Odin Archer
had a one way ticket to the place where all the demons go
Odin Archer

An ear turned towards Leotie as she spoke though the words came though fuzzy. The sound of the antlers creaking and scraping, the heavy breathing of the stags, they were getting into his head. Tearing his eye away from them for just a moment he caught Adeltra's smile and breathed in deeply through his nose. Now wasn't the time to be spacing out.

The left one, was straightforward enough, though he wasn't sure how he felt about leaving the second one to the near yearling to finish. It was in the dying moments that they could be their most dangerous, but he didn't feel confident enough to speak up either, instead, moving to shadow his aunt and coming up on the back side of the intended target. He would move a bit closer to the stags flank, biting at the delicate flesh where rib turned to soft stomach, yanking with all his might, a twisted game of tug o' war breaking out with the second stag who was suddenly staring down his fate if he couldn't break free.

Hunting Dem 3/?

not looking for some fairytale bliss

Leotie had no doubt that the young Archer had plenty of experience hunting smaller prey. She'd seen the girl on more than one occasion doing her part for the pack. Larger prey was a different story, it took practice and since many times it often took two or more wolves she would also been to know how to work in a group. She was happy for Adeltra to have this opportunity, it wasn't one that came around very often.Leotie had suggested that Sven lead in this hunt, she'd merely brought the pack together so that they could take advantage of such a gift. She listened as he spoke of what they should do. As he said that Adeltra could finish off the second once it was incapacitated she gave the girl a small bump to her shoulder and a smile to encourage her.

Sven declared that they should take the left one out first which Leotie had no problems with. As she'd watched the stags battling it out she'd been able to tell that one was the weaker one. It would be better if they took it out and counting on the antlers becoming dislodged would put them at an advantage over the second deer.

She was right behind Ravenna and Sven as they moved forward toward the stags. She came up on the opposite side of the buck as Ravenna and began searching for the best place to attack. She managed to sink her teeth into a place just behind it's elbow and pulling to hopefully leave a large bleeding wound. She was mindful of the antlers as she made her attack.

Adeltra Archer
Hunting dem 3/3

The Archer was glad to see Odin snap out of his panic. She could tell he’d been struggling, but he wasn’t alone. They were there to help, there as a group and none of them would let anything happen to any of them. Sven’s words caught her attention and she turned to look at him in surprise. Her, finish one off? Some that big? Could...could she really do it? Uncertainty shone in her honey amber gaze but as she looked over at Ravenna she tried to remember her namesakes. Two of the most powerful women that had ever lived. She would not back down. A strong nod bobbed her head, then with a woosh of air the adults were off.

She knew that she was made to stay back and watch, observe instead of put herself into danger because the fact was that she was still much too small to be turned into the fray. So, she did as instructed and watched. Watches as they barked and charged, swerving and dipping in an attempt to intimidate both bucks even though they were currently aiming for the left. Odin was laying into it, nipping at delicate flesh. They were all doing such a good job, she couldn’t help the bark of encouragement that left her jaws.

the devil is & always will

With so many wolves converging on the gravely-disadvantaged buck at once, the bleating beast did not last long. Its legs buckled as its flesh was torn, and its blood caused the ground to steam heavily amidst the wolves' scrabbling paws. Its kin continued to panic, twisting their lodged antlers with such severity that it might have aided in the pack's efforts to kill. Regardless of what it was that finally stopped the stag's heart from beating, it soon ragdolled, its heavy body moving only by extension of the second deer's flailing.

Without the other's hooves digging in, the second buck was able to attempt to run, but the carcass it was attached to slowed its clumsy efforts and Sven was quick to lead the others into cutting off any and all escape routes. Again he charged forward and began a barrage of nips and bites, but this time the goal was not to kill. Only when the stag was brought to the ground, bloodied chest heaving but spirit gone, would Sven called off the others with a sharp bark.

Panting, he made his way to Adeltra's side.

"They're prey, but they're dangerous," he informed her, unaware still that she and Odin had seen this fact firstpaw, "their hooves and antlers can kill easily. Always be ready to dodge away, tire it down until its strength is all but gone, and then," he nudged her forward. The rest of the pack was expected to stay near and vigilant, incase something went awry.

"Open its throat."

be a gentleman.

Ravenna Archer-Lyall
hunt 3/3

Everyone took action at Sven's command, Ravenna having placed herself behind the buck. Odin struck to his side and Leotie biting at his elbow. As Ravenna had first came around the back end she was more or less a distraction, making the weaker buck panic in knowing that someone was there behind him - danger, and in being stuck head to head with another buck was unable to turn around and see what was going on. Ravenna did not aim for any hold like Odin, but instead snapped, biting at his rump in multiple places, his hips, making slices to bleed him out. Already tired from the fight and in panic from being stuck it did not take long for the buck to die. Was in heart failure which did it, blood loss from the multiple wounds he had taken in such a quick amount of time without being able to dodge the wolves? Or even was it the flailing and bucking of the other deer who may have snapped his opponents neck in the struggle?

Either way, Ravenna's attention pulled away from the fallen deer as it collapsed to the ground. Her stomach growled, licking her lips and the taste of blood calling her. But she couldn't eat, not yet at least. The larger, stronger buck of the two struggled with getting dislodged but then he was off. Sven blocked his path, Ravenna followed behind along with her fellow pack mates. Once more she takes the rear, circling around at the deer circled while it tried to ward off the predators. She struck it's hips and rump as she did the first buck, slicing at tender bits that would leave him severely bleeding.

And then he was down and not a moment too soon either. The taste of taking down both deer was tiring, to say the least. It would have been an impossible effort in other circumstances though that did not mean that the effort of the hunt did not ware her down. She backed away and though her legs shaked by both being tired and by being excited for the hunt, she did not sit. She watched intensely, her tongue licking over her bloodied maw, as she awaited for Adeltra to take on the final assault.

Sides were heaving as they moved to the second buck, the beast putting up a valiant fight as he tried to shake the dead weight off his head without much sucess. Odin took his cues from Ravenna, moving to the back of the second buck to hinder its attempts at escape, happy to throw his weight into slowing the large animal down enough for the others to land the hits they needed to make it safe for Adeltra. When they were called off he was more reluctant to put distance between them, the strong scent of blood in the air and the knowledge of Adeltras age keeping him close at hand in case he needed to spring in, as Wraith had done to protect Cryil just weeks before.

not looking for some fairytale bliss

The pack had converged on the weaker of the deer and the bite to the elbow had opened a wound that bled profusely. Still the buck had remained up until the efforts of the rest of her pack and perhaps the other buck finally brought him down. Once his heart stopped he became dead weight for his opponent but an advantage to the ridge wolves.

She'd taken up a similar position with the second buck this time to do some damage but not enough that it would kill the buck. A couple hard bites to the area just above his hoove would make it very hard to get around. Those delivered and the help of her pack mates he too was soon on the ground.

A sharp bark from Sven and she backed away licking the blood off her lips. She sat back on her haunches but ready to jump up if necessary. Her sides heaved with the exhaustion of the hunt as she watched what was to transpire next. It was time for Addy to deliver the final blow.

Adeltra Archer

It felt like seconds had gone by from the time that the hunt had started until the first buck was down, slowing the other as it made an attempt at a run while dragging the dead deer. It was a morbid scene, really, but she didn’t look away in fear that she would miss something important. She took in everything with her bright, intelligent honey-amber gaze. Sven leading the charge once again, Ravenna acting as a burly herder, Odin throwing his weight into it, and Leotie enacting nips here and there. They were like a well oiled machine, proficient in their movements and quick to get everything turned the way they wanted it to.

Her auds perked as Sven came toward her, her attention focusing on him as he spoke with serious eyes. Of course she had figured that, even with it on the ground, there was still a chance it could hurt her or them. Instinct was a strong thing, especially when it came to fighting for one’s life. It existed in every living being, the stag being certainly no exception. She knew that if it saw a chance to escape, it would take it. It was the way the world turned. Addy nodded to her cousin in understanding, her expression serious to show that she understood what he was saying. The girl trailed along down the slope, getting closer to the pinned animal.

It watched her with understandably weary eyes, a certain knowledge within their depths of what was about to transpire. She dipped her muzzle toward the animal, nostrils twitching as she sniffed. It tossed it’s head at her and she skittered back in order to avoid the antlers, though it made no attempt to get to its feet. It had no strength except to move its head, but that could still be dangerous. Yet, she stayed at the front because she knew that was where she needed to be. She carefully watched it’s movements, pacing and occasionally reaching in to nip and watch what its reaction told her. Most of them ended with her avoiding being skewered by the bony appendages, but after another attempt she noticed a small difference. It wasn’t able to move its head one way as much as the other, likely due to an injury around the shoulder or neck. It left a small opening, and if she was quick enough she would be able to sneak beneath the wrack before it would get her.

The girl feigned to the side before quickly lunging forward, her teeth finding purchase on its lower windpipe and jugular. She held on for dear life as the massive animal began to thrash, her own body whipping around and dropping and rising to try and keep up with the movements. The more it fought, however, the more blood that it lost and the weaker it became. Her dark mouth, cheeks, neck, and chest were coated in the perfume of death and she blew the liquid from her nostrils in an attempt to keep breathing. Her head thrashed, tearing the muscle strands and slowly digging further into the windpipe until it was gasping, an odd honking noise escaping as it exhaled before its head fell and laid still. It took a few more moments before it would move no more.

Finally, she released her hold and sat back with her chest heaving. She worked her jaw around in an attempt to loosen it from the stiffness after her death hold. Still, she held the bright grin of victory on her cheeks. She’d done it.

She watched as her cousins gazed at her with pride, her tail swishing happily behind her thick frame. She accepted the congratulations with a dip of her head, rising to her legs as orders were given to move the carcass. She was quick to sink her teeth once again in the flesh, waiting for the signal before they began dragging it back to the territory where she’d happily show her father and Romanov what she’d accomplished.
