glad that there was improvement. Feeling like they accomplished something today, the Tainn felt as if it was time to head in, "Good job, Lisa. Now let's head back to the den. It's getting late." It was not a lie. The sun was starting to set and Jessie had no doubt that the pup would be yawning at any time now. |
Her attempt was congratulated by the monochrome woman and her tiny tawny tail wagged excitedly behind her. Having no concept of time the pup, she didnt realize it was getting late. She was too busy learning to be tir- nope there it was. That dreaded yawn came as soon as the mention of bed was made. "I's no tirds" she tried to convince Jessie unsuccessfully. She was definitely tired now.
All children seemed to be just as stubborn as the next. Lisa let out a large yawn followed by deep denial of her body's wishes. Now that she was older, Jessie wished she had taken advantaged she had as a children to take naps and sleep the day away. There was no time for her to do that. The Rye Queen shook her head at Adelayde's daughter and started in the direction of the pack den, a small smile on her lips. "You keep telling yourself that, Vasilisa, but I'm sure your mother would like to see you." The two walked back to the pack den in silence, with a word here and there and Jessie was glad to say that she had enjoyed the tawny girl's company. |
