turn around and take my hand

Following his encounter with Kerberos, Atlas ventured away from Bramble falls and into the forest standing along the riverbank. The sun shone brightly, creating dappled pools of gold and shadow on the ground where the sunshine was interrupted by the canopy of conifers. He moved at a moderate pace, somewhere between a walk and a jog, careful not to trip over the gnarled roots that protruded from the earth.

As he drew ever deeper into the forest, a sense of well-being washed over him. His daily life was riddled with anxiety, and he did not know exactly why. He suspected that it was due to the manner in which his father had treated himself and his siblings. It felt so strange to be able to wander wherever he wanted. To do whatever he wanted. There was no one to scold him, no one to hurt him or to tell him he was not good enough.

The ash-furred wolf tore himself away from his thoughts. They would return, but not now. Atlas leaped over a fallen tree, his hind foot catching upon on of the branches protruding from the dead tree. He was pitched forward, performing an involuntary half-somersault and landing upon his side. His auburn eyes were wide with shock. He was not hurt, and yet for  a moment, he could not move.

Leotie Rhys

Slowly Leotie had started to venture further away from the Draw as her injury healed a little more each day. There was still some pain in her foot which gave her an obvious limp but she was at least able to put some weight on her paw. She was thankful that through the ordeal she hadn't regained her fear of exploring. What she had learned was accidents happened and they had to he dealt with and moved on from. Despite still having the pain she still after her initial recovery period got up and went out to do her duties. It was slow going and sometimes frustrating she still finished them. It was the best way she could move on from what had happened and not found something to fear in it.

Her duties had gone a little quicker that particular morning which she was glad for so she decided to leave pack lands for a bit. Once outside them she felt like her old self again, it had been odd staying inside the borders when she used to go out everyday. Leotie chose a place that she knew well and felt safe in, Sacred Grove. She'd been there plenty of times and it wasn't too far from the Draw. For her it felt like a perfect place to get back out exploring again. If anything she just wanted to get out so that she didn't feel like she was losing the battle against her fears.

She moved along slowly with her limp being cautious of her footing and taking in the scenery. She wouldn't be doing any hunting unless it was fishing, she felt she could do that maybe, but this wasn't about that. The agouti woman wasn't sure how long she'd been limping along when she came across a fallen log something unexpected happened. A wolf larger than her fell over the fallen tree? Or his foot was caught or he didn't land properly as he jumped over. What happened after that had her worried he might be seriously hurt. When he didn't get up after his fall she hurried over to him as quickly as she could and once beside him she nudged his cheek with her nose. “Are you okay?” She asked before nudging him a little harder with her nose, “Please wake up.”

A feminine voice and a couple of fervent nudges brought him out of the shock. His mahogany eyes blinked a few times, then he moved his head so he could examine the speaker more closely. A pair of blue eyes hovered over him, pools that appeared to be full of genuine concern. Along with the pretty eyes came  a pretty face. Noticing this, Atlas forgot about his embarrassing fall and smiled up at her. He rolled over onto his belly and pushed himself to his feet.

I'm all right,  he said with a gentle snicker, pawing at her in a friendly manner. And why did you think I was sleeping, girl? My eyes were open. His soot-colored tail waved behind him. It was said in good nature; his smile and his wagging tail displayed that truth. I guess I wasn't watching where I was going. In spite of his size, Atlas was not a clumsy wolf, so it was quite unusual for him to take spills such as this. He was lucky he had not been hurt. What's your name? I'm Atlas. His tail continued to wag at his heels. Silently hoping that the girl had not actually witnessed his loss of balance and subsequent fall.

She had seen the fall of the large man and when he didn't get up immediately she became worried that he had really hurt himself. Not wanting him to end up in the same position she might have had Lyris not come along she went to his side. After giving him a few nudged with her nose on his cheek and talking to him he seemed to stir. The agouti woman was pleased that he was at least still alive. In fact he was smiling and rising to his feet so clearly he wasn't hurt which pleased Leotie.

He only confirmed that he was a moment later with a snicker and by pawing at her, she returned the gesture with a relieved smile and a few play nips to his ear. “Well I'm glad you're alright, you could have been sleeping with your eyes open,” she said with a raised brow, “But you weren't moving and I was worried you were hurt.” he then explained that he might not have been watching where he was going, “I guess not,” she agreed, “But the important thing is you're alright.” She offered a small smile when he asked her name and she learned his was Atlas. “I'm Leotie, it's nice to meet you Atlas what brings you to Sacred Grove this time of year?”

turn around and take my hand

She was such a sweet thing. Not just any individual would have remained long enough to make sure he was not gravely injured. Her doing so spoke volumes about the quality of her heart. She did not seem perturbed by his playful advances, she rather returned them by nipping at his ear, causing him to flinch with a false snarl.

Well, thanks for checking, he responded in his bass tones. Leotie, huh? Pretty, he complimented. Like you. It was clear that Atlas was not interested in hiding the fact that he found her attractive. Beautiful, even. She had the most beautiful pair of eyes he had ever seen, the bright turquoise contrasting against the earthen tones of her pelt.

The peppered wolf shrugged slightly before answering the question he had been asked. He chewed his lower lip thoughtfully. I don't know. I guess I've been looking for a pack. This winter has been difficult, being alone. It was hard to admit to the girl that he had not fared well as a loner this cold season. Having been bulky before the famine of winter, he did not appear particularly unhealthy. The only indication of his struggle was the slight roughness of his coat, and the red veins of his bloodshot eyes.

What about you?

Once she had seen that he was okay and not injured from his fall Leotie was relieved but had he been hurt she would have done what she could for him. It didn't matter that she had only just met him, he needed help and she was more than willing to do what she could. Once she had the chance to talk to him a little she decided that he was rather nice. His false snarl was met with a chuff and her tail waving lazily over her back.

“You’re welcome, it was my pleasure,” she responded when he thanked her. It really wasn't a problem at all, she wouldn't have felt right just leaving him in such a situation. She nodded when he repeated her name but when he complimented not only that but her as well a shy smile crossed her face, “Thank you,” she said quietly. It wasn't every day she was told she was pretty and she had to admit it was nice to hear. “I like your name too,” she admitted.

She'd met a few lone wolves during the time she'd spent in the wildwood and Sacred Grove and she was always curious what had brought them this way. It was a question she usually asked for herself and for the protection of the pack. “The winter has been harsh,” she agreed, “Joining a pack would certainly help you out. I might be able to help if you would like?” She offered. If he really wanted to join a pack Charred Ash Draw might be the place for him and she wouldn't mind keeping him around, he would fit right in.

As for her, “I was taking a walk,” she stated, “Recently I became injured so haven't been able get out much but it's feeling a little better so I thought a little exercise would be good. My pack isn't too far from here so I thought this would be a safe distance,” she explained.
