He couldn't help but smile at the pride Hawthorne had in her stick and he couldn't help but encourage it. Since she was still too young to go out hunting or patrolling she needed to have praise and know she did a good job in other areas. Knowing she'd done will in picking out s food stick could help her in the future because the care she used there could be used in hunting and picking out her prey. He'd had a good mother who’d done such things with him and now he could pass that to his children and Hawthorne.
He had told her that they were coming up to some food trees and not surprisingly she had run ahead to go and look for a prize for him. He felt rather honored that she would want to get him a prize too. While chewing on sticks wasn't something he could regularly be found doing he would not turn down a offer and gift such as that from her, she would be so crestfallen if he didn't he didn't want to do that to her. So he followed behind her and in no time he'd caught up.
The problem was he'd lost sight of her so didn't know where she had disappeared off to. Emrys searched here and there until he finally gave up when he didn't find her. “Hawthorne where have you disappeared to now. I know you're here, I can smell you.” And he could, her scent was strong so he followed it to the place where she'd disappeared into the foliage, “You're in there aren't you?”
