Hawthorne Riverflow

She tossed and turned in the darkness of the den. The animals outside simply wouldn't be silent! She groaned as she dragged herself from her mother's side. Usually, the girl would have been filled with a certain glee to be sneaking out of the den. Such a rebellious act. Yet tonight it was done out of annoyance.

Hawthorne let out a heavy huff before a "Shhhh!" followed after. It seemed to be pointless, though. In a more than dramatic way, the young girl threw herself to the ground. Orange eyes squeezed shut tightly hoping that somehow that would put her to sleep. Of course, why would that work? Her brows furrowed as the creatures continued their unfamiliar noises. What were they doing? And why on earth did they have to be so obnoxious about whatever they were doing?

Maybe she just needed a walk. Surely that would exhaust her enough to sleep despite the sounds. Slowly pulling herself up from the ground the young girl set off towards the borders. Hopefully putting distance between her and the noises. Just a small walk, she wouldn't go too far because she knew how much mama disliked it when she wandered at night. Even Emrys and Jynx seemed less than fond of her wandering at night. At least she had a reason to this time.

The calls of the animals that filled the forest was what brought her out of the communal den that night. How the others could sleep through all the racket caused by them the Seawolf just didn't know. It could be she hadn't been sleeping well lately as thoughts of Ishtar had been at the forefront if her mind lately. Her friend had disappeared from the notch awhile ago and Nauja had hoped she would have turned up. Enough time had passed that she felt she had no choice but to count the dark pelted woman as another loss in her life.

She had gotten Tyne back and that was something she couldn't be happier about. She thought he was recovering well and he was staying in the notch. He was a loyal wolf and she had known him a very long time, he was a part of Bella Coola and all that she had loved. Nauja was glad that things had turned out the way they had for him and that he had allowed her to drag him home.

After leaving the den Nauja had gone out for a walk hoping it would help her to get some sleep when she finally returned to the den. What she wasn't expecting was to run into the small, dark figure that was Hawthorne. What was the pup doing out of bed at such a late hour. “Hawthorne, what are you doing out here?” She asked as she came upon the girl. Surely her mother would be worried but she thought to find it why the girl was out and about before forcing her back to her den.

Hawthorne Riverflow

She thought she'd be alone mentioning the late hour it was. Hawthorne was tempted to ignore the familiar voice and just keep trudging along but she knew that would only bring forth a scolding most likely. So a heavy sigh left her lips and she turned her head over her shoulder. The Riverflow child knew who it was by the voice before she saw the inky hunter.

"I'm jus' walking. Animals were too noisy." Her shoulders rolled in a soft shrug. She wasn't a baby anymore. The girl had certainly grown some and felt like she could take a little walk unsupervised. Maybe she wouldn't have felt as tense about it if it had been Arwyn or Elyan. Granted she doubted they could sneak away from their parents at this hour. It was partially a wonder she had even pulled it off.

Her orange gaze settled on the female's face. "What're you doing out here?" A dark brow raised. Wasn't it late for the adults too? Not to mention she thought they all got up early and had so much work to do. Why would Nauja wanna miss out on sleep especially with the job she had? Hunting was so...difficult. Not to mention she was pretty sure the Nauja did some scouting too which was something Hawthorne didn't know much about but if the adults were doing it it must be hard work.

The last wolf she expected to see out late at night was little Hawthorne but there the pup was. Had it been anyone else but one of the pups she might have turned and went the other way since she wasn't really in the mood for conversation. However, being that the pup was still so young she felt it was important she at least check in her and make sure she was okay. Nauja had no desire to get Hawthorne in trouble for being out so late.

The answer that she hot from the child when she finally did catch up to her and Hawthorne answered maybe should have been expected. It was after all the same reason she was out in the forest walking around instead of getting some rest. “They have been rather loud tonight haven't they,” she agreed with a snort. Nauja idly wondered how Tyne was fairing, if he was able to sleep through it all or was he awake just like her and Hawthorne. She thought she might check on him once she made sure the young Riverflow was okay. “They also don't seem to be quieting down anytime soon,” she added looking up into the trees around them.

It was an expected question Hawthorne being a pup and curious, “Same as you. I don't usually have trouble but I've had a lot in my mind lately so I think that only made easier for them to keep me awake,” she explained. Nauja was hoping that a walk in the night air might help to clear her mind a little. She wasn't sure that it was that simple when her problems we're so complex.
