It had worked. Her charm and acting had actually worked! She didn’t bother to contain the grin that split her maw; what wolf wouldn’t be pleased to be accepted into a pack? She wagged her tail and let out a whine of gratitude, licking the underside of Aideen’s maw in deference to her authority.
It made Kaela sick.
But she was playing the long game now, and she could force herself to stomach this new role she’d put herself into. She could take care of all that needed to be done. She was angry. That anger might fade, but she’d set herself down a path to correct the wrongs, and she would do everything necessary.
Yes, even kowtow and submit to the likes of these wolves. If things continued as they began, this would be easy. It might even be fun.
There was no dissent from the woman’s mate, bringing a savage joy to the dark girl. She had thought he might cause trouble, what with the aloof attitude he’d held throughout the conversation, but he might prove to be less of a battle than she thought. If he always listened to his partner like this, if all she needed to do to tame him was hold Aideen’s strings…
She would have to test this.
But for now, she had to lie low. They would figure out the encounter she had was in reality one with their daughter as soon as the fiery girl laid eyes on her. That would be where the true test would lie.
