Oksana Baranski

She'd had a wonderful morning with her mother. Oksana had fully expected Inna to disappear into the forest like she did most mornings only to return at nap time. That didn't happen, instead they had gone one a walk through the forest and then she'd gotten to pounce on some bugs until her mother had found a nice fat creature that Inna had informed her was a mouse. The ebony child had tried to catch it but it had been much too fast for her. As always her mother assured her she would one day be fast enough and like always she believed it because Inna wouldn't like to her. They had returned to the den at naptime and Oksana had quickly fallen asleep. The voice that caused her tiny black ear to flick sounded familiar but the pup believed it to be in her dream. It didn't stop when she opened her eyes and realized her mother was gone.

When it hit her that the voice wasn't in her dream that it had to be Lorc she had to go. She knew that would be where her mother would be, she had to be there. Oksana couldn't get out if the den fast enough she wanted to see Lorc so badly. She'd missed him and she knew that his return would make her mother happy again, she wanted to see Inna happy again. Her legs had gotten a bit longer and she could move through the forest a little better but she still stumbled. That didn't stop her as she would quickly get back to her feet and run in the direction she thought his howl had come from. With what had to be luck Oksana finally found them, she could see her mom and Laike, even Lach through the trees. She slowed her pace and as she came closer on her mother's side she could see him. He looked different but she knew it was him and a smile crossed her face. Without thinking the young Baranski tore through the underbrush not caring about anything besides getting to Lorc and letting him know how happy she was to see him. “Lorc home,” she squealed as she came up behind her mother.

Inna Baranski
Guardian Dem 3/3

Seeing him a again only served to remind her that what she had felt for him before had not gone away in his absence. More than anything she wished she could be as Laike was being and not so cold toward him. It wasn't to be, too many had left and Alek had hurt her with his promises to stay upon his last return. Even though she knew Lorcan wasn't like her brother and had promised he wouldn't do what Alek had she didn't know if she could separate it. Inna hoped that hearing what had happened would help, that it would make it so much easier to believe what she already knew to be true. She also knew that it all depended on the reason he had not been in Hearthwood for the last month.

She remained quiet her orange gaze falling on her alpha and the father of her child watching as they exchanged words. Silently she hoped that Lachesis would find it a sufficient explanation and allow Lorcan to come back to them. She knew that if the tawny healer was allowed to return then it wouldn't matter what happened there at the border. He would have his chance to make things up and to show that he meant everything he said. Whatever happened Inna knew she had to give Lorcan the chance for their daughter because the last thing she wanted was for Oksana to grow up without him. That desire wouldn't stop her from keeping her daughter from Lorcan if she believed he might hurt her by disappearing again. So she listened to every detail that slipped from his mouth and trying to process it all right then.

A sound caught her ear as Lorcan finished his story about what had happened with the flood and getting back. She still remained cautious as unfair as it might be to Lorcan it wasn't just her she had to worry about now. The sounds had become louder causing Inna to turn her head and through the trees she saw the black fur that belonged to her daughter. Then as the girl came up behind her squealing Lorcans name Inna stepped in her path setting her with a look that told her clearly to stop, “No, you stay right there,” she told her daughter before sending an apologetic look toward Lachesis.

Laike Artemieva

LAIKE ARTEMIEVA

Lachesis was the one to ask what was likely on everyone's mind which didn't exactly come as a surprise. His attention drifted from the pale leader to his tawny brother who seemed quick to offer an answer. It seemed honest and truthful. Something so sweet and kind went wrong. It was a situation Laike could believe happening to his brother. Of course, that didn't excuse the damage that had been done with his unspoken absence but it at least gave them something to work with. Laike wasn't a man of excuses and emotional reunites (although, his visits with @Adelayde seemed to be more on the emotional spectrum) but he could feel relief that his brother hadn't died or been injured worse than likely a few bumps and lack of good meals.

The voice of Oksana caught him off guard and as he turned his head to see the ebony girl come running out Inna blocked her path. His fiery eyes looked to the mother before returning his gaze to Inna's daughter. "He is." He rumbled softly to just her and carefully moved to give her a kind nudge. "Before we can...celebrate," Seemed like an appropriate word to use. "he must talk to Lachesis." The girl was fairly smart and understanding besides being so young. Perhaps that would help her to relax and obey her mother's words more.

Laike reclaimed his spot by Inna's hip, fiery gaze locked onto his brother with a more tender look than in the past.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

With his ears pinned forward Lachesis listened patiently to Lorcán’s response, his brows narrowed softly as he drank in each word that tumbled off the healer’s tongue. His chartreuse gaze only wavered when the little raven arrived, her shrill voice pulling XIX away. A soft smile tugged at his lips as he met Inna’s apologetic gaze and dismissed it with a soft flick of his tail. Now that the puppies were becoming more mobile Lachesis was surprised that Oksana was the only cub to arrive on the scene. He was sure little Risaela or Lilliana would have greeted the tawny healer, as well, for their paws never seemed to stop wandering.

I sought higher ground in the mountains …

Lachesis nodded gently as he returned his focus to the agouti, offering his friend a sympathetic frown. The summer rain had been relentless over the past month—it did not surprise him that Lorcán had been caught by a flash flood. His expression grew grim as the healer continued, announcing that he had been trapped by the high water levels until today. “I’m just glad it was not something worse that kept you away,” he admitted with a soft sigh, his head falling slightly to the side as he studied the healer’s unkempt appearance. The only scents that clung to his pelt belonged to the mountain and the lowlands; there was no sign that he had been with another pack, or wolf. “There is still a place for you here,” he added after a brief pause, his forehead smoothing out as he spoke, “if that is what you came back for.” Or had Lorcán enjoyed his time as a loner? His appearance said otherwise, but that did not mean his mind did not prefer the freedom that came with being a lone wolf…

Lorcán Artemieva
It was all down to Lachesis now. The agouti healer had given his reasons for his month long absence and now all he could do was hope that the pale leader could find it in his heart to forgive him. Golden eyes returned to gaze expectantly into the bright chartreuse eyes of his superior as he shuffled on his paws uneasily, waiting with baited breath for the response.

The forest seemed to grow silent in those few second which passed where @Lachesis said nothing. Then a sudden shrill cut through the silence and stole everyone’s attention. His head swung round and his russet ears pricked up in recognition of his name before his eyes quickly located the dark pup at her mother’s feet. He couldn’t hold back the smile that pulled at his charcoal lips as he gazed across to his daughter, his golden eyes bright with pride as he realised how much she had grown in his absence. For a moment his tail thumped excitedly against the ground but then as he watched @Inna and @Laike settle her, he remembered that he was not permitted to see her until he heard a response from their leader.

Tail falling still, the smile dropped from his face and was replaced with a more neutral expression as he returned his full attention back to Lachesis. A frown darkened his gaze as he noticed the leader’s concern and in that moment, Lorcan couldn’t have felt guiltier, regardless of the fact that he had been helpless to return a day sooner – but then Lachesis made him an offer and guilt was swiftly replaced with an overwhelming feeling of relief. “More than anything, Sir.” He replied, his tail thumping the ground once more as the smile returned to his charcoal lips.

Oksana Baranski

Now that Lorc was back Oksana was sure that everything would go back to normal. Her mum would be happy again and he would be outside the den like he always was before he had gone away. Her short tail waved furiously behind her she was so happy to see him. She tried to rush toward him so that she could show him how much she missed him. The tiny pup wanted to tell him that she didn't want him to ever leave again and that her mum had been sad when he was gone. As she came up beside her mother she was stopped and told to stay where she was.

Oksana didn't understand why Inna didn't want her to go to Lorc. She could see the smile on his face from around her mother's legs and she knew he was happy to see her too. After her mother told her to stay Laike explained to her why she couldn't go to Lorc. She looked from Laike to her uncle Lach and she didn't like the look that was on his face when he spoke with her friend. A whimper sounded from her before she asked, “Lorc okay?” Uncle Lach had made her feel better when she had gotten muddy, maybe Lorc needed help to feel better too.

Inna Baranski
Guardian Dem 4/3

After Lorcan had his chance to explain where he'd been and what had kept him from returning for a month In a was almost certain Lachesis would let him back in. She knew the pale healer and the kind heart that he held within his chest. It also helped that Lorcan had never given any of them reason to doubt him and his loyalty to them. Most of all Inna knew in her heart that he wanted to be with his daughter.

Speaking of which the black cub had come barreling out of the forest behind her squealing about Lorcan. The Baranski put a stop to that as quickly as it had started telling her to stay put. She was young but that didn't mean she couldn't start learning her manners when it came to the border. That however wasn't the only reason, it was too soon for father and daughter to be reunited. While she was almost certain she would allow Lorcan back into Oksana's life as she had no reason not to she wanted to talk to him first. She wanted to make sure he understood where she stood on matters.

She was thankful that Lachesis hadn't been upset by her daughter's interruption and like had been so kind in explaining things. “Thank you,” she told the Artemieva man at her side quietly and bumped his cheek with her nose for emphasis. He truly had been so helpful during Lorcans absence as had Ayti and she appreciated the efforts of both men especially when it came to her daughter. Oksana's tiny voice sound led from the ground at her paws, was Lorcan okay? She bent her head to meet her daughter's gaze and spoke quietly, “He's just a little worse for wear but he is okay. Uncle Lach just wants to make sure that letting him come home is the right decision.” She knew her daughter wouldn't understand all of the words she'd used but she would one day. Inna placed a kiss on her daughter's crown as she turned back to the group just in time for Lorcan to tell Lachesis that he wanted to return to Hearthwood. Inna allowed a small smile to cross her features at those words.

Laike Artemieva

LAIKE ARTEMIEVA

He nodded softly at Inna's thanks. It was really not an issue for him. He had helped during Lorcan's absence the best he could and he was doing a few little last things before going back to being unneeded.

Laike's head turned from Oksana to look at Lachesis and Lorcan. A very faint and likely unnoticeable smile tugged on his features at the exchange of words. The large Artemieva felt he was no longer needed here as things seemed to be sorted out or almost there. He offered a polite nod to everyone there but stopped to let his gaze linger on Lorcan. His brother would look better with time and care.

With a silent goodbye, he pulled back from the group and began to wander off into Hearthwood territory. If things were going to finish as they seemed to be going than Laike had no doubt he would have time to speak with his younger brother later on. The stocky male wanted his brother to have time to cope and regroup before being hounded for chatter and conversation.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

There was no doubt in his mind that allowing Lorcán to return to Hearthwood was the right decision. The tawny healer had worked hard to make a name for himself amongst the river wolves and prove his worth. He did not have to return—he could have either rejoined the monadnock or sought a home elsewhere, but he did not. He came back as soon as he was able, determined to rectify his absence. There was no reason for the Stark to turn him away when he had not done anything wrong.

More than anything. His lips pulled back into a soft smile at the healer’s words. Without saying anything the ghost gave a soft nod, his tail swaying gently behind him. Even if he did not want Lorcán to return to his position as Hearthwood’s healer XIX could not have said no while Oksana was present. She was utterly infatuated with the agouti, for he was a frequent presence around Inna’s den, tending to the two Baranski’s when Aytigin was fulfilling his other duties. Lachesis was pleased that the males of Hearthwood had rallied together to ensure that the mothers and their children were being taken care of. They could not afford to lose another wolf—not with five hungry mouths to feed. Splashing Otter had already disappeared, but with Lorcán’s return, perhaps the white-cheeked wolf would reappear as well.

“Welcome home.” With a final glance at the tawny healer Lachesis dipped his nose before turning to leave. He wanted to give Lorcán some time with the little raven that adored him so much. Like Laike, he would pester the Artemieva later, when he was not surrounded by others. Lachesis exit | Fade

Inna Baranski
Guardian Dem 5/3

There were many things the Raven had to say to the tawny healer but all of that could wait. It had to because the things she had to say to him were not meant for the others ears. They concerned their daughter and what Lorcan's absence had done to her. Inna had been upset with his disappearance, had even conveyed it to Oksana but as always it was never her feelings that she was concerned about.

She would get her chance to say all she had to later once Lorcan had settled back into the pack and gotten himself a good meal. Oksana had obeyed her command as much as Inna knew she wanted to give her father the welcome he deserved. It was not time yet for the tiny Baranski to greet her father but she would get her chance. Laike was the first to leave the border but not without a silent goodbye. Inna would not forget how he had helped her during Lorcan’s absence.

Inna remained despite knowing how things would turn out because it was always what she'd done unless otherwise instructed. A smile did creep across her dark features when Lachesis gave the Tawny Healer the confirmation that he was welcome back. Then the pale leader took his leave leaving Inna and Oksana with Lorcan. “Welcome home Lorcan,” she said her tone gentler than it had been, “I am glad you've made it back.” She looked down at Oksana before back up to Lorcan, “I hope you can understand that I can't let you back into her life yet, I'm sorry. We will talk and then you can see her.” That said Inna gave a nod before turning to Oksana and giving her a nudge, “Come, you can see Lorcan later. He needs to get something to eat and rest,” she told her daughter before moving into the trees with Oksana at her heel. With a last look back at him she disappeared into the forest.
