Guiness Thorben
Journeys always had an ending to them, but most of them always had a new beginning tied to them. This seemed to be the case with young Tempest and Guiness. They had gotten to their first milestone. . .finally finding Relic Lore. It seemed their peace would not end here though. . .it never did with the two of them. They were like the dynamic duo. . .their adventures and fun never did truly end. His golden amber eyes remained solely on his sister, looking around the area, just to get a quick look at his surroundings every once and awhile. He was her guardian, and his life was going to remain on that for quite awhile. After finding out about the rogue pack killing his sire he had to stay with his sister to protect her, for he didn’t want her to travel alone and with no protection but his own.

He didn’t trust anyone else for the job and he was highly devoted to his sister. They were family and he would never deny that fact. They loved each other and would stay truthful to one another for their entire lives. His loyalty was all given to her at the moment. He was her giant and they wouldn’t separate. . .at least, they didn’t plan on separating any time soon. His head soon raised away from his sister, but only slightly, when they both came upon a large area of water. His amber eyes sparkled in delight at the scene and his red creamy fur darkened with the shaded trees around them.

Perhaps soon they would have a place to call home, together they could find the place. The place that could be their sanctuary once again. His kind eyes swept back over Tempest quickly, searching her for any opinions she might have on the lands. She was their voice and he was the one that would stay in the background, keeping his eyes on Tem and watching out for any dangers. Nothing would ever be able to touch his sister, he would never allow it.

<blockquote>Tempest was lost in thought as they traveled the last stretch to the land others referred to as Relic Lore. She did not worry for her safety for her brother Guiness was by her side, as ever, and she pitied the creature that tried to do them harm. He was huge, strong and utterly devoted to her. He would take on a bear to keep her safe and she loved him dearly for it. So it was that she was free to ponder where they were headed, both literally and figuratively.

The past months had brought them out of their birth lands in the Yukon on the trail of their younger brother, Sloane. Neither had seen their sibling in just over a year, having thought that he perished in the takeover. Happily, that was not the case. Word came to her of her brother's victory over the rogues that had ambushed and murdered her father. She, herself, had taken one of them out when he thought to take advantage of her, but she had run away from all the pain of her family's destruction. Guiness had found her and was even more protective than before. Now, they were finally entering the lands that their baby brother had migrated to. The plan was to find him and the rest, well... it would take care of itself. Finding Sloane was priority.

She felt Guiness' questioning gaze upon her and realized that they had come to a large, beautiful lake. There was no one around them, save the songbirds in the nearby trees and the fish, unseen beneath the unblemished surface of the water. Giving her brother a look of pleasure she said, <b>"This will be a wonderful place to rest and recuperate, before we continue our search."</b> With a little luck, she might catch some fish for them later. She loved to swim and was actually quite good at fishing, having the patience that most wolves lacked for the task. She walked up to the water's edge and began to lap at the crisp cool water, immediately feeling much refreshed.

She was already starting to feel at home here and was excited to see what else awaited them in Relic Lore. She lay down on the shore with just the pads of her front paws submerged in the clear water. Her bright amber eyes were lit with the excitement of what lay ahead of them, seeing new places and perhaps meeting new wolves. Who knew what the future would bring for the recently transplanted Thorbens?</blockquote>

His sister’s eyes soon rested on him and he gave a soft, kind smile to her. She seemed to finally realize where they were and gave him their next points of action. They would stay here to rest for a short while and he were to respect that. His paws followed her as she made her way towards the large waterfront and he too lapped up a small amount of water before his head lifted back up to watch the area around them. He had become much more protective over his sister once they had disbanded from their old pack. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but right now they would be perfectly fine. They would, hopefully, soon find Sloane and be reunited with their brother.

His golden amber eyes continuously scanned the area, waiting patiently for his sister to speak again. He wasn’t a wolf of many words, but spoke when it was needed. Perfect example being, if another wolf that was intimidating to his sister, he would be the one to speak and not his sister. The problem was. . .not many things frightened his sister. . .but in his eyes, it was almost as if every wolf they would encounter was a danger to them.

His red ears pricked accordingly, listening for any other sign of life. But at the moment, it seemed that they were lucky, because there was no scent or sound that indicated another sign of life. The only thing he could hear was she soft laps of water coming from his sister. The sound was peaceful, and he moved over so that his shoulder fur was brushing gently against hers.

<blockquote>Tempest felt comforted when Guiness approached and the fur of his shoulder brushed against hers and gave him a soft smile. They were far closer than most siblings because of all that they had survived together. Thorbens were known for honor and loyalty, especially to family, but their bond had been tempered in the fires of tragedy and was unbreakable. She and Guiness were a perfect team now, after a year of honing each of their talents. She was typically that one that took the lead in the decision making, but he was always the leader when it came to protection. She was a very self-assured wolf, stronger and larger than most females, but he was her very own body guard despite those facts. The bear of a wolf would have it no other way.

After relaxing for a while, Tempest's belly began to rumble she decided to see if she could catch them a meal. When she waded out into the water, the urge to just jump in and swim took over and she gave in to it, delighted to let go for a while, knowing that Guiness had her back. She paddled around in a random pattern, thrilling in the feel of her long strong legs propelling her through the cold water. Then she moved to the shallows where she could touch bottom and dunked her head a few times with her eyes closed tightly and holding her breath. She gave an indelicate snort to free her nose of the little bit of water that had tried to creep in. Walking forward until only her ankles remained in the water, she gave a powerful shake, spraying water in all directions. Now her longish coat spiked out in all directions and she looked twice her size for the moment.

With a sigh, Tempest moved to another spot of the lagoon. As much as she had enjoyed herself, she knew that she had scared away any fish that might have been where she swam. Now in a new location, she waded out until her legs and the lowest portion of her torso were submerged and waited. Her body was as still as a statue, only the longer fur that was submerged in the water moving gently. The minutes ticked slowly by and still she didn't move. Finally, a glint of silver reflected off of several medium sized fish that were approaching the shallows in search of the schools of tiny fish that inhabited it. She gave a ghost of a smile as one swam directly beneath her, but still she didn't move. After what seemed an eternity, one of them swam in front of her, almost under her nose. With lightning speed, her head plunged into the water and her gleaming razor sharp fangs sank into the sides of the scaly creature. With a practiced fling of her head, she tossed the thing onto the shore, trusting that Guiness would not let it flop back into the water.

Half hour later, she had repeated the process four more times and they could finally sit down to eat the bounty offered up by the beautiful lagoon. She pushed the three largest to Guiness and lay down to enjoy her own two fresh fish, quite satisfied with herself.

Soon it seemed Tempest had made her decision to stay put for awhile, and soon his sister was out in the large lagoon. His golden amber eyes remained solely on her back as she made her way to the middle. It seemed she was generally enjoying herself. . .and that one fact brought joy to Gui. His movements followed hers. . .he knew how it worked. She would catch something and he would take the death blow to make sure that their food wouldn’t flop back into the water just as soon as she had caught it. Finally, when it seemed as though they had been standing there for hours on end, a splash alerted him on the first catch. His movements were quick, and the thrown fish was soon in his jaws, crushing down on his sister’s catch, breaking its bones and killing it.

The process continued for more treacherous hours until finally his sister was determined that the catches were enough for them. His red ears twitched as his sister finally was in front of him. With a small smile at her he licked her cheek in thanks. With an arched eyebrow at the amount he got, he returned one of the three fish that she had given him. She would need the meat more than he would. She had been the one in the water for hours, but him. He had simply sat on his behind and waited. His jaws soon plunged into the first fish, taking his time to chew and swallow the piece he had bitten off. He was thankful for his sister letting him hand around. He would protect her no matter what.

<blockquote>Tempest was tired after all of the fishing. It really hadn't taken that long, but her muscles ached from holding so still to lure their dinner close enough to catch. You could typically catch a rabbit or two much faster, but the change in menu was always welcome. When Guiness shoved one of the fish back her way, she just huffed at him. He was always generous to a fault. She knew what he was thinking, that she'd done all of the work, but her was their main protection and he was, well... <i>massive</i>. It took a lot to sustain all of that bulk and she well knew it.

With a contented sigh, she lay down near her brother and enjoyed her fish. The only thing that she wasn't so fond of with eating fish was the <span class='word'>integument</span> of scales. Sometimes they got stuck in her teeth and irked her, but she still deemed the whole venture worth it, scales or no scales. When she got to the third fish she deftly bit it in half and chucked the front half back towards her brother before finishing her half with satisfaction. <i>Compromise was always a good thing,</i> she laughed to herself. Then she licked her chops before looking around thoughtfully once more. They had been on their brother's trail for months now and she just <i>knew</i> that they were getting close.

Turning to Guiness she said, <b>"I am sure that we are getting closer now. Our family will be reunited soon, Guiness."</b> A pitifully and tiny portion of their once great family, but family nonetheless. Ever since learning that Sloane had gained vengeance for their father, by killing his murderer, Tempest had known that they had to find him. There was never any question about it and Guiness had been behind her from the beginning in this quest. He was as loyal and devoted as they came and she was proud to be his sister. She was also quite anxious to see the wolf that her young, gangly brother had grown into. </blockquote>

He ate in silence with his sister, satisfied that she had taken the other fish without complaint. He was not one to eat at a fast tempo. . .so when half of the fish he had given came flying towards his face he gave a blink of surprise. The surprise soon turned into blunt annoyance. His sister was never one to take things that he would give her easily. It was as if almost everything he did was wrong one way or another. But he didn’t mind it. . .for he knew his sister would be the one to correct him and help him fix his mistakes. . .and this would be one of those things he would just have to take graciously and hope that she would have enough food to sustain her.

The rest of his meal was eaten in silence, his golden amber eyes fixated on his sister. When he came to the last half he gave his sister a quick look of thanks before eating the rest. It seemed, as always, she had been the one to finish first, and that perhaps she was ready to move forwards in their journey. She seemed to be thinking deeply into something, so Guiness simply sat up and wagged his tail slightly as he waited for his sister’s words, if she would, by any chance, have any. The pair wasn’t one of many words, and Guiness rarely spoke unless it was needed.

When his sister’s words echoed in his ears a small smile spread over his handsome features. Sloane. . .he had missed his younger brother, and finally his sister had made the decision. They were close. . .what would happen when they found their younger brother was unknown at the time being. But it seemed as though his sister wasn’t ready to move yet. . .or she was waiting for his answer. He simply nodded his head in encouragement before twitching his ears in show that he had indeed heard her. Perhaps their trip would be cut short by something else though. . .and whoever that happened to be wouldn’t be happy about meeting him.

<blockquote>Tempest smiled at her silent brother. His wordless acknowledgement was enough. After all of this time together, they were hardly necessary between them. They trusted each other and worked well as a team. Gui waited for her to make the next call on their destination. She had to decide whether they bunked here for the rest of the afternoon and night or move them further into this land that their brother had traversed.

As she weighed the pros and cons, she took in the land around her and couldn't help but admire it's wild beauty. This place definitely appealed to her and she was looking forward to seeing more of it. Something about this lake called to her and she felt inclined to stay a while. Sloane wouldn't be much farthur for them spending a few extra hours here and it soothed her tired soul. She would never admit her emotional exaustion to anyone, especially Guiness. He would worry needlessly and she would get over it. A short break would likely do wonders and she'd be ready to attack the word head on with her usual gusto.

<b>"Gui, we shall stay here for the night and move on in the morning. Perhaps after a hunt together!"</b> Her voice was confident and showed none of her mental fatigue. She needed to be strong for Guiness. </blockquote>

His patient amber golden eyes watched his sister in keen nobility. He was so proud of her and always looked up to her. They were roughly the same size and he approved of Tem’s way of doing things. Perhaps one day they could find a pack and rule it as their own, together. How interesting would that be!? If the two ruled side by side as siblings. He had heard of the case before and it had interested him highly. He had been that most siblings would not get along very well, and it shocked him, probably because it and something to do with how his sister and his own relationship were. They were bonded, only needing a look to communicate to one another. It would sometimes seem as though they had practiced their looks that they would give each other, but in truth, it was pure instinct.

When his sister spoke, his head dipped in acceptance of her words before a small grin was planted onto his lips. He was not a hunter, more of a Guardian than anything, but if his sister wanted a hunt, then the two of them were to hunt. The only problem with the situation was that the both of them were large and that was hard to work with considering that speed was definitely not on their side. Due to that, they were cursed to the larger prey, the ones that were slow. . .but much harder to take down. They would surely need help with a hunt if she wanted to catch enough prey for the both of them, but surely, if that were to not happen, the faithful brother would automatically give up the food for his sister.

(Sorry for the unforgivable delay, but Tem is finally here! :P )

<blockquote>Tempest hardly even thought about whether or not Guiness agreed with her decision. The two of them worked like a well oiled machine together and rarely disagreed over anything. Although she did know that her bear of a brother would not hesitate to let her know if he had other thoughts... it was just beyond rare.

As she settled down for the evening, comfortable with their spot for the time being, her heart rejoiced. She just knew that Sloane was near and that they woud soon be reunited with their younger brother. For now, they merely had to worry about themselves. She looked forward to a morning hunt with Gui, but like him she knew it would be a challenge. Hopefully they would find some large injured prey to sate themselves tomorrow. If not, their size would surely work against them since neither had an iota of useful speed to count on. However, neither she nor her loyal brother would <span class='word'>quail</span> at the difuculty of the task. They would meet the challenge head on, just as they did everything together.

With this thought in her head, she gave her devoted brother a sleepy smile and lay her russett head down on her creamy paws. She took a deep breath in and let it out. With it, any tension that she'd had from their travels melted away and she was soon in a light, comfortable sleep, confident that Guiness would ever be by her side, looking out for her. </blockquote>
