As Tomen approached and pressed his nose against her, Pip lifted her head and turned to give him an appreciative lick, ears still sullenly resting against the back of her neck when she heard his whispered words. It warmed her to know he had at least put forth the effort, to show concern for her siblings, and treat them like pack even when they themselves had acted as outsiders simply sharing territory. Pip settled her head once more on her paws.
At least putting some effort into listening, orange eyes flicked over to where their new member sat. Would he stay? It seemed there was some kind of curse over the Hollow that encouraged wolves to leave after a time. With each departure, they took a piece of her heart with them. Though Pip knew she would survive her siblings' betrayal, it still felt as if they'd taken the lion's share of her heart. But if that were the case, she should feel empty. Instead, she felt only sorrow.
It hurt to have words confirm what her heart already knew. As if Yvly's revelation made it all the more real, any last kindling of hope was dashed away and thrown to the wind. Her eyes fell to her paws so she missed her leader's eyes falling on her. She wouldn't have wanted to meet her gaze anyway. Pip wanted to stand and pad away. The rest of this meeting was hardly something she could participate in and not something she would have cared to discuss anyway during such a time. But that would be beyond disrespectful, so she continued to lay there and hope for it to be over quickly.
