Hawthorne Selwyn
all welcomed! || Morning, Patchy rain possible, 67 ° F, 19 ° C

Today something new and shocking had happened. When she had awoken there was something falling from the sky. The big round orb that gave her that blinding feeling any time looked at it was hidden away. In its place were gray balls of fluff that seemed to hang low. She was skeptical of the new setting at first and opted to sit in the den and watch from there. Of course, that could only remain exciting for so long. Eventually, she wanted to know more.

Hesitantly she toddled out into the new looking world. Whatever was falling from above was hitting her but it didn't hurt. It was a strange situation but she felt that she wasn't in danger. If her mother hadn't yanked her back in (at least not yet) then it couldn't be a completely bad thing. She looked up towards the gray sky and as she did so one of the drops fell down between her eyes. Stunned, she stumbled backward before landing on her rump. The young Riverflow went cross-eyed as she tried to see what it had just done. But nothing was there anymore. The droplet that had once been was suddenly gone.

Hawthorne noticed how her fur felt a bit different now. Perhaps heavier? Just like she would do to rip herself of debris she shook out her coat. Suddenly the drops returned! She had made them this time. An excited yip erupted from her as she did a small prance. "Oooo!" The girl cooed out softly. She could make droplets too!

Nauja Mizuno

Only a few hours had passed since her return from her travels, she hadn't even had time to speak with Emrys before she found the communal den. There she'd collapsed finally feeling safe enough to rest which she did for a few hours. Nauja had only been gone a few days but she had grown unaccustomed to being on her own for more than a day or two. She also hadn't rested much during this last trip she'd taken. The sea wolf had decided once she returned this time it would be a few days before she headed out once more.

When she woke up finally it was morning and time to get something to eat. Since she hadn't done much eating either opting to focus on her mission more. However as she started to step out of the communal den she saw that it was raining. She paused at the mouth of the den not sire of she wanted to go out and get wet or of her hunger didn't care that it was raining and she would get wet. In the end her hunger won out forcing her to step out into the rain as she made her way to a nearby cache.

She was almost there when she passed by a small clearing outside of the den which belonged to Sylva. Nauja didn't know the woman or much of her story but she knew enough. Was was curious was the pup, Hawthorne she believed she was called, outside the den shaking out her coat and seeming rather fascinated by the rain falling on it. Well she couldn't let the youngster be out in the rain alone so she made her way over to the pup, “Hello there little one, where's your mother?” She asked before sitting back on her haunches.

Hawthorne Selwyn
In her prancing, she caught sight of a dark wolf. This was not her kind pale playmate which made her instantly think it was her mother. "Maaaam!" She called out as she halted her prancing, a bit dizzy. It was then once she regained her balance did she notice this was a stranger and was not the wolf she had thought it had been. A frown tugged on the gray and black girl's face. Denim blue eyes staring up at the stranger. She was larger and beefier than her mom. Hawthorne didn't hide the huff that left her mouth as she moved closer to the stranger.

The Riverflow's damp nose sniffed at the paws of her company. While Hawthorne was slowly becoming better at understanding words she still found trouble on how to reply or what exactly each one meant. Simple commands were easier to understand than long sentences or questions. Which left the child a bit unsure of what to say to the dark stranger. Perhaps if her pale friend had been around he would have been able to help her just like he had helped roll her right side up.

"Ooo?" She plopped down in front of the female and mimicked her sitting position. Denim blue eyes looking up at the shadowy face. The droplets from the sky no longer had her interest.

Her only experience with pups had been with those back on Bella Coola and even then she'd tried to stay away. That however had not been her first instinct when she saw the little pup playing in the rain. She'd been worried that Hawthorne had been left to herself and could get into serious trouble. Nsika was of the belief that pups didn't know what was best for them so should have constant supervision. Which was why she had gone to check on the pups instead of letting her go on playing by herself. She thought with a smile that soon enough the young pup would have Jynx and Emrys’ puppies to play with.

It seemed that she had been noticed as the young Riverflow called out to her. The sea wolf wasn't exactly sure what word had come from the little girl but she gave her a smile anyway. When she'd gotten close enough the tiny dark fluff had come right up to her and started sniffing her paws. Nauja observed her curiously for a few moments until another word came out of her time maw as she sat down just as the sea wolf was doing. “Your mother,” she repeated evenly for Hawthorne hoping she would understand her better.

It seemed the rain was all but forgotten but the tiny pup but it wasn't for Nauja or perhaps it was the puppy was just still too young to have her attention split like the adults could, “You should be more careful out here,” she stated worriedly. She didn't want to see anything bad happen to the little girl.

"Your mother,"

Mom? Hawthorne knew who mom was and this wolf was certainly not mom. "No mom." The child shook her head as she failed to understand what the larger female was really asking. This creature certainly wasn't mom and it wasn't even her former playmate. Where was he anyway? He should be here playing in the rain with her! Seeing all those droplets coming from the sky and seeing how she could make more droplets just like the sky. Did that make her the sky? Hawthorne didn't think so. She was Hawthorne, mama's pup. Certainly no sky. Nor was she even as large as the sky! The sky was even larger than any friend she had met yet.

Denim blue eyes looked back up at the dark female as she spoke again. Careful. That was a word she had heard before but she didn't fully understand it. The tone the stranger spoke in wasn't nearly as ecstatic, bubbly, or kind as Hawth's playmate or mother. There was something about it that made her feel like she should listen even if he didn't want to.

A soft frown tugged on her features as she nudged the woman's leg with her head. "We go?" She asked as she got back to her paws and her rump shook behind her. The frown was forgotten as a new idea came to the child's mind. What if this one could let her see more than just outside of the den?

Nauja Mizuno

The sea wolf wasn't sure it was safe for the little pup to be out in the rain with her mother so she'd stayed. That was part of her job after all, looking after the pups when their parents weren't around and Sylva certainly didn't seem to be. Nauja had looked all over the area for the mother and hadn't seen her. She'd even asked little Hawthorne where her mother was but it was clear that something had gotten missed in the communication of the question. No matter she took what the pup had said and went with it. “I'll stay with you then, keep you company. Will you like that?” It was the least she could do especially in the rain, she didn't want the puppy to stray too far and not be able to get back to her den.

However, Nauja was very clear in that Hawthorne needed to be careful while she was outside the den. As she looked down into the blue eyes of the pup she felt as though she really was listening to what the sea wolf had told her. This pleased Nauja and she hoped that Hawthorne would heed her words. “I want you to be safe,” she told the little one with a smile.

She was a little surprised by the nudge her leg received and when she perked her ears in the direction of the pup a question was asked. Nauja’s brow furrowed as she looked around once more for Sylva but didn't see her. Her attention back on Hawthorne she nodded, “Okay, where would you like to go? I'll come along.” She wondered if the the dark coated pup had an idea or if she just wanted to get further from her den, wherever she wanted to go the sea wolf would be right there with her.

The smile on the stranger's face with met with Hawthorne's own wide grin. She noted how the tone didn't seem to be so serious anymore and it pleased the young child. The only thing she wanted to be serious about was food and sleep. Everything else needed to be taken with adventurous and exciting motives. There were so many things she was still learning, so many games she wanted to play! Hawthorne wanted wolves who could help her with those things.

"Go, go, go!" She chanted as she bounced about in a small circle releasing a series of yips. This stranger was gonna take her somewhere! But where? Hawthorne hadn't thought that far ahead. This was an adventure! Oh..but she hoped mom wouldn't be upset. "Maaa!" She chipped out into the open "We go!" Her tail wagged behind her. Certainly, her mother couldn't scold her if she told her!

Hawthorne took the lead as she bounded along with her tail happily wagging behind her. While she had no idea where they would or could go she fully expected her company to follow after. The droplets kept falling from the sky and collecting onto her fur but that wasn't enough to deter her or even have her attention anymore.

Nauja Mizuno

It was clear that her serious tone had made Hawthorne sad, she didn't like that as necessary as it might be. Nauja felt that puppies should be happy all of the time, they were at the beginning of life before all the hardships and tragedies could affect them. Though she was sure the dark ball of fur in front of her had no idea how important it was for her to enjoy this time Nauja thought it just as important. Soon enough her life would fill with responsibilities and work, the time of a puppy was filled with fun and adventure.

So when little Hawthorne expressed in her not so articulate way that she wanted to go and explore Nauja was happy to take her. She laughed at the pups chant, her enthusiasm getting the better of the Sea wolf, “We’re going, wherever you want to go.” She left it up to the pup to decide instead of making her go where she might not want to, where did pups like to go anyway? She was enjoying her time with Hawthorne that she'd forgotten all about the rain. Before they were too far from the den the like furballs voice rang through the clearing telling her mother they were going, “Now she won't be worried when she can't find you,” said the seagull with a chuckle as she followed behind Hawthorne.

Nauja didn’t have any idea where they were going but she felt the pup would know where she was going once she found the place. The sea wolf wasn't worried about where they would end up, she would be there to make sure Hawthorne stayed safe.

The little child kept bounding along the best she could. A few trips here and there were to be expected but those didn't slow her down too much. She was used to bumping her chin or chest into the earth. Something about the droplets above made the ground easier to fall onto but also much easier to fall in the first place. She also felt rather dirty but she knew that her mother could easily clean her up!

Denim blue eyes looked around. The world didn't look very bright and vibrant today but that was okay. Surely there would still be places to explore. In her own muffled puppy thoughts, she ran into something. There was a splash underneath her and she was suddenly much wetter and dirty than she was only moments ago. She didn't know what this dirty body of water was but it was new. After her moment of staring down at it, she began to prance about through it. Splashing herself and the surrounding ground.

A truly wet and muddy mess she became as she turned around to look at her company. Hawthorne simply smiled wide and let her tail flick droplets behind her as it wagged as if to say "Look what I found!"

As Hawthorne bounded ahead of her Nauja kept up a pace that would allow her to keep sight of the pup. The last thing she wanted to do was lose the girl and have to tell her mother or Emrys that she had. It wouldn't go over well and she was thankful that the rain wasn't falling too heavily. Each time the pup fell she hurried forward to make sure she was okay, fussing over her as if she was her own child. She would then once sure Hawthorne was okay allow her to continue on her trek.

The sea wolf had thought that the rain would dampen the child's mood but it didn't seem to in the slightest. As she trotted along behind the bounding puppy Nauja wondered if there was a particular place they were going or if they were just going to wherever they ended up. Either way she didn't care and Hawthorne seemed to be having fun. At least that was until the sound of a splash reached the sea wolf's ears. She'd lost sight of the child momentarily so jogged the few feet to find the child in the middle of a mud puddle prancing around. For a moment the sea wolf was at a loss as to what to do before she realized that this was bad. “Your mother is going to kill me,” she said her tone becoming a little high pitched, “Hawthorne come out of there before you catch a cold.” Of course it didn't really matter as she and she was sure the pup were soaked through from the rain.

Of course the little pup turned around as if nothing was wrong seemingly proud of her discovery. This would never do, she needed to get Hawthorne out of the mud puddle before they were both caught. Nauja liked water but she didn't like dirty water so she carefully place one paw and then another into the mud puddle.
