The planet was washed anew in the light of a setting sun. Gentle rays shining down through the leaves of towering trees. Casting his aimless path eastward in a warm glow of yellows and greens. Yet the sight - no matter how beautiful, was not in his interest. For he could hear the chatter of birds echoing against hard surfaces, a garbled tune. With it came the fainter noises of trickling water. A faraway sound that he struggled to pick out from the rest that came with the forest. It drew him near with its oddities. And as he broke across the treeline it stole away his breath with a soft gasp.
It was as if the earth itself had risen from its dormant slumber. Letting its solid dirt give way to crumbling darkness, all as it took to swallowing animals and plants alike in a catastrophic wake. His paws danced along the ground as he approached the lip of the chasm. Anticipation and a sense of giddiness flooded his system, tension forming in his muscles. Because he could imagine it. He could see and feel the rumbling quake as the planet came alive. And even now if the land had settled, remnants of the chaos preserved. His body quivered with energy as his fore paws teased the abrupt edge of the sinkhole. From its depths came an earthen scent, one that wafted upwards in great bellows of air. The planet was alive and breathing, no longer just a faraway hum that rattled on the insides of his bones. He gazed upon its glory with wild eyes, all while shaky breaths rattled in his chest. Threatening to make him do something drastic, he forced himself back. Away from the edge that told him to jump lest he never get another chance at it.
