For once, Aubine was able to tiptoe away, leaving her assumedly asleep brother behind in their little sanctuary of a {temporary} sleeping place. Her feet swift and her footsteps light across the damp and still-frozen forest floor, she ran. She traversed the northern part of the pack borders with ease, prancing and gamboling about as she dared. The morning would be upon her soon enough and she was going to enjoy every bit of the darkness before she had to 'put on a show' for her brother and their packmates.
Only when she could feel the rising Spring sun on her face did she stop in absolute awe. A scattering of sunbeams shone through the boughs above, desperately trying to warm frost-bitten ferns below. She stepped into the light, poise and grace becoming her as her face angled up into the sunbeams and her tail curved up and away from her dirtied heels. She had craved this for so long, it was almost as if she had forgotten what the sun rise was like. For a time, she remained this way like a freshly-bloomed morning glory in her own personal spotlight.
Air seemed to fill her lungs. The earth beneath her felt alive again. Everything seemed right in the world until... she heaved a happy sigh, but behind her lids she saw the morning light dim and fade away. It left her again in shadow. Her now dull gold eyes fluttered open and she sniffed as she glanced about, unsure if she had heard something in the distance.
