Gotcha. :3 Hunting Dem 1/3

Given little resistance by her companion, she would decide if it was worth bringing up again. It seemed highly unlikely unless she'd need the ammo.

Hert racing, she was eager to win this event. With her head start she immediately went to work.

Parted jaw, she breathed deep sifting through the scents of the woods. Most nothing of use. It was similar to that of her home, and for a second she couldn't help remember it. Her family. A slice of homesickness picked on her. It was with a forceful huff she bid it to go, and quickened her stride, picking up on several trails of her quarry. They seemed to like the protection of the woods so which one, did she follow?

She settled on the strongest, and trotted forward with exhilaration. Gold eyes drifted along snow, and sleeping brush trying to decipher where there home might be hidden. The further she followed the more paw prints marked the snow. A haughty smirk shaped her lips, and she paused to inhale the scent. She was close, but she did not see a suitable place for a warren.

This was a race, and she needed to be quick. Yet she slowed her pace not to miss their hide away. With a little patience she kept to the trail, suddenly struck by the powerful smell of not one but a group of fuzzy bunnies. Eyes kept searching, feeling she would soon spy their little hole.

Askan Selwyn
hunting post 1/3

Like Remington, Askan knew that the rabbits preferred to live within the safety of the trees, that they dug out their warrens between the roots of the firs. So that's where he headed first, rushing out of the open into to the tightly packed space of the forest, Askan slowed to a trot with his nose to the ground. He knew that they were about, in droves, he simply had to find them. And just his luck, the Selwyn knew exactly where they would be. There was no doubt in his mind, he would be the victor of this little game of theirs. Not because he was going to cheat, he truly did intend to play fair, he just had a little bit of an unfair advantage.

He'd seen a warren the other day and from the smell of it, it was stuffed to the brim with fuzzy little creatures just waiting to be snatched up. And once again it seemed as though fortune was on his side, from the looks of it-if he remembered correctly- they were nearby. He simply had to sniff them out. With a sly grin, Askan trounced along. By no means was he in a  rush, as he didn't need to, in his mind Remington had already lost, but at the same time he knew it wouldn't be wise to dawdle. Even if it was just because there was a tiny chance that his opponent might catch a lucky break.

The Rye wolf wasn't too worried though, because as stated before he knew their land better than she did. He couldn't remember the exact location, but that many rabbits in once place would surely create quite the stink. The sort that was impossible to miss. All he could remember was that there was a tangle of fallen branches and twigs on the floor nearby, and as far as he could see there was nothing like that where he was. He figured he would have to keep looking till he found that, or another point of interest he could remember.

And so,Askan continued to trail along, his nose to the ground when his nostrils were invaded with the thick, heavy scent he'd been searching for. And there it was. He was close, but not close enough to see or hear them yet. All in due time, he supposed. He couldn't see the marker yet, but he was certain it was nearby. It had to be ,and then he'd win this little game of theirs.

Hunting Dem 2/3

It wasn't a  hole she laid eyes on, but a large bank of snow between two thick, evergreens, and some leafless bracken. She worked her way between it, spying a tunnel. Victory!

Swiftly, white paws began digging away at the snow, throwing it behind her. Slowly, surely making it to the cold earth where a bundle of rabbits waited.

More and more assurance she continued whittling away their entrance, widening the space enough to fit in. Dirt now marring the white snow, and her muzzle. She was sure she'd hit the mother load, so many warm little bodies. Saliva pooled into her mouth, but she kept pushing aside the debris.

It wasn't until she was sure her head would fit and she had ample room did she poke her head inside, and began snapping at the flurry of feet, fluff, and ears. The smaller ones were the easiest, and as soon as one stopped fidgeting she reached for another, and another.

One rabbit, two rabbit, three rabbit, four. Silent, she counted, stretching to reach a more medium sized one. Its heal caught her right in the snout, and she snorted. Soon twisting for the one near by, thankfully she snagged a leg. This one she pulled out to finish off with a harsh jerk. Its life fluttered to an end, and she went back for more. Askan hadn't howled yet, and she was sure she had a bit more time.

Hunting 2/3

Pacing along, Askan soon found the warren he was looking for. Now wasn't that easy? Too easy in fact, he almost felt bad for Remington, that he should have warned her that he had the unfair advantage. He wasn't all bad though was he? He'd let her go first, that said something. He wasn't completely mean. But still, she was going to lose and the quicker he finished up here the sooner Remington would learn the hard truth.

With a grin, Askan sunk down to a crawl and poked his head into the warren, his ears poised to pick up the patter of tiny feet. It was faint, but he could have sworn he heard something, a muffled scratching sound, like something was squirming about. Pulling back, Askan shook himself off and glanced about, his gaze narrowing in on the telltale signs of the den's inhabitants. Small paw prints in the snow leading in all sorts of directions.

He had this, for sure.

Ducking down again, Askan began to scrape at the dirt, trying to widen the entryway so he could get a proper look and see how many rabbits he had lying in store. He pawed and scrapped, making a whole lot of noise but no rabbits where flushed out. They didn't flee in blind panic into his waiting jaws, it was actually a little too quiet. Like he was missing something. Determined to win, Askan ignored the-in hindsight blatantly obvious- warning signs and continued to dig.

Until it was too late.

Hidden in the mouth of the tunnel, clearly annoyed by the ruckus, crouched a stoat, hissing with its teeth bared. That was... Askan recoiled back before the thing had a chance to bite his nose. Shit. This was not going well, at all. Scrambling back out, Askan's eyes darted this way and that as he desperately tried to think of where else he could go, what other options did he have? No no no! He couldn't loose! Not now!

Hunting dem 3/3

There seemed to be less rabbits to reach now. They were more jittery, and darting back and forth so fast. No matter how far she stretched, or wiggled for a better way they seemed to realize to stay away from the wolf.

Damn it. She couldn't blame them, but she'd wanted to try to keep an even number. Askan probably had more than a half-dozen. She didn't exactly want him rubbing he face in it. She could try to keep pride. If she lost she somehow felt it would make her a little worthless. Deciding a different plan, she pulled herself back into the light, and trotted around the warren. here was probably another tunnel, an escape hatch. Sure enough, she she spied one hoping for escape. No you don't. She leaped, easily clamping down, and shaking it till there was no more protest. She released it with a huff, feeling quite hot from her work. It would be easier to lose, for at least she had plenty to return to their caches. As her gold eyes looked through the fingers of the trees she took note of the sun, and the shadows on the ground. Had she done enough? Time to find out.

Lifting her muzzle to the sky, she formed her lips and let out a steady howl to the dark hunter. Times up.

Hunting demonstration 3/3

Oh shit oh shit oh shit!

Askan galloped through the woods, his gaze darting this way and that as he desperately searched for a sign, for anything to suggest that there were rabbits nearby. It was a lost cause, in his heart of hearts he knew that, it was too late and so resistance was futile. But it wasn't in his nature to just give up and call it quits. He couldn't allow Remington to have the satisfaction of winning. Oh he could see it now,  she'd have an infuriatingly smug look on her face, like she knew she'd win all along. And to think he had given her a head start. Stupid, so very fucking stupid.

All wasn't lost though was it? For all he knew she hadn't found anything either, she could be running around like a headless chicken just like him. Maybe they had both gotten unlucky.

It seemed as though the universe felt a little bad for him, as just as he turned the corner a rabbit dashed out in front of him. Without a hesitation- Askan wasn't going to let this chance go to waste- he snapped up the rabbit and clenched down till he heard a fatal crunch. There, at least he'd caught one. It was better than none, right? And if he was lucky it'd be one more than she had. Better yet there might be more around, this one was so small so surely there were- that's when a howl rang out and broke his line of thought.

Oh great.

Really? Had she already- ugh. Askan shook his head and with a scoff he dropped the rabbit to the ground with a thud. Stupid fucking game. Stupid fucking rabbits. UGH! Tilting his head high, he let out a call, curt and short , as though to say 'fine! I'm coming.' They had agreed to meet in the field so that's where he began to head, once he'd picked up his measly prize. With every footstep he got closer and closer and the sense of dread that pooled inside of him began to rise and rise. Would it be cowardly if he didn't show up at all? Would she assume that he had gotten lost, or hurt? Would that mean she would win by default? Probably.
